The original video was removed do to a copyright strike for using a 5 second clip of Cus teaching Tyson. It was removed by the channel Official Boxing Gods, Inc, who put the place to contact them to pay them for the footage from and center on their channel page and website. They are going after multiple channels, including Boxing Life and Legends of Boxing In Color, that I know of. Last year they tried to strike 5 videos but UA-cam told them no, stating "We believe your content is protected by fair use, fair dealing, or a similar exception to copyright protection." But for some reason they let them through this time.

I am doing everything I can to fight this and have the original videos put back up. The strikers have posted to complain about having their own videos taken down before, and the man who shot the footage in question, Steve Lott, was all about sharing his stuff for free before he passed. I've reported Official Boxing Gods, Inc for false copyright claims under "Harassment and Cyberbullying" and I encourage others to do the same, a well placed counter only seems fitting.
My grandfather said people watching TV back then wouldn't see Patterson Knocking people out because of his speed and the TV and cameras couldn't pick up his hands.
Floyd Patterson destroyed Archie Moore a lot easier and a lot faster with fewer punches compared to what Marciano did. 42+ year old Moore even dropped Marciano like a sack of grain. That proves Marciano is overrated. It's no wonder Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward said, *"Marciano was over-accomplished* (overrated). *He was too small. He really wasn't a Heavyweight. 5' 10" exceptionally short arms, very clumsy, cut easy, had troubled balance. The biggest overachiever in the Heavyweight division. 188 lbs was just too small."* Emanuel was simply stating the facts. Rocky fans are the 'ONLY' fans that don't believe size matters. If size doesn't matter why hasn't there been (and never will be) another 184 lb Heavyweight champion since little Rocky's little era 4 generations ago?

He was NOT calling Rocky "overrated". He even said just shortly after that kronk gym had more pictures of rocky up than they had of ali. he said rocky was the greatest achiever of all heavyweights.

"Marciano’s style definitely, he wouldn’t have made it today because when you don’t have size you make up for it with speed and he didn’t have the best speed, either. He came along at a time when there were still good heavyweights. I don’t think he gets the credit for what he should have gotten for fighting the guys like, even though Marciano was fighting (Ezzard) Charles when Charles was a little past his prime he was still a good tough fighter. I look at Archie Moore, when he knocked out Archie, I think Archie came back and went on another winning streak and really he had never even lost the light heavyweight title. I think he was the epitome of what we call just an “overachiever”. When I was at the Kronk Gym, we had big posters pictures of Marciano and no one could figure out why because he wasn’t considered a great, but when you looked at his record and you looked at his accomplishments regardless of what, all you can do is be the best of your era. I think of his era, he fought and he beat the best but the fact that he was a small guy, not that well coordinated, short arms, had so many different physical handicaps and went on to do what he did through just unbelievable training and conditioning and great one punch punching power. So you have to respect him for that, and there was nobody of his era that he dodged. He just couldn’t find anybody who was a great fast fighter so he did what he could do for his era-beat everybody who was out there. I think he was a much smarter fighter than people realize, too, in his own little short of way. I studied films of him, I would see him like get into a move and look like he’s going to move into a little clinch and just when he’s about to touch each other he changes in there with a short left hook, and he would sometimes look at your body like he was going to throw his right hand or jab to the body and then throw the right hand right over the top, but he was very cute and smart in his own ways because he knew he was handicapped in other areas. I think his punching power and conditioning were phenomenal. You look at the knockouts of (Jersey Joe) Walcott-one punch in the thirteenth round after losing and being knocked down, and then to come back with Archie Moore after being on the deck with Moore, who was still a good fighter, and came back and knocked him out, and then the cut, nose torn completely apart with Ezzard Charles and they told him they were about to stop the fight and he just comes storming out and scores a knockout over that. So you had to have a lot of respect for that. And he created the word “Rocky”. He made it have a lot of value because for particularly the Italian fighters the kid coming up, even today, a lot of them feel he’s still their hero because he had more impact I think as a champion, in particular for the Italian kids and the white fighters, than any fighter probably maybe that I know of in history because of that unbelievable one punch punching power and his image for being in unbelievable condition.

