Congrats on sub 4 min! Glad you were able to power through and redeem it after the infamous attempt

I love how after the "not holding right" mishap, in the successful run you can see on the controller input he's holding down that right button like his life depends on it.
"like his life depends on it" ??? lmao we can see he's holding the button down, that's it. it gives no info on how hard he's doing it

When you see a Karl Jobst thumbnail that says "It's Done", you know you're either about to witness the greatest gaming accomplishment ever, or someone did something extraordinarily stupid.
sometimes both
Or Silly Bitchell finally getting his due comeuppance
@@gaykittypirate like not holding right at the end of a WR or getting the worlds first sub 4:00
To be fair most of this is stupid, but in the sense of "go crazy go stupid" party type.
I'm hoping that one day, Karl will make an "It's Done" video where Silly Bitchell actually apologises to Karl for all the lies and trouble aswell as admitting to bare faced lying about those records....Doubt it though 😂
Jump king is a fantastic game! Actually incredible design. Thanks for covering it!
Vouch
Who would've guessed that kosmic loved jump king
I was wondering if you'd like it!
I bet Billy Mitchell beats the game in one hop
True I seen him do it 🤗
Fun fact: One of Billy’s lies about doing a perfect score of Pac-Man is that turning as soon as possible is a frame perfect maneuver. It isn’t, but just imagine him being asked to try a game that ACTUALLY needs that level of precision he brags about.
He actually starts the hop in 2nd gear.

Karl Jobst could read the phone book and I'd be captivated.
i feel you
He's one of the very few UA-camrs I actively follow and get excited for new videos from.
"How speedrunners completely dissected Phone Book"
“I didn’t even know you could do that in phone book until I watched his vid on it”
Phone book.......Ahh the good old days. Yellow Pages 😂👌💪
As much as I love to see the billy mitchell saga continue, I love seeing these achievement videos lately that destroy the silly notion that you only make drama content.
In fairness, for a long time, that is in fact all he did make because it made him money to do so. He said so outright and - you know, fine, get your bag and all, but I'm glad we're back here.
@4ac112 Did you notice Billy Mitchell's name in the Patreon Legends list at the end of the video? I wasn't even really looking at the list, but it kinda jumped out at me as I was about to switch to the next video. 😂😂😂
These have always been his best content
Achievements are what we want to see
Drama is what we have to see to have context to properly respect the community
Drama only gives people something to gossip about. You promote respect by highlighting boundaries and barriers that are overcome. It's why SummoningSalt remains pretty much the undisputed king of longform speedrun-related content. It's not just about the achievement; it's about the struggle to get there. No one talks about zallard1 picking shit up after his stroke, for example, but that's why more interesting of a story than 'this person that you already know is a scumbag did a scumbag thing.'
Also: it might be someone on Patreon that changed their name to Billy Mitchell for poops and chuckles.
I think one of if the best things about this channel is that Karl doesn’t just do his research and report, he really makes an effort to understand for himself and appreciate how these runs came to be, and then shares that feeling with everyone. It makes watching these videos a real journey and I love it.
Yeah, he actually tries to take the audience perspective. What does a time *really* mean?
he really could've done better with this one honestly. been watching Karl a long time but he misrepresented how precise this speedrun is
he insinuates the speedrun is insanely hard and precise, because of the incredibly precise *mechanic* of jumping. he completely ignores the fact the great majority of these platforms are big. like 30 pixels long at least. that creates a huge margin for error and he doesnt mention it even once lol he just misrepresents how difficult it is
@@_WeDontKnow_ I think you don't understand how where you land informs the margin of error for each next new jump which alters the total speed of the route and at worst means taking correction jumps even if you don't outright fail
He really does a great job at helping you to understand the mechanics of the run without devolving into a 3 hour chart party.
@@_WeDontKnow_ it's a "huge" margin of error... for a casual player. these aren't casual players. they're not just trying to jump from one platform to the next, for all intents and purposes, they're aiming at much narrower landing zones than the physical platoform itself. case in point, at the top of the tower, the platform is indeed quite large, lots of space to safely land without falling... but that's not good enough. trimp lands a few pixels shy of the trigger to end the game, even tho he's safely stood on a surface and not falling. the spot he jumps to, while safe, is not the correct spot. he might as well be falling, because that's how useful landing in that spot was to him.
karl absolutely does not misrepresent the difficulty of this speedrun, you just misunderstand why it's hard. he's not talking about the platform sizes because the size is totally irrelevant. when you're shooting at a target, yeah there's a lot of space, but the only part that matters to a sharpshooter is the bullseye. it would be ridiculous to apply your argument to a sharpshooter aiming at targets by saying, "but look how many red and white rings there are on the disc, what's so impressive when there's such a large margin of error?" that's the level of precision required for this speedrun. the metaphorical "red and white rings" around the target don't matter, only the "bullseye" counts if they want to win the record.

