  • Nefertiti was Queens at the height of the Ancient Egypt Empire’s wealth and power. She and her husband began a religious revolution and built a new capital city. And Nefertiti rose to the level of co-Pharaoh, one of the few female rulers in the empire’s history. She was also the step mother and mother in law of King Tutankhamun. But much about her life remains shrouded in mystery. Her most famous image, this pristinely preserved bust is a tantalizing glimpse at the life of one of the ancient world’s great Queens.

It's possible that it wasn't Nefertiti who wrote the letter to the Hittite king for help, as she still had Tutankhamun as her heir, despite being her step-son. I hear that it's most likely her daughter, Ankhesenamun, who wrote it out of desperation after her brother-husband, King Tut, died and she was forced to marry Ay, most likely her grandfather. Ew. The Hittite king did sent one of his sons to Egypt to see if this was true, but the prince died en route, possibly murdered. And conveniently, Ankhesenamun disappeared from the record of history shortly after being forced to marry Ay.

But the foreign princess theory can be disputed because Aye’s wife Tey has been named as wet nurse to Nefertiti. So how could she possibly be a foreign princess when she had a Egyptian wet nurse? Tadukhipa might actually be Akhenaten’s second wife Kiya who was known as the favorite. Because there’s not much know about her and her name means ‘jovial lady’ that coming to Egypt she took on a new name so tadukhipa might have become kiya as that name is sort of a pet name.

Mate, Nefertiti was a Mitanni. Why don’t you google that word and she what racial group the Mitanni aristocracy belonged too. Just because she ruled over Egypt doesn’t mean she was ethnically Egyptian or even belongs to Egypt. For example, the first king of (not pharaoh) Egypt was an Albanian called Mohammed Ali. If we found his remains, where does it belong? In Egypt or in his country of birth, Albania?

    • @maxisussex

To people who are surprised that other countries won't give the artifacts back to their rightful place - it's about money, and the fact that it's easier to go to UK or something, than Africa. Regardless of the names of the countries, anyone would do the same in this situation and keep them. Giving artifacts back would mean something like "take my money, I don't need them at all". This is a whole business with a lot of employees. It's too grounded for anything to change in this regard, and perhaps only war could change that. It's really naive to think that people would go with their good hearts and honor in such cases.

Hi Lindsey! Thank you so much for posting about this ancient queen. I loved hearing about her.
I hope you might help me a little further, as I think I may have been led astray. I heard in another documentary that the letter to the Hittite king was written by king tut’s wife after his death, rather than Nefertiti. I obviously don’t have your access or research. Is It clear which queen wrote to the Hittites?
Second question: I’ve heard the theory that Nefertiti bust might be a forgery. As it is so much better preserved than many treasures from the time. What is your take on this? Do you think it has any validity?
