- Just a few months after their first controversial fight, Mike Tyson and Donovan Razor Ruddock were ready to go at it again. Both men, along with many in the general public, felt that the first fight had been stopped early. And so, the two warriors would face off one more time to see who would have the opportunity to challenge Evander Holyfield for the heavyweight championship of the world.

I love that both men smiled and embraced at the end of their fight. Really shows how much respect they had for one another.

I think this might be the most underrated part of Tyson's career. He bounced back from the indignity of Tokyo Douglas, and had a two-fight classic with the only other person at the time who could claim to be "The Baddest Man on the Planet"
Yea he doesn't get much credit for his resume in general but he beat 6 title holders, Holmes, Ruddock twice, and Spinks who never lost to any other man. I think that's pretty darn good

This Tyson still was not the same from when he was with Rooney. Prime Tyson would not have taken all these shots, what made him exceptional in my opinion was his defense along with his ability to finish

@@zach-iq9xy I whole heartedly disagree with that statement. I was a boxer and my boxing path and ippos have a massive overlap and correlation. I can relate to the training, the dedication, and the different types of opponents he had to face. And I also get that it's a inspired work of fiction.

Amazing chins and heart on both of them. A lot of casuals write Tyson off as simply a “knockout guy” and don’t understand his footwork, his head movement and his timing. Ruddock took shots that would leave most mortal men in a coma and kept standing. Great fight and a brilliant breakdown.

@@MaddSteppa Ruddock hit Tyson with Punches, that would have knocked out Holyfield and Bowe and Lewis and Foreman! but Tyson did not cover up at all and punched back! Neither of them threw alot of Punches! Tyson just threw and landed a little more punches than ruddock did! ruddock put on about 27 to 30 pounds after the weigh in, or this fight! At that weight! a fighter can not throw that many punches? If ruddock was not so bulked up! He would not have lasted 12 rounds

Ruddock was a beast. I’m a huge Tyson fan, watched every fight live on HBO with my grandpa. I was rooting for Tyson but I knew Ruddock was a great boxer that could pull the win if it went to points. That was a nerve racking fight, great memories.

Ruddock had a great jab and excellent movement. But it seems like he never fully combined Ruddock the boxer with the great jab and Ruddock the power puncher. Couldn't there have been a version that melded the best of both versions? Or were those two versions of Ruddock irreconcilable?
That's a great point! If he outboxed opponent's and then started using his more powerful punches (which had worked for him before) or if he had mixed in power punches with better, cleaner set ups I think he would have had more success.

For me this is Tysons last fight in his prime. When he came out of prison he was a mess. He hardly trained and was very unfocussed. In his prime years Tyson officially went 41-1 after that the rest is history.

Wow. Remember when a heavyweight non-title fight was a PPV headliner? This was another time. Heavyweight boxing in the 90’s was king.
yep, they say 70s is the golden era, but really the 90s is king and the true golden era followed 2nd by the 70s with the 80s in 3rd place!...... the 80s is much better era than people say! fighters like page, holmes, tyson, spinks, berbick, thomas, witherspoon, tucker, douglas, bruno, williams, biggs, tubbs, holyfield, foreman comeback, tillis, ruddock, james smith, weaver, cooney, dokes etc etc........ the 1980s might've been better than the 70s.... the 80s was extremely talent rich!...... but tyson haters love to say he fought in the weakest era in history😂.... when in actual fact, he fought in the 2nd or 3rd greatest era in history...... and tyson won 2 major belts in the golden era 1990s after a 4 year lay off, which is unprecidented!
This fight wasn`t PPV in the UK, you just had to buy sky TV network and not pay any extra to watch the fight but now every fight is PPV in the UK so no boxers get the exposure that Tyson had back then.

Absolutely, I miss these times for sure. I grew up watching Tyson fight as a kid. In my eyes nobody compares to Iron Mike Tyson. The power and the knockouts ruined me lol. I remember we had a black box to get all ppv free lol. I loved boxing as a kid and I still do. Watching Mike fight though was one hell of an experience. Tyson vs ruddock 1 and 2 were both great fights no doubt. If cus wouldn't have passed away or he would have stuck w rooney Mike would have been unstoppable. Hands down my favorite boxer power puncher of all time.

