@@robbillington1982 Yes, you are right. I wished that I had him as my teacher at the actorsschool. But I want to talk about "today", funnily Laurence Olivier made a movie post-mortem, in SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW he appeared thanks to old material and modern CGI! Therefore it's possible that we'll still see more of him!
This movie was so good I saw it nights in a row back in 1976....The only other movie I paid twice to see was "Alien" because of the birth of the creature was so unexpected as it burst out in style..... the elephant man got something off his chest ....
Ironically, Olivier then played a nazi-hunter two years later in the "Boys From Brazil". His faces in the two films were completely different. Olivier was that rare actor who could play anything.
Wow, your right, he did play a Nazi hunter Then he played a rabbi in the movie Jazz Singer Well a.cantor. someone once told me he did porno when he was younger, but I don't think he did??
My dentist was in dental school when the movie came out. The students did root canals on each other. Before each procedure the student would ask, is it safe?

@@pale_saint You saw it yourself, pal: she kept poiting the finger at him and desperately yelling, not without a good reason, and still no one gave a darn.
Szell wasn't so smart. A rather fat headed fascist. He could have easily gone to a jewelry store in a non-Jewish neighborhood to find out the going rate on diamonds. Or had one of his henchmen find out. He sure took a big chance by going to an area like that ! But then that's the movies for ya ! Certainly makes for a memorable scene ! @ralphmacchiato3761 I am sceptical about him going into a Jewish district where he might be recognised, but I can see him not trusting a henchman with even a few diamonds.
@@JF.007 I would have thought that $90,000 for a single diamond is an enormous sum of money even by today's standards, let alone 1976. Szell isn't looking to buy, he wants to find out how much his diamonds are worth.

One of Sir Laurence Oliviers best roles, no question about that!
Not even a question buddy!
Totally agree!

Both (or better all three of them) "The Elephant Man" (aka Kane in "Alien") and "Marathon Man" are certainly worth seeing several times.
What a Beautiful Scintillating Performance by Sir Laurence Olivier...the Greatest Actor
Ironically, Olivier then played a nazi-hunter two years later in the "Boys From Brazil". His faces in the two films were completely different. Olivier was that rare actor who could play anything.
How true ! Well said and well put ! I have a notion to second that emotion !
Gregory Peck- one of the most heroic roles in "To Kill A Mockingbird", and then portrays Mengele.

That is the definition of true talent.
I doubt Laurence Olivier could've been Alonzo Harris...

Sir Olivier.....perfection as der Weiße Engel!

A master of Cinema Art
My dentist was in dental school when the movie came out. The students did root canals on each other. Before each procedure the student would ask, is it safe?
👍🏻😅
1976 he played a Nazi. 1977 he played Nicodemus, overall a talented actor.
oh, a central part of the scene in the first shop has been cut out: Szell reacted harshly impatiently to a dealer making small-talk to him.

a great interpretation from sir LAURENCE OLIVIE

Szell had actually no reason of feeling nervous: no way in hell a passer-by in NY would care of an old lady in distress, even screaming that loud.
Not even in the Gyuish quarter?
