So names... Sandling, Sand Bar, Shoal (which is made of sand), Dust, Stardust, Sand n Vac, Sand Clear, Power Tool, Fillet Queen, Fillet O Sole, Wet Sand, Dust in My Eyes. Ok, thats enough. Your video was very good! Entertaing, informative, very well edited, just a pleasure to watch! I know it was a massive process to stitch the vid together, but you did a great job. Bravo and thank you. BTW, the boat came out gorgeous.
I live on the river above a dam in South dakota & I have been wanting to build a boat for some time. Well, today, I was at a local restaurant, and I saw a man with a polo shirt advertising an oil tanker. I asked if he was military, and he said no. He explained how he got the shirt and then got into he was an engineer, plus he designed & built boats. Come to find out, his name is Dennis Schriver, one of the premier builders of boats in the world! I was able to exchange numbers, and I pray I can learn from him! He is working on something special for this area, and again, I hope I can be a part of that. What a man & what an experience today!
I love CLC! I build a 16ish foot cedar strip, bead and cove canoe about 20 years ago. Estimated time to build was 200 hours I think. I spent several times more than that just sanding b/c I wanted perfection, and it paid off. I have several canoes and kayaks and after all this time I’m approaching the tipping point of hours used vs build time for that one boat. Every hour in that boat brings back a flood of building and sanding memories. I don’t recall in detail each trip in that boat but I’ve got the memories of fitting each one of the 30+ strips to the strongback. Sanding was meditative, a labor of love, never a chore many describe it as.
In 1999, I decided to either learn to Fly or learn to Sail.. I wish I would have learned to sail, but flying is a one hour vacation I don't do often enough. This insight on your build has given me inspiration to consider it, I have worked in body shops, building amazing machines that have taught me the love of sanding until your fingerprints are virtually gone, I've done plenty of Glassing and used many types epoxy's and urethane's, Thank you for the most valuable thing we have as a species... your time
The boat looks incredible! You did a great job on both the boat and the video. One of the most underappreciated aspects of finish work is prep, (i.e. sanding). When people see the beautiful shine in the finish as a glistens back at them, one the key things got it there was all the time hard work spent sanding and attention to the details. Now you’ve been rewarded! Great job!
I saw this land a couple of days ago but it’s been such a manic and crazy week, I saved it to be able to watch on the big screen, with wine in hand, tonight. So glad I did. That was an epic build and an absolutely fabulous result! Looking forward to seeing the full build process, and your adventures in her.
So great to see this video. We met you and Ryan at CLC before you had started to build the boat. My husband had finished the Peeler Skiff and was beginning work on the Peapod sailboat which is now finished and on a trailer waiting for it to be moved to its New England home. Your boat turned out to be a real beauty. Hope you are enjoying boating on the Chesapeake.
1- You are a charming hostess for this video, so take a well deserved bow! 2- We all, who have tried nothing like this, are tremendously more informed about what sounds like the big challenge, the monotonous SANDING. 3- Compliments galore to you for the end result of your efforts as the boat looks like a GEM.
Taking the time to edit and post videos is daunting. I have trouble posting an instagram post on any kind of regular basis. You are one of the few UA-cam channels I follow and I miss you when you don’t post for a while.
Hi Sophie, my wife and I were walking across the Spa Creek Bridge yesterday evening and saw you in the little power boat! Yes, that was me, saying "I saw your video!". Such a small world. We keep our small cruising sailboat in Eastport on Back Creek.
Great video and great job on the boat. You definitely have cured me of wanting to do this myself. I have the room, I have the tools, I have the woodworking skills, but I hate sanding.
Thank you very much for this video. I'm planning on building a strip built kayak. I have been doing woodworking for years and this taught me some of the little things i had not learned it thought of. Mostly about the fiberglass process and the amount of disposables I'll go through. As for a name for your boat, I think either Sook or Sally. Sook is a mature female crab while Sally is an immature female crab. From the top of the bay, I wish you all the best!
I've wanted to build a stitch and glue boat for a long time unfortunately I am too old and feeble to do so at this point in life. I liked your narration of the video and the shots you chose to use. Chesapeake Light Craft is a company whose products I admire and the finished product is both elegant and handsome. Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to seeing some of the videos of the details.
Fantastic. You did an incredible job. Mind blowing that you never built anything before. Your boat came out beautiful. And your video was very well made. Fun, entertaining and very informative. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