Ruddock was underrated. If only the ref let the 1st fight go on for a few more seconds, we would have had Tyson- Holyfield at a better time.
Although not a prime mike tyson, he would have done better, if they fought after the 1st fight against rudduck i think mike would have had the heart to go to the end, because just see the constant punishment he took from razor
If Tyson had fought Holyfiled in 1991 I highly doubt Holyfield winning, especially with the head movenment and dipping in and out of range Tyson did back then. He was bascially unstoppable. Remember Tyson had only been out of prison for a year when he fought holyfield and he'd been in prison for 3 years by that time.
@@flare3854 also Tyson's head movenment was such better in 1991, his better tactics and he moved in and out of range with brilliant timing compared too 1996-7. Therefore reducing the amount of Holyfields punches that would land and making it harder for Holyfield too clinch

David Jaco showed the formula to beat Razor. You tire him out and then overpower him in the clinch during dirty boxing time. It helped that Jaco was a lot taller and could do the Tyson Fury "lean on your opponent to sap his strength and throw a monster overhand" move which Tyson did not have..
But Tyson and Morrison both showed what getting inside and delivering a crushing lead left hook could do

Jaco beat a skinny, inexperienced Ruddock, Razor was a top heavyweight in the early 90s, the fights with Tyson definitely took a lot out of him, he looked quite rusty in his next 2 fights. Lewis and Morrison ended up beating him after this.
This was an intelligent brawl. Very different from what we saw last night with Amanda and Juliana. They literally planted their feet and flailed like middle schoolers that had never been in a fight. No head movement. I was excited yet confused by Amanda's decision to do that
I was yelling at the tv: "Move your damn head!!!!" LOL honestly looked like Amanda was drained from the weight cut, her face was pale!!

Great commentary on a great fight. Thank you. The fight IQ of both of these fighters was off the chart. And the way this channel narrated the shifting strategy really made it seem like you were watching the more physical version of a chess match.

Razor’s defense was too lax. Hands down acting like one shot was going to take Mike out and when it didn’t he stood there with no answer and waited for mike to counter unleash. Not a good game plan at all.

My brother was a sparring partner of Buster Douglas, so 2/11/90 was a great fight to watch live. My brother has since passed away, but still love watching these old fights. Great analysis on this one!

I think that in youtube you are the only channel who have made fight breakdowns in an epic, and articulate way that even casual boxing fans could understand. Videos like these are very entertaining, and these type of videos can only be found in your channel. This is the reason why I subscribe and for me these type of videos made your channel unique from the rest. I never thought that I could watch fight breakdowns in an entertaining and exciting way until I find your channel. I hope you can make more videos like this (epic fight breakdowns), and I do not care which fighters they are as long as you are the narrator as I know that the fight breakdown would be incredible to watch. So far my favorite fighg breakdown video from your channel is Sugar Ray Leonard vs Thomas Hearns. That fight breakdown is incredible and very bingeable just like a movie. In an alternate history if they had just had one fight, Tyson would have fought Holyfield at that point and I highly doubt Holyfield winning, Tyson was in prison for 3 years before the Holyfield fight, he'd been realised from prison a year prior and especially with the head movenment and dipping in and out of range Tyson did back in 1991. He was bascially unstoppable.

