"What is Daoism?" - follow one line explanation - "Here is my confutation of a two thousands years old philosophy I just heard for the first time explained by a kid in one sentence, I am sure I know enough about it to discuss it competently". It is like someone not knowing much about Christianity giving a 1 line explanation of Christianity to someone that does not know _anything_ about Christianity, and seeing them accepting the first obvious objection that has been at the core of the philosophical debate in Daoism since its inception. It is particularly funny that one could make the _exact_ same objection to Christianity, if they only heard one random line. Imagine "This Jesus guy I read something about is a cool guy, he said that if someone slap you, you should turn the other cheek instead of fighting him back" "So, if the Nazi invade the country today, shooting at you, you would not fight back?" "Oh yes, good point... I guess it is mostly a generic philosophical thing interesting in theory" "Cool beans".

If the world supported “nazis” and only america was against it, would you go with or against the flow?

I have an amazing story. One day I was driving home and I felt the presence of the Lord, come down to me from above. It was as real as anything and I felt so comfortable with Him. I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would. So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..." I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly... I started getting flooded with chills inside, trembling, and crying tears of joy. When I got home, He stayed with me for 10 minutes till I got out of the car. Since then, I've been getting prayers answered wayyyy more often, because that experience made me stop doubting when I pray, and I follow Biblical instructions for praying, as best I can.
@@sandywelch9903 I'm counting on it. Also, awhile after that visitation, I was watching a preacher on UA-cam and I felt this compassion come over me by the Holy Spirit, I believe. So I prayed for him. "Father, I pray you double this man's ministry, double his finances, and double his marital life, in Jesus holy name. Amen." The next day he released a new video. He was standing on stage for a bit, smiling. Then he said "The Lord has just doubled his ministry. He's doubled his finances and He's doubled his marital life...!! I received that word by faith, just like I had been taught to do, and didn't think any more about it. So I went into work the following Monday morning as usual, and I'm sitting at my desk working, when I get a phone call from the VP of Human Resources, asking me to come to her office. So I go to her office, she closes the door, and says "I received your annual review paperwork from your boss on Friday. I just wanted to let you know that I told your boss that the amount of your annual wage increase was not acceptable, and you will be getting double that amount." Exactly what the preacher said!!! Kudos to the young man Micah for having the humility to admit while he may agree with something philosophically, it's not a true conviction he could lie by. It takes a lot of lack of pretense to admit that while you might agree with something on paper, it doesn't fit the mode of practical use. Especially when compared to the applicability of God's word and Christianity.
This is how intelligent people act when they are shown they are wrong. So many of us (me included) get defensive while trying to insist that I am correct. Not just because he ended up on my side but because he really listened and has sound judgement. We can all learn from this young gentleman. I have been trying hard over the last few years to admit when I am wrong. I do it regularly now 😂 but it did take some training. I think it’s a natural human reaction to want to always be right. In order for us to always be right, we have to admit when we are wrong sometimes lol if that makes any since? 😂😂😂
Lao Tzu said in Tao te Ching (as translated by Stephen Mitchell) "The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao, the name that can be named is not the eternal name." As I've come to interpret it, Tao isn't so much a religion as it is a philosophy on how things are done and living your life, and there may be instances where you have a pretty concrete idea of what it is you're doing based off of what others have done before, someone had to do whatever "it" is first. The method that "it" was done birthed out of the spontaneous moment can only be described in terms of "Tao." Or as Lao Tzu puts it "You can't know it but you can be it." It isn't so much "going with the flow" as it's often times just said off the cuff and nothing more is said about it. The "flow" as it were is the way life presents itself. This "flow" (as has often been described as "just letting things happen," incorrectly) is embodied by a Taoist concept; "This arises, that becomes." Things tend to imply other things- tend to underpin the inseparability of things. Simply speaking for example, bees imply flowers, Earth implies sky, short implies long, front implies back and so on. In an instance of "Nazis," they would utterly _imply_ resistance. A Taoist that truly cared about his community and the balance of things (which Lao Tzu repeatedly insists that this is part and parcel to living life fully) would _absolutely_ take up arms against a group of people that would seek to do others undue harm. Lao Tzu says, extensively that harming your fellow man is abhorrent, but relents that it is sometimes necessary. He says "The Master enters a battle gravely, with sorrow and with great compassion. His enemies are not demons, but human beings." This underlines the insoluble trap, as it were in Zen. You see, to have someone that cares for his fellow man, it implies one that does not. Tao is not about sitting back and not doing anything and letting everything happen. It is about doing your job, in the way it is and doing it with all your intent and focus _as though_ you were doing nothing. Not literally "do nothing." Wei wu Wei literally translates to "doing not doing." Like breathing or opening your hand. You didn't know the neurological process of how you did it the first time you did it, you just did it. The same way an oak tree sprouts from an acorn. The tree doesn't "know" how it's done, it just does it, effortlessly. So you too spontaneously enter into the world. You may know how you hear with your ears, intellectually, but the intellectual process of knowing doesn't hear _for_ you. That is Tao. It's like describing the color red to a blind person that's never seen color before. There's no way to know it, you just experience it.
I wanted to make a case for classic western mind, not understanding/misrepresenting Taoism, but you did a pretty good job here. Thanks for taking the time.
I hope and pray this kid finds Jesus 🙏❤️

