  • What do you do when you have faith but it doesn't feel like it's enough? Does God truly honor faith the size of a mustard seed, even if it's coming from a skeptic who's not quite sure if Christianity is true? In this brief exchange, Frank offers some encouragement and lays out the message of the Gospel to a humble college student who was raised as a Christian but now struggles with doubt.

If we had 100% certainty, we wouldn't need faith. Everyone exercises faith in some way or other. Faith - any kind of faith - must have an object. The issue this young man raised deserves some additional explanation, though Frank did a great job.
When the pastor asks the audience during the invitation, "If you're not 100% certain that you're going to heaven when you die, then you need to trust IN Jesus to be saved." What the pastor is is attempting to do is to parse out what the person is trusting in for his salvation. Trusting in good works, church membership, holy communion, baptism, and other things almost always leaves a person in doubt. However, once the gospel is made clear, as Frank did here in this video, then a person who comes to the knowledge that his works, etc. can never save him - but he can choose the way that God has provided through Jesus' death on the cross. When he does, that simple act of faith results in the Holy Spirit coming into his life, and then, according to Romans 8:16 "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. (See also 1 John 5:8-10). This is as close to 100% certainty that we can get - and it beats anything else - the Bible gives us that assurance.

    • @mattr.1887

When you die, what if you got to heaven but found out that it was just more of the same? ie, you can only speak to God through prayer, and you can only hear from God by reading the Bible. You found out that you'll NEVER get to see or talk with God face to face.
Would you be okay with that?

@@mattr.1887 We don't know exactly what it will be like in God's kingdom. But the Bible will stand until heaven and earth pass away. As far as reading the Bible after we are with God, the Bible says there will be a new order of things and God will live with us (Revelation 21: 3-4). Jesus Christ is the living Word of God and when we see Him we see the Father (John 14: 9) and we will see Him as He is and be like Him.
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. -1 John 3: 2

For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. -Matthew 5: 17-8

That's the straw man argument that atheists like to use against theists, but that's not what Turek believes, nor what most Christians believe, nor what the Bible defines as faith. Faith is NOT believing something without evidence; it's believing something with less than 100% certainty, and so you have the same kind of faith that most rational people have.

'Believe That' is Theory. 'Believe In' is Practical. We need the theoretical knowledge, the facts, the information so that we can take an action or make a decision which is practical application of theory. Faith in Action is Alive, without action, faith is Dead. So if you have faith like a mustard seed, plant it. Don't let that seed remain in your hand or lying on a desk because then that faith (seed which has potential to become a huge tree) will remain inactive producing zero results which in turn brings disappointment. Faith is Powerful enough to Move Mountains.

Wait a second... you are clearly motivated to seek out truth. When I encountered many of the same issues with the Bible (contradictions, missing sections, mistranlations, intentional altering of hundreds (if not thousands) of verses for political gain, seeking to control the population... For over 1,500 of the 2,000+ years since the death of Jesus, every single Bible that was ever held, every Bible that was ever read, every Bible that was ever referenced for guidance, or used by a parent to teach their child... every person who ever lived who ever saw, touched, or read a single verse within the Bible... for 1,500 years (75% of the years it's existed "the bible" has existed as "THE Bible") Every. Single. Bible. Ever. Read. 1,500 years of Bibles, were HAND COPIED.
Even if EVERY human being who ever found themselves tasked with transcribing another new Bible NEVER ONCE encountered a reason (Or desire. Or motive. Or intent.) to alter even one letter of one single word, within a single verse, on a single page among the hundreds of other pages... in 1,500 years of transcription EVEN WITHIN THE SAME LANGUAGE (meaning even if, for arguments sake, you totally ignore the MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger set of problems that accompany the work of transcribing, by hand, a whole new copy of The Bible, but the reference Bible available to be copied is in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LANGUAGE. )
You think nobody changed a thing in 1500 years? Even if you only count accidents (and you REALLY low-ball the estimate) you can easily bank on there being AT LEAST 3 mistakes per 500,600,700 page hand transcription of The Bible.
After enough time, if someone who lived during those 1500 years compared their Bible to, say, a Bible that had been transcribed by a scribe in a town several hundred miles away, they'd definitely find the two books were not identical. There would be inconsistencies in the spelling of certain words (and we all know there are words where, for example, adding a letter - or 2 - fully changes the meaning of the entire sentence. That's just one way. There'd be omissions of entire sentences. Even the innocent mistake of incorrectly copying a word where you've put a letter "E" where there was meant to be a letter "A" can be sufficient to alter the meaning of the original word entirely. But how do you discern which copy of the Bible is the one with the error?
Ok, I have to go without adding the full conclusion but I trust you get where I intended to go with this. As I was careful to always choose to err on the side of over-clarifying rather than risk a misunderstanding.