She turned out beautifully! That is a project to be proud of, for sure. Congrats Sophie for putting together an amazing looking finished product (and for introducing me to a company I had no idea existed in, essentially, my backyard!) Definitely looking forward to the outfitting of electrics and rigging.
Loved the carpet shark idea with ruined mixture of pooh. You made a great movie about the kit and its construction. Great to see you two. Hope lil Barnacle is hanging tough. The electric motor and all the finishing touches look marvelous together. Glad you made a boat builder out of youselves. TTYL
also a fun source for boat names is a fishing lure collectors books - they had very insightful lure names as they tried to catch the angler first, and the fish second
Yes, I really enjoyed your video... and I must add that you have a true talent with pictures and sound, and for a vivid presentation of your subject ! Having spent half of my life producing and directing documentary films for the National Film board of Canada, I very well know how much work and crafwomanship it takes to make an instructive and still captivating video about a subject as complex and also as dry as building a wood-epoxy watercraft ! Congratulation for your achievemet and be sure that I will be eagerly waiting for the rest of the story ! :)
Polar Pup is good. I would go with "Baby Seal" Excellent narrative by the way, for what could be a relatively dry story this was a shockingly engaging video.
Great Job Sophie! I also built my own (very small) row boat and it is a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Just taking some photos for facebook seemed to be a big deal to me, so I can imagine what it was like to put together this video. Can't wait to see what is next.
That was realy nice to see get built in those small clips and story how much work goes it to it . Well done all who helped . And even those who tried lol . Stunning results . 😊 I do fancy one my self to tow behind my old vwt4 😊 👍🏴😁✌️
Happy to see this video! Can’t wait to see the whole series. The finished product looks great!! Put me down for crab cake for the name. I like polar pup, but lets face it, it’s not going to be the tender for Polar Seal. Sophie, you and Jessica from @mjsailing, could probably use some happy hour therapy to get over “the endless hours spent sanding”.
Oh Sophie! I feel your pain of sanding. We have spent the past week fiberglassing our boat, and the amount of sanding to take off the primer that the previous owner put on before they probably should have is a lot. Filming too much seems to be my downfall, which is won't edit until probably we at least get the top painted or have enough rain in can't work. The boat looks beautiful that you built. I can't wait to see it in the water. Oh, and crab cakes for a name? awesome!
Awesome work! I am considering doing a 16’ inboard runabout boat, and this video was very helpful in giving a good idea of the scope of that project. But I am excited to get started!
Great episode! Really enjoyed the build process and the storytelling. Looking forward to seeing you both and the boat in Mystic. Bill from Boston. Cheers.
The finished project looks fantastik! I can't imagine how much time it must have taken to pick which less than 1/10,000 of the footage to make this video.
Thank you Sophie great job building the boat and great job for the editing I can imagine it took a lot of time. Tack så mycket!! Hope you will get many happy memories with it❤
Enlisting your friends to sand, why didn't I think of that?! This is the best, such an amazing build, I can't wait to see it this weekend! I had the same reaction when seeing this in the catalog but I think I'll need some time after my latest round of sanding to convince myself this is a good idea haha
This is a tremendous video beautiful craftsmanship as well I really really really wanna do this project and I am heading into the winter so the timing is also very apropos you did the company a great service and they definitely got their money's worth out of what you did for them amazing job
Hello, I like your work. Have a couple of questions. If the answers are in the video, just let me know aprox. where and that's good. 1. Why did you choose electric propulsion? 2. Why did you choose Elco for your motor? I'm finishing Peeler Skiff and would like to seriously consider electric propulsion. Thanks a lot. Glenn
I would go with “crab cake” having had many crab cakes at the long gone Annapolis market, it is a great name and symbolic of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.
A few years ago in Great Britain there was a public poll to name a new polar research ship and the name 'Boaty Mc Boatface' won with 3 times more votes than the next contender. However, the boat was eventually name Sir David Attenborough. So the name Boaty Mc Boatface is still available.
Great video--and wow, what a beautiful boat you've made!! My idea for a name is "Sand Crab" so you never forget the joy of spending hundreds of hours sanding epoxy. :D
Name the boat. Sandy. It’s a reference to all your Sanding.
Rhode Runner, it's in the video
Dusty
@@TheRealHawKingshould name your boat “lost”. Its a reference to your sense of humor
@@mjohan4998 oh no are you sad, please dont cry...
I named mine "side gig" because it's a second job AND takes the place of a girlfriend.
So names...

