      Drama only gives people something to gossip about. You promote respect by highlighting boundaries and barriers that are overcome. It's why SummoningSalt remains pretty much the undisputed king of longform speedrun-related content. It's not just about the achievement; it's about the struggle to get there. No one talks about zallard1 picking shit up after his stroke, for example, but that's why more interesting of a story than 'this person that you already know is a scumbag did a scumbag thing.'

      @_WeDontKnow_ 17 днів тому +1

      he really could've done better with this one honestly. been watching Karl a long time but he misrepresented how precise this speedrun is
      he insinuates the speedrun is insanely hard and precise, because of the incredibly precise *mechanic* of jumping. he completely ignores the fact the great majority of these platforms are big. like 30 pixels long at least. that creates a huge margin for error and he doesnt mention it even once lol he just misrepresents how difficult it is

    • @dopaminecloud
      @dopaminecloud 17 днів тому +4

      @@_WeDontKnow_ I think you don't understand how where you land informs the margin of error for each next new jump which alters the total speed of the route and at worst means taking correction jumps even if you don't outright fail

    • @Darkfyyre
      @Darkfyyre 17 днів тому +2

      @@_WeDontKnow_ it's a "huge" margin of error... for a casual player. these aren't casual players. they're not just trying to jump from one platform to the next, for all intents and purposes, they're aiming at much narrower landing zones than the physical platoform itself. case in point, at the top of the tower, the platform is indeed quite large, lots of space to safely land without falling... but that's not good enough. trimp lands a few pixels shy of the trigger to end the game, even tho he's safely stood on a surface and not falling. the spot he jumps to, while safe, is not the correct spot. he might as well be falling, because that's how useful landing in that spot was to him.
      karl absolutely does not misrepresent the difficulty of this speedrun, you just misunderstand why it's hard. he's not talking about the platform sizes because the size is totally irrelevant. when you're shooting at a target, yeah there's a lot of space, but the only part that matters to a sharpshooter is the bullseye. it would be ridiculous to apply your argument to a sharpshooter aiming at targets by saying, "but look how many red and white rings there are on the disc, what's so impressive when there's such a large margin of error?" that's the level of precision required for this speedrun. the metaphorical "red and white rings" around the target don't matter, only the "bullseye" counts if they want to win the record.

    A similar rage game called a Difficult game about claiming is also getting close to Sub 4. But unlike Jump king, where hundreds of people have tried to chip down to the Sub 4 by adding new strats. The climbing games only top contender is a man named Clark who has the grip of a god. You only control the game with the mouse and Clark is literally bending his wrists in optimal positions to grind for Sub 4. It’s incredible. He’s getting close to the TAS.
    If he eventually get sub 4 I wouldn’t be opposed to a video about it.

    Jump King is a notoriously difficult game due to its precise jump mechanic. Speedrunners have been trying to break the 4-minute barrier for years. In 2024, trimp finally achieved this feat with a time of 3 minutes and 59.98 seconds. This run required near-perfect timing and precision throughout, making it a significant accomplishment in the speedrunning community. Absolutely amazing and wonderful explanation!

    When I played Soma, I said "wow, they made a game of nothing but the boring parts of other games!" And for this I'd say "wow, they made a game that's nothing but the annoying parts of other platformers!" I expect I would hate it just as much. But then I'm crazy, I only play video games for fun.

    Another amazing video. I have never played Jump King nor do I ever plan to, because I know it's not for me and I'd probably kill a few Controllers along the way, but I love these videos anyway. Especially for old games like Doom, but also newer one like this one and the way Karl always describes how things work, sometimes in almost painful detail makes it so easy to understand that even people like me who have never played it can get it.

    Actually, the 0 and -1 cycles had been known for a couple of weeks before both of those runs. That was just the first time both were performed in a successful run. Hedginald showed in a TAS that it could be done as well as the seemingly impossible -2 cycle. Gompi performed both to show they were possible along with a few players. All of them lost their runs to a mistake after. To give you an idea of how difficult the -1 is, Gompi and others only ever managed to achieve it once.