Faith the size of a mustard seed doesn’t mean a little faith mixed with a ton of doubt.
    Doubt cancels Faith.
Mustard seed faith says that God does not have to check all my boxes.
He doesn’t have to make 100% sense to me.
Faith says “I will trust Him!” Period! Even if I look like a fool!
“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”
    Matthew 16:25
Jesus never ruined anyone’s life EVER.
    Humans ruin their lives everyday.
To doubt Jesus is to trust something else.
So it’s basically a matter of what you believe in and why you trust it.
A mustard seeds worth of faith in Christ sounds like this…..
Lord I don’t know you. I don’t know how to know you. I need you to make yourself known to me personally.

There should be confirmation and evidence of our faith. Transformation of the old self to the new by having been born again and filled with the Spirit.
Repentance, conviction of sin, a love for Christ, hungering for the word and time with God in prayer, a love for the bretheren and fellowship with them, the continuing growth of the fruit of the spirit in and through our lives and a lasting faith.

Since we are not infinite beings, we have no way to prove beyond a shadow of any doubt that our perceptions are flawed. As Frank often says, "We could all be living in the Matrix." He's right, that's possible, and being inside of it (i.e. not infinite), we have nothing to tell us that there's something "outside" of where we are that is distorting our perceptions.
But to date, nothing has provided any convincing evidence that we are living in the Matrix. It's simply a thought experiment at this point.
So what are we supposed to do?
Live the life we have with what we can do and what we can know. Often, I find that people will intellectually argue a position (i.e. "We all just live in the Matrix, etc), but when it comes down to how they actually live their lives, they behave as if they do not live in the Matrix. In the end, that's all we can do.
To sum it up, our actions speak louder than words.
What about your claims? I won't and can't deny them. I wasn't there. All I'd ask is, "Do you live your life in accordance with your claim?" If yes, then good. If not, then stop lying.

You need to have faith in Christ to be saved. Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone. You need to trust God completely.

Because your sins are forgiven and you've turned from them, you can't follow sin anymore. You now follow Christ.

A little sin sends you to hell and a little faith sends you to heaven, pretty simple
Mark 9:21-27 (ESV): 21 And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” 25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” 26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

That’s a huge commitment… “believing in” . It means abandoning any real effort to ascertain FACTS !! It means developing a lifestyle based not on physical evidence but instead of pure emotion and the unwillingness to accept the inevitability, even in the fact of mountains of evidence that EVERYTHING eventually dies in a physical universe. Denying that borders on psychosis.
And psychologically speaking the natural external world doesn’t care one iota if you live or die. It’s just the way the physical universe is. And if you believe in god/creation, they you should realize that what you experience, all the cruelty, uncertainty, etc is a direct result of creation !! And did anyone alive today have any say in how the universe was created ?? If not, then what you see is all that you get.
You can go though an entire human lifetime living under a delusion. But
I say it’s far more courageous, authentic to live life based upon nothing more that what can be physically known. Very little in the Bible can be proven.

