the fact that she did her eingineering from some random college in sub-rural streets of kolhapur to now being ceo of chanel its honestly unbelievable, wow
Not a big deal if you're smart and an expert at what you do. I was born and raised in one of the top 5-6 cities in India. I studied in my regional language government school until 12th grade. I did my BE at a government college in a tier-2 city, which was 4 hours away from my home, since I couldn't get admission to my local universities and I didn’t want to attend self-financed colleges and pay high tuition fees. In 2009, I came to the US for an MS in Engineering, again choosing the most affordable university to save money (lol). I’m 39 years old and already an SVP at a Fortune 500 company, with over 800 highly educated people working for me around the globe. If I don’t start my own company and just follow a regular career path, people will probably see an interview like this 15-20 years from now, with me as the CEO of a huge company lol
@rrboss3721 😂 way to downplay someone else's success and assuming being smart and expert is all it takes. There are hundreds of thousands that have similar career path like you but not all end up as CEOs. But good luck to you!
She spoke a line in marathi, which truly reflected how comfortable she is in her skin and how proud she is of her identity. This was a very inspirational and informative interview!
Inspirational career growth, family life - BE Elec Engr, HR Head in Unilver, CEO of CHANEL - LEENA NAIR- many thanks to Stanford GBS- really a motivating video
She instantly connected. Such a positive vibrant energy. I feel a strong sense of confidence after watching this. I did my Post Graduation in Human Resource Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur and I work as a Makeup Artist in Beauty Industry. “Underplaying” part of the whole conversation is so incredibly inspiring. Thanks Leena for leading the way!
Wow..."lift as you climb" is the biggest takeaway for me besides so many other golden nuggets ... Extremely noticeable is how she so sweetly interrupts every question or asker with an appreciative nod or comment..she is a role model for EQ, Ambition, adaptability, humbleness, grace, confidence and curiosity..at its best. Learnt lots from this interview. Her concern for sustainability, her views on the role of AI for Chanel are also extremely well articulated and thought through.
I've loved every single word of this interview. Leena Nair; so gracious, intelligent, empathetic and so, so real. Truly, we need more leaders like that. I loved it when she said that she called Indra Nooyi after getting a call from Chanel, exclaiming Why me, and how she was chided. Just goes to show how authentic she is. Just no veneer. A great leader of my most favorite brand....truly befitting of carrying Gabriel Chanel's blazing torch ahead.
I like her principles. Very inspiring. Compassionate leaders are what the world really needs. Holistic approach is the right way at looking at things, caring for people, environment, heritage, artistry and keeping the right balance. She makes me dream of working at Chanel.
I just found out about her and she has become one of my greatest motivators while trying to puraue managing , i genuinely adored this interview! i learned so much and many thanks to the organizers and Leena herself, much love
This is so beautiful at all levels. What an amazing person Leena Nair is and I never knew or had read as much about her. Intelligent, graceful, genuine, humble, balanced, having her eyes on all the right things that we all collectively should aspire for! Thank you for sharing the interview! एक कोल्हापूर ची मराठी मुलगी मोठा प्रवास पार करून Chanel सारखा luxury brand lead करते आणि आपलं मराठीपण जपते ही फार सुंदर गोष्ट आहे!
Leena is fascinating, always learning, inspiring, growing, and lifting. I remember the first meeting in your office in HLL at Backbay Reclamation, Mumbai, in 1999, the last time in Bangalore airport, and some times in between. Not only do I remember what you said, but also how you made me feel. I know you remember 20,000 names and faces in Chanel, and you have not forgotten the names and faces of the people you have interacted with over 200 brands in 190 countries 30 years ago. Keep doing your best work. I have never dreamed of owning Chanel, but I will start dreaming now that I know your brand and business a little better. Thank you for being you.
An inspirational leader, positive and full of energy. She is never hesitant to get advice from mentors. A good choice to speak to a group of students. Loved listening to the interview. Thank you.
I am really astonished during watching this interview of this amazing amazing amazing woman that there is not a single like for this interview. Really inspiring lady. I want to say Thank You Stanford GBS to introduce this lady of motivation, inspiration, resilience.
There are lots of inspiration from this 1-hour session! Remind me that becoming a business leader has so much impact beyond the profit, but also the ability to make positive change to people and planet as well ❤ I also love how Leena shared her believes that help her navaigates all her career journey up to now, valuable thing to follow too! Thankss for sharing this session here!