@@chiarosuburekeni9325 Complete lies. Holyfield fought Tyson when he was washed up. Holyfield would have lost by vicious knockout had they fought earlier.
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 You're right. Before their first fight and after his jail time, Tyson had come back and simply tore through the heavyweight division. He was far from washed up in the mid 90s. Holyfield just had the ability to stick and lean on him in order to neutralize Tyson's movement and sap his strength. He also took cardio training more seriously than Mike which gave him the edge in the later rounds
@@Ontonaut that's just untrue, why would you lie on something so easily debunkable, Tysons head movenment had bascially competely gone by 1996. Tyson could easily go 15 rounds in his earlier career, now he was tiring much quicker. In this fight if you watch against a guy with a much longer reach than holyfield, a much bigger frame and not adverse too clinching, it's not happening even close to the amount holyfield was able to pull off and when the clinch is released Mike looks fresh, even a little rested. Tyson didn't pull in and out like he does here, he became a head hunter by 1996 instead of aiming for the body. Which is the reason he seems top of the game after he came out of prison, because you need to be exceptionally skilled like holyfield to not get hit by a few of them.
These were Tyson’s best fights. First fight March 91’ second fight June 91’.

The Smash, is in the front foot..
Pay attention to how his left foot generates al the weight when he loads up the punch.
When he lets go of the punch, he pushes of the back foot. And everything that is in the left leg, is jumped in to the punch.
The left foot also leaves the canvas when the right foot touches the canvas.
That is what creates a chain whipping haymaker of a real life Sendo smash-uuuu!!!

Dirtier than TYSON v. HOLYFIELD 2? I doubt it. We know of Tyson's biting fouls but at the time, few mentioned Holyfield's dirty tricks, but that later started to change.
Watch freeze frame of Holyfield he clearly head butted Tyson. Mills Lane was in on it as a friend of Evander.

My boxing coach told me a story about one of his fighters who fought Tyson in amateur's. First round he realized he was immensely outmatched, and was going to get ko'd. Richard Lord (my old coach) told him to take a knee when the next round started. Tyson squatted down super low, and threw a left hook at the back of his elbow supporting his weight on the ground breaking it. I feel like he realized he couldn't get away with stuff like that if he wanted his pro career to continue. Armature Tyson gave no f***s.

Dispells the myth that Tyson couldn't couldn't come back from adversary , also believe their 2 fights ruined razors chin. He is very unrated. Would have liked to have seen him fight Holyfield before the Tyson wars.

Great video!! I would have picked Tyson, at this stage, against Douglas,Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe and Foreman. I think he was obviously troubled and slipping but still the best in the division at that time. The boxing media, for what it's worth, also had him as number 1 at that time. There's a lot of revisionist history with regards to Tyson, and the Ruddock fights are overlooked when they shouldn't be.
Even in this fight he was missing a lot of head movement. If only he would have been disciplined enough to stay committed, he would have been even better than he was
Holyfield, Foreman and Bowe would beat Tyson 9 out.of 10 times imo, Holyfield just has brilliant boxing and a granite chin and no fear at all, Bowe could box really well and was big as hell, and foreman... Just watch the Joe Frazier fights, Tysons style is made for Foreman to beat, but prime Tyson certainly can beat Lennox since Lennox has a suspect chin and guard, which prime Tyson would capitalize with his speed and head movement that he didn't have when he fought Lewis.

Bowe and Foreman would get countered easy because they are slow, if Tyson would box them both instead of getting in a slugfest, he can beat them. Holyfield I believe would give him the toughest fight since he can box better than foreman or Bowe. Bowe did beat Holyfield, but because Evander decided to get into a slughest with him.

Can I request you do a breakdown of the first Nigel Benn/Chris Eubank fight? It’s one of my favourite fights of all time and an intriguing clash of styles where they came in with genuine spite for each other and left it all in the ring
To be honest Chris Eubank outboxed Nigel Benn unequivocally in their first fight. The two fights between Chris Eubank and Michael Watson are far more interesting. the first one being controversial is worthy of analysis.

There were many more classic heavyweight fights during the mid 80s through to the end of the millennium, and these sort of fights just show how shit the division is these days, in comparison.
I'd give Tyson Fury half a chance against the boxers from this period, but people like Anthony Joshua would more than likely get battered to be honest. At the end of the day though you never can tell when it comes to the heavyweights because 1 punch can win the fight 👊🥊👍

@@zach-iq9xy that's a terrible way to judge boxers, two very different fighters, fighting someone who fights a very different style. Not just that one after two fights with Tyson, which will have definitely softened Ruddock up especially judging by his record after tyson vs beforehand. Let alone Ruddock saying his hardest fight was Mike Tyson. And actually Tyson and Lewis fought each other in sparring when they were younger and Tyson mauled Lewis, Lewis said he did well in one and Mike beat him in the rest this was over 5 days of sparring each other and Mike Tyson is younger than Lennox Lewis. By the way just to show this is not me being biased Holyfield fought both Lewis and Mike Tyson and said his hardest fight by a long way was Qawi, so neither of them two and he implied George Foreman had a stronger punch than Mike Tyson.