You make the error of concluding just because certain individuals made certain empirical claims their views of the supernatural must be legitimate. But that a perspective based upon nothing but mere opinion.
Regardless of what those individuals claimed or did you cannot take the “culture” out of them. Their convictions about the supernatural was something they were brainwashed with at an early age. And relying upon such a historical perspective fails to keep pace with new “scientific” knowledge.
Obviously, those individuals you cite were “colored” by how they were raised, the prominence of religion in their lives, and even if any of the people you cite did not believe in the supernatural, at just about any time in the past few people were willing to admit their apostasy for fear of being shunned, or face character assassinations, etc by the “orthodoxy”. So I suspect there’s been many rational thinking “discoverers” who were too fearful of admitting they didn’t believe in the supernatural.
So unless you want to cite the history of those individuals and what might have led them to be known as believers, it does little good to point to mere names.

Let’s set the record straight once again…
In regards to “original sin”, there is no greater threat to practicing true Christianity than the doctrine of original sin. The doctrine of original sin lies at the heart of almost every false doctrine in the “Christian” religious world today. The Bible does NOT teach this false doctrine. We are NOT born sinners with a sinful nature. Children are innocent and pure, they DO NOT have a sinful nature.
As a reminder of “God’s Plan of Salvation”, You must HEAR the gospel, you must BELIEVE, you must REPENT, you must CONFESS, you must be BAPTIZED for the remission of sins, you must be faithful unto death.
There are two things about salvation that go together that must be rejected as well.
Salvation of faith alone (another false doctrine) and the Sinner’s Prayer.
I’ve already just explained why at this point “faith alone” is not sufficient based on God’s Plan of Salvation.
The “Sinner’s Prayer” is neither biblical nor scriptural and none of the passages used to support “sinner’s prayer” salvation work as advertised.
The Reformers know that “Faith Only” just does not make any sense either Biblically or practically.
Here is the problem: It is just too vague. When exactly is one saved? Don’t say, “at the point of faith alone without any works of obedience.” No one really believes that and that is NOT what the Bible teaches!
There has to be some point of practical reference in which (at which) one goes from “being unsaved to being saved.” Where is that point in real time? Exactly when does the “new life in Christ” begin? With “Faith Only” there is just no real perceived point that is easily clarified in the minds of men. It is just too vague and nebulous. (“Faith Only” is a great sounding doctrine, but it is a lousy one when it comes to practice and practical implementation.)
So, enter the “Sinner’s Prayer”! Now we have an actual moment, a line of demarcation, a dividing point from the old life to the new life. A time that can be specifically identified (and remembered) when someone “gets saved.”
The Sinner’s Prayer is only the result of the doctrines and commandments of men, not God. It is a sorry attempt to fix the defective doctrine of “Faith Only.”
What is more, it does not do a very good job of it. Saying the sinner’s prayer is simply a way of declaring to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no "magical" words that result in salvation.
It is NOT faith alone, but faith working in harmony with working obedience. You see when Paul talked about faith in Romans, his concept of faith was one that worked.
He started the letter with, “Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:5-6).
And he ended his letter on the same note. “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began but now has been made manifest, and by the prophetic scriptures has been made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith” (Romans 16:25-26).
The Bible doesn’t teach that salvation is exclusively by faith. That was a doctrine that originated with men. The Bible has always taught that salvation occurs when faith is joined by obedient action to the commands of God.
Faith alone justifies but a justified person with faith alone would be a monstrosity which never exists in the kingdom of grace.
Those who are humble, who turn from their sins and who have faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ have access to God’s gift of grace. And no one wants to lose that blessing.
We are told to “pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright” (Hebrews 12:14-16).
Once one receives God’s grace and stands in His grace, future unrepentant actions by that individual could cause him or her to fall short of being under grace. For instance, if bitterness, which is actually a state of anger and hatred, is not repented of, one could become defiled by that wrong attitude or spirit and fall short of the grace of God. Likewise, we could be like Esau who sold out his future for the pleasures of the present. Therefore, we need to continue to pursue peace with all people and maintain holiness.
The apostle Paul noted the following in Galatians 5:4: “You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”
Paul explained that anyone could fall from grace-even he himself could! He was the apostle to the gentiles and was mightily used by God, yet he realized the potential for losing the condition of grace given to him from God. He explained this using the analogy of an athlete competing for a prize.
“And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:25-27).
Paul realized that he had to continue staying close to God, being humble and being obedient to God: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Ephesians 2:10). Having the grace of God is a wonderful gift, but if we neglect such a gift by turning away from God and His way of life, we would fall from it (see Hebrews 6:4-6).
But here is the encouraging thing to know: God wants us to continue in His grace, and He will help us to do that. Notice Philippians 1:6: “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
So, we can only fall from grace-from God’s wonderful gift-if we ourselves allow it to happen. Therefore, we must remain steadfast in holiness. We must not forget that we are justified by Christ’s blood. And we must make sure we do not become disqualified by our own undisciplined or disobedient actions.
God promises His grace, and we must not fall from it!
Bible verses never contradict each other. But they do compliment each other. So we cover all bases in the New Testament by fulfilling ALL COMMANDMENTS. Not just the verses we are comfortable with.