@@josh27oftoAnd so Jump King cast himself off from the highest peak in all the realms.
this is why I love Karl Jobst speedrunning contents he documents everything and how is it achieved he also explains the mechanics to his audience who doesnt know the game works and tries to play the game to better understand the game
We’ve got a Getting Over It minute barrier break video and now a Jump King one. Now it’s time for Pogostuck to complete the foddian trilogy. Although a barrier hasn’t been broken recently, the precise time saves and skips featured in the Pogostuck world records are insane.
I've never played this game before, but I knew the moment I heard 1 cycle that there was definitely a 0 cycle. The -1 cycle was kind of a surprise, but I love that speedrunners respect the history of their games enough to do goofy stuff like naming a trick -1 cycle.
omg i also totally called it thinking, "there's gonna be an earlier cycle, and i bet they'll call it the 0 cycle". the -1 cycle was like a plot twist!
I likewise expected to hear about a zero cycle, and when he was discussing the 35 frames of precision available for each jump, I immediately looked up the TAS and thought it would be a -2 cycle. I wonder now whether the WR will reach a -2 cycle; will any players be willing to spend hundreds maybe thousands of hours improving their precision to beat the final frame rule?
It's always great to see Jump King speedrunning in a video like this. Great video 🐂
Great Trimp player, a real jump king guy.

I have never heard of this game but the art style is hilarious to me. Some of the levels are these grimy, gritty buildings that would be at home in a soulslike, with this goofy bright primary colored character jumping through it. I love it.

Thank you for doing the game justice with your explanation! Great work!
3:57 as a super meat boy runner myself i quite appreciate this cameo
Still the best scrolling platformer with tight controls, now I want to go back to it! Trying no death runs in later worlds and dark worlds destroyed me 😭
never actually seen this game - love the art style
It's making me want to play Castlevania games
I'm no longer capable of doing anything even close to this, and when I had the twitch reflexes and the specific kind of patience it requires 60fps was a pipe dream, but I remember enough from my platforming days to appreciate how difficult this is without having even picked up the game. Kudos to Trimp for this accomplishment!
The passion Karl has for speed running is awesome.
He doesnt single anything out and celebrates all achievements and milestones... even if he doesnt get it at first.
Truly commendable.
00:34 you can see his hair line receding in this clip. Every failed jump is a single hair falling out that will never grow back.
Right now he looks awful with long hair. As a fellow balding you need to own it and not be in denial. You end up looking worse than just accepting that you're losing your hair. Buzz it short, shave it, etc. But long hair on a balding person... 😖
Ya know what Karl? YOU are an absolute legend. Keep it up!
been running jump king for a few years now. sub 4 was never even considered to be possible and was purely a meme. been awesome to see how this game has evolved to where it's now a reality. thanks for making this vid
I agree, as someone who never believed in the sub 4 it suddenly seemed possible when trimp got that crazy fast il time
Awesome video, incredible achievement. Of all the "rage games" I've played Jump King stands out because the level of precision it has means you can really feel yourself improving. It's crazy to see how the top runners can string together so many frame perfect jumps.
Hey babe, wake up! A new Karl Jobst video dropped...and it's not about Billy Mitchell!!!!!!! 😂😂😂😊😊😊
Babe: "Pfft fuck that..."
The amount of precision was unexpected in Jump King! Great stuff man loved this watch
I love your in-depth explanations of the games and mechanics before you actually get into the records as I wouldn’t have a clue how these speed runner do these feats.
I will never forget the time a viewer TTS’d CdawgVa the message “you’re going to get a copyright strike for playing “White Men can’t Jump” on stream.” Legends say CdawgVa never fully recovered
love the FTL soundtrack in the background
Shout out to all the speedrunners who do it fairly. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't seem important but it does show what ppl can do when they (a) focus on an aim and (b) build on the work of those who came before to achieve new records. The same mentality that got humanity to achieve great things.
this was awesome coverage. thanks Karl

Babe, wake up! New Karl Jobst Video just dropped!
4 straight minutes of frame perfect inputs is insane.
Hey Karl. Great video. I also have a video suggestion. It's called CSS surf. The insane mechanics and "feeling" the pros need to pull off is out of this world.
We got the Babe for good 🎉
Whenever I hear the two words "Jump King", the image of a grim reaper anime girl appears in my mind whilst exclaiming "JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE BOG"
she managed to finally after all these years complete that climb
Nice to see this game covered by you, Karl!
grats to mr trimp. this is a truly impressive feat of precision.
A similar rage game called a Difficult game about claiming is also getting close to Sub 4. But unlike Jump king, where hundreds of people have tried to chip down to the Sub 4 by adding new strats. The climbing games only top contender is a man named Clark who has the grip of a god. You only control the game with the mouse and Clark is literally bending his wrists in optimal positions to grind for Sub 4. It’s incredible. He’s getting close to the TAS.
If he eventually get sub 4 I wouldn’t be opposed to a video about it.
Bruh that skip in the first 2 seconds of this video to skip that damn jump in the green zone would have helped me so much 00:02
Glad to see you're looking a lot healthier lately! Hope you're doing well you absolute legend ❤
Hello Karl,

Thank you for the shout out and information.
Speedrunners: Caculate the frame, the distance in mere second then jump.
Me as an average Joe: *eyeball it
Jump King is a notoriously difficult game due to its precise jump mechanic. Speedrunners have been trying to break the 4-minute barrier for years. In 2024, trimp finally achieved this feat with a time of 3 minutes and 59.98 seconds. This run required near-perfect timing and precision throughout, making it a significant accomplishment in the speedrunning community. Absolutely amazing and wonderful explanation!

Actually, the 0 and -1 cycles had been known for a couple of weeks before both of those runs. That was just the first time both were performed in a successful run. Hedginald showed in a TAS that it could be done as well as the seemingly impossible -2 cycle. Gompi performed both to show they were possible along with a few players. All of them lost their runs to a mistake after. To give you an idea of how difficult the -1 is, Gompi and others only ever managed to achieve it once.