Yep without jim jacobs and cus d’amato he pretty much just became a head hunter looking to land a big punch vs before when he would use his great head movement to make guys miss and get inside

I Think Robinson would be at a huuge disadvantage because of his size.
Robinson wasn't a Heavyweight,Tyson never beat anyone great and SRR is the greatest of them all.

True the size difference is large but I think ray could tire him out. Ray had a great chin aswell so I think maybe ray could dance around and wear him out, then go for a ko rounds 8 or 9 maybe

And if politics hadn't kept him from the lightweight title altogether and then from the welterweight title for a bit he'd have even more accolades. His win ledger is insane; he was 128-1-1 at one point in his career.
In an alternate history if they had just had one fight, Tyson would have fought Holyfield at that point and I highly doubt Holyfield winning, Tyson was in prison for 3 years before the Holyfield fight, he'd been realised from prison a year prior and especially with the head movenment and dipping in and out of range, and brilliant tactics Tyson did back in 1991. He was bascially unstoppable.
In an alternate timeline tyson wouldnt have fired rooney, and then the only person to give him a big challenge would have been lewis i think
His head movement was already gone by the 2nd Ruddock fight..Yes he flashed it at moments but as soon as Rooney left Mike's head movement was less and less
@@atticusstevenson5360 very true, I doubt Lewis would have either, as Lewis and Tyson had, had sparring when they were younger and cus was also their and Tyson trashed Lewis whike they were their Lennox won one of the sparring sections that were over 4 days

My only explanation I can give is that it's too easy to get passed off as accidental, going in for a punch, therefor easy for him to plan out. Not justifying Tyson doing the ear bite,, but the reason he bit Holyfield's ear is because he got sick and tired of CONSTANTLY getting headbutted. Lol

I think if Tyson would’ve been more wise through out his life, and kept training hard without doing any hard drugs, he could’ve been the best boxer in all history.
That's exactly how Cus felt. Mike had every natural gift, and Cus equipped him with superior technical skills and tactical knowledge.
The only question was character and inner strength, and he depended on Cus for that. Because when Cus was alive, Mike was dedicated, disciplined, tough, humble, and honorable.
And I don't see anyone beating that version of Mike Tyson, except possibly 1960's Ali due to his speed, stamina, reach, and ability to punch going backwards. Imagine a trilogy of 80's Tyson vs. 60s Ali... it would have been TEN times better than Ali-Frazier in the 70s.
@@stringtheoryguitars4952 I agree, Cus held him on the right track while he was in his prime, then after Cus died, he started to get lost in the money and fame, until he ended up in debt and with a major skill decrease.
Which would win in a match, prime Ali or prime Tyson, is a question I’ve always been asking myself. But if I had to guess, I’d say Tyson would win. Ali had great stamina, he could go a lot of rounds and still be fresh, but I think Tyson would manage to tire him out with his aggressive style, while not doing anything much different then what he usually does. But idk, that’s just what I think, boxing can be pretty unpredictable so literally anything could happen.
He didnt freeze Tysons head movement, Tyson didnt have any head movement at this stage of his carriere.He has left Rooney, he stoped practicing peek-a-boo and became nothing more but a head hunter.His boxing skill has already detoriated significantly at this stage of his carriere.If he faced Ruddock in his prime, wich was under Rooney, he would destroyed Ruddock in 5 rounds.

I don't think Tyson would have destroyed Ruddock inside 5 rounds. Ruddock the boxer would have given Tyson a lot more problems. He was loading up on the smash in both fights.