There certainly is some mystery surrounding this. Jesus says that no one comes to Him unless the Father first draws them. We also learn that salvation is a gift that we must choose to receive. By “choosing”, are we causing our own salvation? Maybe…but it is a gift…right?
My understanding, in simplest terms, is like someone handing you a wrapped present (the gift). You wouldn’t have that wrapped present if they hadn’t handed it to you, but you can choose whether to keep it and even open it. Once your eyes are opened to it, you have the gift and can choose whether you want to explore it, utilize it, and let it change you.
God is a gentlemen. He knocks on the door, but He doesn’t force His way in. We can open the door and let Him into our lives.

Faith is the "power of total conviction" in the mind, possessing the mind.
Faith, arising out of your need to believe in something, because such a belief will serve your purposes in some way, can be powerful and strong.
Belief is even stronger. Belief is the offspring of hearsay and logic. Because you have heard something and been convinced that what you have heard or read is true, you develop a deep belief in what you have heard. You believe it to be true. You believe in a total, complete way which defies contradiction.
Christ was constantly telling people: "Believe you will receive-and you will receive."
However, Christ knew at the time, that it will be almost impossible for most people to ever have the faith which will cause miracles to happen, since no matter how much he or others might explain TRUTH to them, they will still never have the intense knowing.
Up to this time, people who have faith in "Christ" are like precocious children. Their faith has been partially blind and accepting, yet interwoven with much doubt. Therefore, whatever they needed to be done for them, they depended on "Christ" for the work to be accomplished. Whereas, in fact, much of what they believed they have derived directly from "Christ" has been their own "faith in Christ" made visible in the form of things asked for.
While this child-like "faith" is very important to our well-being, those who are capable of moving onward on the spiritual path to perfection, must now reach a deeper level of true knowledge of the relation between mind and "matter." Without this foundation, people will continue to flounder in myths, fallacies and will be locked into the misery of the human condition.

You need to ignore reality, and put all your faith in the bible. Stop trying to find out if it's actually true, and just take it on faith.

So faith IS the evidence of something you can’t see.
      Such as Santa Claus.
Your faith itself is evidence it exists.
That IS what that is saying.

"Faith is a reasoned, justified belief in which we actively place our trust."
      Example.
"I have faith that my airline pilot is who he claims, has the education that he should, that his employers have background checked him." My justification?.... He flys for Delta, they run a successful business, have a good history, and many other people have trusted Delta pilots with their lives.
Maybe your saying faith/ or testing...like in really messed up circumstances where all hope is lost we have to ignore what the reality APPEARS to be, and continue forward in faith that God will make a way?

Maybe Jesus will give Frank faith, and abandon his false beliefs and spreading all these lies about Christianity. Poor Frank rejects Gods true presence in the Most Holy Eucharist