My favorite fighter and probably the most underrated and disrespected champion ever. People don’t realize how impressive Mr. Patterson’s career accomplishments are:
- 55-8-1 with 40 KO victories
- Olympic Gold Medalist
- Golden Gloves Champion
- First 2x Undisputed HW Champion
-2nd youngest HW champ in history(only beaten by Tyson)
- First HW to regain undisputed title
- First HW to regain title from the same opponent
- Multiple professional victories in two different weight classes
- More recoveries from knockdowns than any HW champ
His supposed glass chin and lack of power are both myths imo. He got dropped more than any HW champ but also got up more than anyone else. Liston, one of the hardest punchers I history, had to practically kill him twice because he refused to stay down. He had a career KO rate of 72%, almost the same as Liston’s 78% finish rate. His KO of Ingemar Johansson in their rematch is an absolutely vicious knock out.
If he had stayed at LHW or fought when Cruiserweight existed he’d be the GOAT of either division. Even if you don’t consider him an all time great HW, his accolades and overall accomplishments make him an all top 10 P4P fighter.

A bad loss can affect a fighter's legacy. Frazier's legacy could have been affected by the Foreman annihilation but beating Ali in 71 and the thriller in manilla sealed his status. Floyd never really got the redemption he deserved after what Liston did to him.

Unfortunate really, as I do believe he was cheated out of that redemption when he was arguably robbed in his title fight against Ellis. Could have been the first 3x heavyweight champ. But history seldom remembers close fights and robberies, just wins and losses.
Also should note that even past his prime & with a bad back he still made good fights with the same competition that Ali/Frazier were going up agenst.

I just love Patterson. Not only as a Fighter but also but as a humanitarian. e.g. even if he lost against Sunny Lyston he was one of the first to go and comfort Sunny when he lost against Ali.
I’ve read a biography on Floyd as well as his own autobiography and I’ve gained even more respect for him. He was one of the few decent honest men in a business full of scumbags.
He refused to fight in front of segregated crowds almost a decade before Ali did. Despite their love/hate rivalry I think Ali really respected him and took some inspiration from Floyd regarding his activism. Floyd was the only person he let call him Clay his entire life…

Something else worth noting is how small Floyd Patterson was as a heavyweight. He punched well above his weight.

the peek-a-boo style has an extra degree of swagger to it. standing right in front of your opponent most of the time, in range of the end of their punches, and either, not getting hit or rolling back with the punch until its ineffective, is pretty high on the objective scale of bad assery.
It reminds me of what the thais used to consider as the perfect traditional muay thai style; perfect form and technique meant standing toe to toe with your opponent and conducting yourself in a way where your opponent couldnt move you back or shake your balance no matter what they threw at you, you should make him move.
to wit; a fight i can remember that is a good exemplar of this is Buakaw vs Nieky Holzken No.1.
people can look at it and say "there's not a lot of sophistication in standing in front of your opponent like a rock". they might appreciate the mastery of this style more if they tried to do the same while a man who cuts down trees with his leg tries to drive his foot through their torso.

Great breakdown patterson never got credit for his skill or his heart. He fought liston a person every boxer was afraid of and was told not to fight him but he did whilst being doubted by everyone around him even knowing he'll lose he fought because he understood the sport and knew if liston won he deserves it. which cannot be said about fighters today cherry picking and avoiding we need more pattersons
The man never stopped he carried on fighting having close fights against younger men thats a champion.
i do think amir khan kind of resembles him,was good,dropped alot,yet also fought higher opponents and lose,but didn't matter for them.

Even in this old film clip, it's clear Floyd Patterson had faster hands than Ali. Just being objective. Ali was fun also.
Imagine him today fighting at LHW. Would be real interesting. At HW, he was a well above average hitter in terms of power. At LHW, he’d be a certified banger, and combined with that crazy speed - he’d be a LHW version of Tyson.
If Sonny Liston didn't exist, I'm not saying Patterson would've stopped Ali's rise but he would've put up a much better fight than Sonny against him imho

YES!!! Ali vs Patterson 2 is one of my favorite fights ever! Tons to learn from both fighters in that match. A lot of people forget Floyd was actually winning on the judges scorecards before the stoppage.
patterson and tyson are definitely different. if mike tyson landed all the punches that patterson does not only would his opponent be unconscious but reduced to pink mist that drifts out of the arena.
Tbh tysons powers is pretty overrated. Everytime he would knock someone down they would get up, minus frazier, but floyd knocked out plenty of people bigger than him out cold

WOW so I know almost nothing about FMA and I looked up some demonstrations and you’re actually right!!! Footwork and creating angles for attack and defense actually gave some similarities!!! Plus it seems like knife and stick strikes are thrown in high volume combinations. Never would have guessed that! Floyd Patterson with a single staff and dagger is a scary thought.