I’m so happy I found this video, and I absolutely love it! It has inspired me to keep pushing towards becoming a CDO. Hope to meet you one day Leena. ❤🎉😊
ma'am you are commendable, i too have faced a lot of challenges when it came to moving outside home, it was never easy. being the only daughter in my family, sometimes we want to fulfill the expectations, sometimes we don't want to do whatever they say.. i see them talking about marriage so many times and somehow what they say, affects me. but seeing someone so successful as you, motivates me to keep going. thank you so much
Leena Nair's journey to the top of Chanel is truly inspiring. Her commitment to sustainability and innovation is refreshing to see in the luxury fashion industry.
Inspiring leaders throughout the time multiverse have exact same yet basic qualities which makes them stand apart as well give momentum for generations to come - humility, perseverance & hard work. Thanks stanford for this share.
You are a real hero for inspiring many, truely motivating, god bless you with the best of everything, excellent leader, people working for you must be very lucky to have you, a good boss always creates a good work place You are a star 🎉
Your emphasis on ‘never giving up’ and the importance of a strong support system really resonated with me. Your journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of diverse leadership. Thank you for sharing your invaluable insights. Kind regards from Argentina.
Wonderful work from both girls ❤ Leena very inspirational career indeed , very proud as a Woman in fashion business, of all your appearance , your total look , your way of moving forward is very promising not only for Chanel’s future , but also for all luxury goods business too, bravo 👏👏👏I wish one day to meet you in person ❤❤❤
My biggest takeaway from this in just 15 min into the video is "Shortlist should be balanced of talented women and talented men equally and then appointments should be completely based on Merits" amazing.
As a common man of our society, I can say this, “she showed signs of exceptional intelligence, excellence and star quality, right from her school days.” I have seen school buses full of students waving at her, & shouting, ‘Leena …Leena’, when they saw her cycling towards her home or school!!! 😎
i really sometimes wonder its just a luck that people get such opportunities to become CEO. I listened her completely, nothing is more than most of us don't know about. Confidence comes with a position. I do not think there is any skill other than hard work which makes people CEO. And most of the people do hard work in whatever position they are in. So I feel its entire luck how someone grows that much in profession.
You need to indulge in some introspection because it is not what she knows but how she puts to use what she knows, along with her emotional intelligence, and her capacity to learn and reinvent herself that sets her apart. History is littered with know-it-alls who couldn't dig themselves out of holes they dug for themselves.
There seems to be concordance over a long term vision between Leena Nair- the CEO- and Chanel as a company. She seems to have planned her career with a long term view ( 30 years), at Hindustan Lever and Unilever. Chanel spotted the perfect match in her long term view and people-centered approach.
How do we know all these videos you put out are not scripted?? One really doesn't know anyone unless they spend time with them. So we need some revelations as to how does this video give us an authentic view into who she is.🙌
the fact that she did her eingineering from some random college in sub-rural streets of kolhapur to now being ceo of chanel
its honestly unbelievable,wow
She is brilliant. To add - she did her engineering from Walchand college, which was renowned one
She went to a top management college though
She did her engineering from Walchand College of Engineering which is at Sangli, Maharashtra and is a renowned engineering college.

From Kolhapur to the UK, from a small town girl to CEO of such a luxury brand, your journey is truly inspirational!
She spoke a line in marathi, which truly reflected how comfortable she is in her skin and how proud she is of her identity. This was a very inspirational and informative interview!
I agree! As someone who's from Mumbai - my face lit up when I heard her compliment Ayesha in Marathi! VERY INSPITATIONAL!
Inspirational career growth, family life - BE Elec Engr, HR Head in Unilver, CEO of CHANEL - LEENA NAIR- many thanks to Stanford GBS- really a motivating video
How HR can become CEO? Its unusual.
Like she did lmao
She is a malayalee (from Kerala) who was born and raised in Maharashtra.

Insightful interview and about Leena Nair, her curiosity on anything in life is above level.

Luck is a big factor because not many CEO positions. But super motivation and many other ingredients must work out. Some are handpicked. Some earn it.
@@RamMohammadJosephKaur You sound like a Professor
