Joe for each thru-hull size it's good to have a cork or wood tapered plug stopper if needed to stop a failure or hose rupture, then a person can jump in the water a bang the cork into the failed thru-hull till the repair can be made........I use old champagne corks. Hey another great Video Joe !
A simple hole, a lot of work but... another item out of To do List. Thanks to share. Past Sunday I saw an old Pocket cruise that needs an owner to refurbish... May be me? Lol...😂
Love the channel! Couple of observations would be to use a 6 sided wrench, not 12. And put a metal or even wood dowel in the thru-hull fitting so you can clamp down on it without the surprise explosion! "Ask me how I know"! LOL!
Thanks for the enthusiasm. And I just got myself a Concorde 31. To give you an idea of the state of this boat, the day before yesterday I pumped out the water, there was like 4" of water above the floorboards. Wish me luck!
Hi! Nice channel!) In my opinion, it's better at first- to add some sealant from inside to a nut, and second- to give extra sealant sqeezed around out from the thru-hull some time to get hard and only than cut it delicate, cause acetone is not the best friend of sealant)
Unless you hope to re-use the old thru-hull, it's much more time efficient to grind off the flange from the outside and simply pull the stem out. Those plastic ones can be cut off with a Dremel.
@@motorcityboatwerks I know how much you like your snake 😄- Im just not good enough free hand and would end up trying to fix an egg shapped hole ....have a great day my friend!
I hear you😀 I had the same concerns. But I’ve become a believer due to the control and flexibility. The precision is unrivaled even for a clod like me. Stay safe 😃👍 And thank your for the comments 🤩
Thanks for the comment Mark. 🤔There is no need for the added coast or weight of any metal backing plate for thru hulls. And the metal would not easily conform to the odd shapes of the hull
I relate to how you learn and do things. Difference is you are great at explaining and you speak with clarity.
Thanks so much Doug😁 I’m really glad people enjoy the episodes and get what I’m doing
Tons of great knowledge for projects of all kinds, thanks for the good work! My first boat was a Skipper 20! That was cool to see
Thanks Matty 😁 Welcome to the channel
Good work and great tips Joe!
Thanks Joe 😁👍

Thanks for the comment Vincent!👍😁
Kinda funny topic considering I am near you this weekend at the Great Lakes Shipwreck festival in Livonia.

Fantastic Jeferson! Let’s see what you’ve discovered 😁 Thank you for the feedback and comment 👍😁

I uploaded some pictures onto my FaceBook page. (Please notice the floating floorboards, lol)
No worries mate. You’re always welcome 🤗
Excellent I will check them out 😁👍

Thanks for taking about these cheap ass thru hulls Joe. I get that folks are one budget, but there's just some things you can not comprise on
😁👍
I would have used a piece of plywood - drill with hole saw - use as a guide for the hole saw over the old thru hull…I hope that makes sense
Thanks for the comment. I think you will find this more challenging than you think. 🤔
@@motorcityboatwerks alternatively you could glue the backing plate in and drill from the inside….
If you’re desperate to use a hole saw-I guess so. But the beauty of the Snake is how easy it solves these problems. 😉

could you use bronze or stainless steel as the backplate. It would cost more but wondering if space is a concern.

I usually take a chisel on the flange on the outside and they will shatter because of being dried out from sunlight
That’s one way to do it 😎
I forgot to mention put on safety glasses and protective clothing because the plastic pieces are sharp will cut you
Thank you John Oliver !
Just be aware white and semi clear are not uv protected and will fail in sunlight - grey or black prevents light getting into the plastic
Thank you Dan ! that’s an excellent point I didn’t not mention. I paint my thru-hull fittings, but it’s something for everyone to remember 👍😁👍
I dont like it. I LOVE IT : ) THX : )
😀