I love this channel so much David. You've given me a real gift, a passion for boxing and boxing history. My son is 10 and we watch your videos together and the other day I caught him shadow boxing in the yard.
When Tyson fought like this putting fast yet powerful punches together he was unstoppable. It was so fun to watch. Him loading up off his first shot to really hurt them and if needed to finish them with the third.
Am not an expert in boxing but It looked like Patterson is controlled the rhythm from the start. 😮

Friends don't let friends get their nose broken using peek-a-boo. Cus needed generational talent to get a belt on it. Even Torres, being his least known fighter, was a rare specimen of human anatomy. All of them get back problems and fade early because of the physical abilities you need to pull it off. Steal off Beristain fighters.

I agree for the most part. Like the video showed, Floyd was always at his best when he mixed in Peek a Boo head movement and footwork with a more conventional boxing style.
He could mix in the Peek a Boo footwork and head movement to set up angles or to get inside safely while using a more traditional bladed stance and still fighting behind his jab on the outside. His 2nd fight vs Johansson is a good example of that blend.
@@impulse_xsI just wish he would have been pushed more into a bladed stance heavy style to cover his chin. I also wish Cus would have not been so fixated on every fighter being a heavyweight. If he would have had Floyd fight at light heavy, where he belonged, he'd be a GOAT. Instead he gets coopted as a footnote in a bunch of people's histories. It's like what happened to Moorer, except Moorer did it to himself.
@@zwoope agreed he’s the most consistently underrated, overlooked, and disrespected fighter maybe ever. If you look at his career accomplishments he’s a top 10 P4P fighter imo. Sadly in his prime HW was the only real money division and Cruiserweight wouldn’t exist for another 20-30 years. He’d easily be the GOAT at LHW or Cruiserweight. He had a much more complete skill set and was a more versatile boxer than Tyson imo. His combo of skills, size, and speed would be deadly against smaller guys. A guy his size would be a big tall LHW even by today’s standards. He could’ve definitely adjusted his style to lighter divisions and utilized his physical gifts more.

Damn I love your channel! Your breakdowns are so good. Cus D’Amato taught the gazelle punch better than any trainer. Tyson used this technique a lot to open up his opponents also. And Roy Jones Jr. made a whole career KO’ing with this technique.

Unless you’re short 😂and built enough then it’s easy to keep up even when your older. Most movement is from the upper body not legs so the stress is lighter than Roy jones jr style for example. Jumping around like that at older age must be more taxing on the body than staying low

Requires insane cardio to last more than 3-4 rounds too. Floyd had maybe the best gas tank of any HW champ. Mike relied on early finishes to avoid that issue and it worked until it didn’t. Not surprising that they’re the two youngest HW champs in history.

Floyd reminds me of Joe Calzaghe to watch rather than Mike Tyson, I know the peek-a-boo style links Floyd and Mike, but they look very different in the way they use it.
I still don't get the idea of a wider stance delivering more power. I deliver more power with better balance in a tighter stance. Even in the cases showed, I see it being used more to extend the reach of the user, often to get the opponent by surprise with the sudden change of reach from someone who's body didn't get closer

I guess the idea is the a wider stance allows you to bend at the knees more so you can sit down on into your power punches more? But like you said, it looks more like it’s being used to cover distance here.
Tyson and Patterson had faster hands vs Ali due to the shorter distance and Ali having speed at a distance. Different styles. Tyson would be slightly faster than Floyd and had tremendous speed going in, but its hard to judge as both were tremendously fast

No shame in a much smaller guy losing to one of the best and hardest hitting champs in history. The fact that he refused to stay down is insane. Liston could’ve killed most people with a beating like that.

Sonny Liston was basically his worst nightmare matchup wise. Sonny was 6’1” 220lb with an 84” reach and prob the hardest jab in history. Poor Floyd was a 6’ 190lb “heavyweight” with a 72” reach who moved his head a lot and threw long combos on the inside. Just a bad matchup. By the time he was in his early 30s his style had taken a bad toll on his back.
He’s got 8 career losses.
- 4 of those were controversial decisions that REALLY shouldn’t exist. One is a very questionable split with Joey Maxim at LHW
- His loss and draw with Jerry Quarry, plus his loss to Jimmy Ellis are three of the worst decisions in the sport’s history.
- His other 4 losses are 2 KOs by Liston and 2 losses to Ali the HW GOAT. His rematch with Ali was at age 37 and he was winning on the judges scorecards until the referee stopped the fight due to an eye injury.
If he was never robbed by the judges against Quarrey he would’ve been the first 3x HW champ.

Why would you make a bait thumbnail as if Patterson and Tyson ever fought?
I think it’s more to do with the fact that Floyd and Tyson are similar fighters from the same trainer/gym and have fairly similar styles.

Pretty sure it’s just a reference to the fact that they are from the same gym/trainers and the fact that many people consider Floyd to be kind of a “Tyson 1.0”. Floyd had his own distinct style and skill set though.