It's not just that I enjoyed the video, the amount of work you dedicated to it is clearly noticeable. Thanks for sharing

Sanding Ovation is clearly the best name for this amazing boat!!
Very nice
Standing ovation, a clear winner.
Ohhh, that is good!
You did a wonderful job condensing all of the footage into a coherent, well stated, story! Thank you!

i did both
I’m envious you had the time to do that
I was so happy to spend the day with you both while you were working so hard on this project!
Best video yet, great job. I built the 17 kayak and that was a big job but I still use it 18 years later.
Amazing very nice ❤

My vote is for S $ E. Could be cardinal points. Could be for S and E. (Sandy). Thank you for the video. Transparent and self effacing. Loved it.
Great video. Very comprehensive. I just finished a class for a much less intense CLC kit and you gave a wonderful synopsis of so much! Well done!

Sophie, Awesome job on the video it was great. Your dedication to details on the boat shows. Great Job!!!
Garet job 🎉
"I have sanded away my soul". Such a Bergmanesque line!
You did a fantastic job on the video Sophie!...and also an incredible job on building the boat!
Both my wife and I enjoyed your video. Surprised you're still sane enough to edit a video like this.
Good work ❣️
Great to see you making videos!
Boat name: 220 GRIT
(in honor of the sandpaper)
Thank you Sophie for the great video and the boat looks beautiful.
This is such an awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to make a very nice and funny story out of your huge effort project.
You are amazing 😍 Big Respect from Algeria 🇩🇿 thank you for this informations 🎉
Excellent video, and I'd name your creation Sophie's Choice!
love Love Love this, “Women are the better boat builder!”❤
Right?!!! I think the World just needs more women boat builders... :)
Love you guys
An inspiring video! Thank you for sharing your experience.
You guys are such great story tellers. We probably don''t get it all the pain and missing finger prints, but I like how you make me think I did.
Congratulations! Even with all the pain that comes with it, after watching the video I got really excited to build my own boat 🙂

Looks super cool! Hope we will see it at the boat show in October. Great job with the video too.
Polar Pup is good. I would go with "Baby Seal"
Excellent narrative by the way, for what could be a relatively dry story this was a shockingly engaging video.
That boat is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you for making this video it has opened my eyes on possibilities in construction of a wooden boat, love your beautiful boat, cheers mate 👍

Your content was fantastic thank you. I’ve been going through a terrible time in my life and this video made my day a bit brighter
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it.
Bummer I missed the CT show. Would be really interested to see the boat. Especially because it's electric! Great job!
Happy to see this video! Can’t wait to see the whole series. The finished product looks great!! Put me down for crab cake for the name. A big fan of CLC Boats, building one of their boats now... but fortunately, I don't need to video it. Nice work on the boat and the video.
Thank you Sophie great job building the boat and great job for the editing I can imagine it took a lot of time. Tack så mycket!! Hope you will get many happy memories with it❤

Asking friends to help sand is on par with giving orchids or kittens for gifts...
Great video. The boat looks great and I am looking forward to seeing more videos on the build process.
The boat is gorgeous, job well done ! I also like Polar Pup.
Congratulations, the boat looks stunning. (Very well made and professional video also!)
This is a tremendous video beautiful craftsmanship as well I really really really wanna do this project and I am heading into the winter so the timing is also very apropos you did the company a great service and they definitely got their money's worth out of what you did for them amazing job
Enjoyed it so much I feel I have an extra reason to make the trip down to Annapolis!

Rälsen your head and be proud! U have done a real Greta job! Amazing! 👍👍👍👍👍🤠
la Bretonne speaks very well English , sourires . décidément CLC nous étonnera toujours par son inventivité et ses jolis bateaux .
Incredible you guys!!!! Both the boat and the video are true works of art. I vote "Crab Pup" btw...
In the movie " The Perfect Storm ", local skills were making fish nets and framing a boat like yours with a draw blade.
I like crab cake for the name of the boat...cute, absolutely gorgeous boat.
Wow, great job! I really look forward to watching the up coming videos. Thanks!
I would go with “crab cake” having had many crab cakes at the long gone Annapolis market, it is a great name and symbolic of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.
Loved your video. Inspiring and appreciate the huge efforts that are responsible. Thanks a lot.
Lovely boat. I'm impressed. Well done

Funny .. but not a serious candidate ...!
I loved the video! No plans to ever build a boat - I live in Iowa, after all - but really enjoy how you make it real - but keep it fun.
You built a very pretty boat ! Loved the video, Polar Pup gets my vote.
Very interesting video, and so different from your previous work. Great overview of wooden boat building. Polar Pup!
Polar Pup is a great name!
Good work ❣️
Great video thanks for putting it together and sharing your experience 8n building your own boat.
Absolutely beautiful! 👍👍👍
I like the paint - very nice
Beautifully made video!
Wonderful job on that boat👍
Great job! I built the Tinderly Dinghy. their kits are great.
Great video. Very interesting technique pointers. The boat should be named Sophie.
Great video--and wow, what a beautiful boat you've made!! My idea for a name is "Sand Crab" so you never forget the joy of spending hundreds of hours sanding epoxy. :D
Trop bien ton bateau Sophie ! Ça donne envie. On verra quand j'aurai fini mon poti marara. Grosses bises à vous de Tahiti 🇵🇫
Great video! I’d love to see more. Keep up the great work.
I did enjoy the video. However much work it was to build the video, it was a great watch.
I loved this video. I would call the boat "Sophie & Ryan" or "Sailing SR".
Great video!! Loved the depreciating🤣🤣 humour !!
Your boat looks absolutely gorgeous. You should be so proud.
Ps. You will be surprised how quickly you will forget about the time you put into it.
