  • Proper nutrition is important when caring for any dog, but it's especially crucial for very small breeds like the Yorkshire Terrier. Full recipe here: topdogtips.com/...
Truth be told, they're a difficult breed to feed. But, this homemade dog food for Yorkies recipe will provide your terrier with the nutrition his small body requires.
"First, you'll need to pulverize the veggies in a food processor or chop them by hand. As you can see, I chose to use sweet potato, broccoli and kale. You can use any dog-friendly vegetables you have on hand. Possible substitutions include pumpkin, green beans, carrots or peas."

The small amount of garlic sometimes found in dog treats is unlikely to be harmful to dogs. However, if cats or dogs ingest a tasty pan of sautéed onions, garlic, or leeks, poisoning may result. The ingestion of large numbers of garlic pills or powder may also cause poisoning.

Here’s a recipe i used for my dog that works really well, they are so much healthier now!
    Ingredients:
    sweet potato
    Cooked unseasoned chicken
Brown rice (or white whichever you prefer)
Turmeric (i just eyeball it depending on how much i make)
    Cinnamon
just mix that together! works great for my dogs. And it doesn’t hurt to throw an occasional egg shell in there for some calcium 😉

Did you cook the veggies and rice? I’m presuming so but you don’t say yet said cooked chicken. Some are saying cooking the veggies is taking the good out but I’ve been cooking my dogs sweet potato for years.

Hmmmmm... Our vet said dogs cannot digest turkey and in particular, small dogs. She says that's one of the biggest mistakes pet owners make and when I spoke with her about making our baby's food she said that turkey and pork should NOT be given to Yorkies. You might want to check with yours if you haven't already. Other than that, fantastic recipe! Thank you for taking time to make it!

    • @rcracerusa

Garlic is only harmful in huge amounts. Just like it would be for humans. If you want to know more follow the vet Dr. Karen Becker. She has videos that address the garlic concern and talks about the study that concluded garlic was bad for dogs. What most people don't realize is that the study gave enormous amounts of garlic to one specific breed of dog. More than any sane person would ever eat themselves or feed their pet.

I have been doing this for my Yorkie after I noticed health issues like limping on her hind leg. That was 4 years ago. She is now 11 years old and she is more healthy than any dog I know at her age. Also, no more limping. Just to be clear, she limped for 6 months or more. Vets wanted to do surgery, feed her pills, and nutrition's wanted her on a vitamin regimens. after starting the real food by the suggestions I found on sites like this her limping stopped after only a couple of weeks. Tried going back to little ceaser and the limping returned. I'm sold on this. STOP FEEDING YOUR DOGS DEAD FOOD.

You should boil the chicken not roast or crock pot. you need to get the fat out, the fat is not good for them therefore cooking the rice in the juices is counter productive.

Excellent Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Parlandealey Pets Yummy Process (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering healthy recipes for dog food minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my BF at last got cool success with it.

Oh my gosh, watching a cat climbing on the kitchen counters after using a litter box is a deal breaker for me. I cant not make myself believe cat hair doesn’t get in your human food

It was all good until you cooked it. You killed off all the live enzymes in the raw vegetables. Plus garlic in a can don't contain allicin. And raw meat is good for dogs.

Absolutely raw meat.. Steaming the veggies I would have done as my shih Tzu will not eat them raw. And added Coconut oil(prevents Yeast buildup) and omega 3 oils.

My yorkie mix can't tolerate raw poultry. He gets nauseous on more than a bit of raw beef too. And dogs don't eat raw vegs in the wild. Most of their vegetative matter comes from the digestive tract of prey ( well broken down).

Dogs should not eat brown rice, their digestive trac is too short to process it. I have a Yorkie and would never feed them garlic or brown rice. And you should grind up the egg shells because they need calcium which is in processed dog food but not in home made dog food.

Why even add garlic? Aside from the fact that it’s not good for dogs to eat. You shouldn’t be okay that this video is on the Internet. People will use this recipe and harm their animal

Per AKC.org and www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2984110/---How much garlic is toxic to dogs?
Studies have found it takes approximately 15 to 30 grams of garlic per kilograms of body weight to produce harmful changes in a dog’s blood. To put that into perspective, the average clove of supermarket garlic weighs between 3 and 7 grams, so your dog would have to eat a lot to get really sick. --soooo I have done my research!!!!!
