Marcelo is half his size and competed non-stop, threatening the whole time. Against ome of the best of all time. That says a lot about how good Marcello was.
i dunno...this looked a lot like roger putting on a clinic. the final score had to be completely lopsided. marcelo didn't even get back points on that final sweep.
@@mikepreminger Roger lost position (including side control) several times against a guy much lighter and you say a clinic? You probably never fought someone heavier than you and tried a sweep, everything is more difficult due to size and weight
Marcelo is Absolute Legend of BJJ GOATs. No one has ever competed and been consisted in GI/No GI as him. He fought his weight and absolute all the time.
@16thChemical I remember that, also Marcelo took Roger's back for a moment, if I remember that match right. Nobody does that. Both Marcelo & Roger imo are the Greatest of my time.
9:15 why does the referee award 2 pts for Garcia? He is not in guard anymore, so it should be not considered as a sweep, am I wrong? Maybe rules were different in 2004?
I truly believe that if Marcelo would’ve been his height, he would’ve been the Gordon Ryan of his era. At the highest ranks, length and weight play a HUGE factor in BJJ. Marcelo still kept up and submitted many even at his height, but he would’ve been so dangerous at Roger’s height.
This fight really raises that question, right? Is it size, or is Roger's technique better? If Marcelo was longer, or if Roger were shorter, would the BJJ world be the same? Buchecha was 7kg heavier than Roger when they fought...again, was it Roger's height or his superior technique? I think it will be interesting to see some matches between these guys when they're older
@CaptHandsome42 oh it's Roger Gracie's skill set. Of course Roger being tall and the weight difference is a factor, but look at Ricco Rodriguez vs Marcelo.. Ricco weighs more than Roger and Marcelo was all over him and beat him with a heel hook I believe. Even after Ricco did that back slam on Marcelo. Roger beat everyone of his Era. Marcelo was up there too though. Respect to both Jiu-jitsu Masters. The best of their time.
@@rnkmode1876 The skill gap was way to huge between Ricco and Marcelo though. Weight and height won't matter much when the skill gap is so huge. When the skill gap is closer height and weight matter a lot more. Roger is the GOAT though, no doubt. Gordon Ryan I believe is the GOAT of no gi though.
How does the pant leg coming up make a difference in fight ref...how about the belt still wrapped or for that matter unwrapped stay out of the fucking fight!!!!!! Guy wanted to touch them or something. The dumbest shit ever in middle of the fight where feeling something can make all the difference in the movement. Stay away ref!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe because they took his game and added leg locks. They don't want those BJJ fanatics shoppers to realize that and look to Marcelo's instructional instead.
Only a 7kg difference. I say "only" but that's about 10% for Marcelo, so it's not insignificant. Roger is just so tall and long, and Marcelo is quite short and stout. Buchecha was about 7kg heavier than Rodger when they fought, but Roger still looks BIGGER next to Buchecha. Big frame, long limbs. Would have loved to see them fight more...could have been a great rivalry.
@@speardjinn5085 Most have Roger as the GOAT in gi jiu jitsu, and Gordan Ryan as the obvious in no gi. I would say he's more popular though, so you're going to have people think Marcelo is the best based on popularity at times even if it's not true.
Marcelo is the best grappler of all time roger is the best go grappler of all time. Marcelo is 70 lbs smaller. The ref annoys the shit out of me stop tugging on the go and the belt wtf? Leave it alone.
Is it just me, or is the ref's interfering really annoying? I've watched quite a few BJJ and grappling matches and I've never seen a ref constantly adjusting belts, gis and overall being way too involved. I don't know a lot about competitive BJJ, but something about this ref....

Didn’t see any threat but he indeed defended very well

More like defending the entire time from begin to end. But still did well against the goat. Marcelo was a great in his own right
I was there for this match.. one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Marcelo is Absolute Legend of BJJ GOATs. No one has ever competed and been consisted in GI/No GI as him. He fought his weight and absolute all the time.
It's like fighting a monster... kudos to Marcelo for being such a tough fighter
No doubt Marcelo is the greatest grappler of all of them.
He's not, but Marcelo might have been the greatest grappler if he was a little bigger. Overall it was Roger Gracie.
Marcelo is pound for pound GOAT
My 2 favorite grapplers! Amazing match! Marcelo is not human!

What a match. Two GOATs battling it out. Marcelo looked close to finishing him when he got his back at the end.
not close at all. Roger is too good.
@@yevgeniyzharinov7473it was clearly close to finish Roger. Of course Roger is too good. But also is Marcelo! Great fight ! Two GOATs!
It was a good position, but not that close to a finish.
2 of the "All Time Greats"
Marcelo's defence so sharp. Great figth!!!
Marcelo é um Monstro. Deu um show de Jiu-Jistu. Categorias diferentes. Sou fã! Parabêns Marcelo!
Great match!!!!!!!!!
The hart of Marcelo...
Rogers back roll sweep..... Wow.
This was two of the greatest guys in a super technical battle. Fantastic to watch and show that size does not matter on both ends.
Dois monstros, cada um na sua categoria!
What a fight!!! Two greats, one winner.
Que aula de Jiu Jitsu! Oss
What an amazing match. Not often you see Roger on the bottom not by his choice.
The two great ones - anyone catch the score?

2 of the best ever. Amazing.
Coisa linda, história do jiu jitsu
He gave Roger a tougher match than many others who were larger.
Why were these two competing on the first place?
How close was marcelos attempt from the back?
You know someone is a legend when the comment section is mostly people complimenting the other guy for putting up a decent fight in a losing effort.

That win had everything to do with size and strength.
I didn't see any technique there either

Roger is the man too Oss 🥋
Ai foi guerra hein! Dois monstros
How could Garcia ever grapple like this with such heavy balls?
Marcelo unique jitser 💪🔥
Marcelo is a STUD.
We need a simulator that brings Marcelo up and Roger down (in weight) to meet in the middle. Then let's see. :)
bravo.. Marcelo Gracie
Que luta!
Roger is Great. But Marcelo pound for pound is better.. It was size that got Roger the points. No time limit and I'd give it to Marcelo.
Marcelo is awesome
Marcelo Garcia 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Roger/buchecha = maiores de todos os tempos!
Marcelinho = melhor de todos os tempo!