authentic Daoist, as a Chinese I can affirm that
That’s very impressive no matter what side someone is on it is very difficult to see things from the other persons perspective in an argument and to have a great attitude about it and be respectful at the same time
This is one of my favorite conversations I’ve listened to 🥰
It's always wholesome to see two polite and humble people just having a normal discussion.
Yeh. You can imagine what an alternative answer could have been because we’ve seen it so many times. Well all the time infact:
And that’s the person realising the dead end they’re in and pausing a moment to find a way of answering that still fits their viewpoint and skirts the question. This takes balls to agree that the other person is right and change on the spot

Frank Turek as funny as usual! Great entertainment as usual.
Yea, Im sure theres more to do with dao than that one interpretation.
Going with the flow may mean peace and progress, in that case the nazis would be the one going against the flow. (And I think in daoism by default will find it hard to achieve what they want, the world would literally be against them).
and if nazis were going with the flow somehow(some future where america turned oppressor and somehow the vestiges of nazism is hope against them like some shitty movie plot) then they would find the world supporting them. If the world supported “nazis” and only america was against it, would you go with or against the flow?
What a delightful young man! And he listens and he’s teachable- attributes of greatness
Great kid!! He didn't own himself at all.. He listened, evaluated and accepted another's veiwpoint.. He'll go far with that attitude 👏👏
I took that as less of a “oooo you got owned” and more of a “you are taking responsibility for and ‘owning’ your principles instead of simply hiding behind regurgitation of rheroric”
This is what a reasoned discussion is supposed to be like. This is very refreshing.
Go with the flow so long as it’s flowing your way!
He is seriously the first college-age kid we've heard from in the last several years who spoke, listened, spoke again, listened some more, and didn't either start screaming or making rude gestures at the presenter. Mad respect for the fact he knows his mind, but is willing to change it.
He’s not American lol so there’s that. Much more respect compared to American brats and I say this as an American
That's because he's from Nebraska
That's because our social media point of view is blown out of proportion. Whoever studied in a classroom or at uni remembers all the civilized discussions that never made it to social media.
Your algorithm shows you what you engage with..
Even at these events; the speakers usually know what interactions to post on social media. The ones with cringy liberal students are always the go to. People are more entertained by seeing a snot nosed kid get told off then a young adult with reasoned arguments.

Does “going with the flow” necessitate not protecting/defending oneself against a threat?
I have an amazing story. One day I was driving home and I felt the presence of the Lord, come down to me from above. It was as real as anything and I felt so comfortable with Him.
I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would.
So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..."
I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly...
God Bless you! He loves you very much! 🥰
Amen."
The next day he released a new video. He was standing on stage for a bit, smiling. Then he said "The Lord has just doubled his ministry. He's doubled his finances and He's doubled his marital life...!!
My heart started pounding from shock, because I wasn't even thinking about how I prayed and he said my exact prayer from the night before.
Then a week or two later, another prayer like that was answered. It went on and on like that so much. It still happens.
@@dc_latername9064 I've seen answers to lots of prayers also, and I've also seen words spoken over me come to pass.
I was watching Christian television one Saturday years ago, when the preacher (R. W. Schambach) looked right into the camera and said, "There's somebody out there listening, you need to get ready, because God's going to give you double for your trouble!"
I've had lots of other words spoken over me by friends, etc. that came to pass, and I've seen lots of amazing answers to prayer. God is so amazing!!! 🌟💖🌟
Don’t base your faith in feelings and emotion but on the word of God.
@@jp22344 I was already Christian before that happened. I had decided I would pray every day for God to give me a tangible testimony, till it happened. About 8 months or so, of praying for it at least once a day, it happened.
I wanted to know I was doing good for the Lord, (not that we're saved by good works) and wanted to help lead people to Christ/strengthen peoples faith.
So that's how God answered and to me personally I think it's truly tailor made for me, and I adore Him and think it's just so awesome.
To back it up though. Awhile after that happened, I was watching a preacher on UA-cam and I felt this compassion come over me by the Holy Spirit, I believe.

Words sound different than thoughts. Ever notice how once you say something your thinking out loud you realize how stupid it sounds lol?
Like that sounded so much better in my head. 😂
its called intellectual honesty
To increase one’s knowledge one must be willing to make mistakes and realize when they do so. Kudos to this kid he truly is on the correct path.
Anyone have the original talk which this q&a clip was cut from? I’d like to see it.
Lao Tzu said in Tao te Ching (as translated by Stephen Mitchell) "The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao, the name that can be named is not the eternal name."
As I've come to interpret it, Tao isn't so much a religion as it is a philosophy on how things are done and living your life, and there may be instances where you have a pretty concrete idea of what it is you're doing based off of what others have done before, someone had to do whatever "it" is first.
@@insideoutstudiosonline They do it _all_ the time. Thanks for reading!
