he really could've done better with this one honestly. been watching Karl a long time but he misrepresented how precise this speedrun is he insinuates the speedrun is insanely hard and precise, because of the incredibly precise *mechanic* of jumping. he completely ignores the fact the great majority of these platforms are big. like 30 pixels long at least. that creates a huge margin for error and he doesnt mention it even once lol he just misrepresents how difficult it is
@@_WeDontKnow_ I think you don't understand how where you land informs the margin of error for each next new jump which alters the total speed of the route and at worst means taking correction jumps even if you don't outright fail
@@_WeDontKnow_ it's a "huge" margin of error... for a casual player. these aren't casual players. they're not just trying to jump from one platform to the next, for all intents and purposes, they're aiming at much narrower landing zones than the physical platoform itself. case in point, at the top of the tower, the platform is indeed quite large, lots of space to safely land without falling... but that's not good enough. trimp lands a few pixels shy of the trigger to end the game, even tho he's safely stood on a surface and not falling. the spot he jumps to, while safe, is not the correct spot. he might as well be falling, because that's how useful landing in that spot was to him. karl absolutely does not misrepresent the difficulty of this speedrun, you just misunderstand why it's hard. he's not talking about the platform sizes because the size is totally irrelevant. when you're shooting at a target, yeah there's a lot of space, but the only part that matters to a sharpshooter is the bullseye. it would be ridiculous to apply your argument to a sharpshooter aiming at targets by saying, "but look how many red and white rings there are on the disc, what's so impressive when there's such a large margin of error?" that's the level of precision required for this speedrun. the metaphorical "red and white rings" around the target don't matter, only the "bullseye" counts if they want to win the record.

These are always great. Not only do they highlight great gaming moments, but Karl breaks these things down so those of us on the outside can understand it
Jump King is a notoriously difficult game due to its precise jump mechanic. Speedrunners have been trying to break the 4-minute barrier for years. In 2024, trimp finally achieved this feat with a time of 3 minutes and 59.98 seconds. This run required near-perfect timing and precision throughout, making it a significant accomplishment in the speedrunning community. Absolutely amazing and wonderful explanation!
I just gotta say when I stumbled onto your channel a year or two back I never Would have imagined I'd find the speed running history of various never even played so interesting especially for games I've never even played

Actually, the 0 and -1 cycles had been known for a couple of weeks before both of those runs. That was just the first time both were performed in a successful run. Hedginald showed in a TAS that it could be done as well as the seemingly impossible -2 cycle. Gompi performed both to show they were possible along with a few players. All of them lost their runs to a mistake after. To give you an idea of how difficult the -1 is, Gompi and others only ever managed to achieve it once.
You know... I really love that even in 2024, we can still love and appreciate, as well as create, new 2D and 8-bit style games that are loved by all. So many people are used to the` blazing incredible graphics, especially the younger generation, but I believe many of us have this nostalgia for the older games. Not saying the younger generations cannot enjoy them, it's just that we grew up with Mario in 8-bit and 16-bit, and they grew up with Super Mario Odyssey. It's EXTREMELY hard to compare.
Not familiar with this game, but this is a Karl Jobst video, so you damn well know I am going to sit here and enjoy this video like an absolute legend lol. Assumed to be impossible until a new strat was found as it was nowhere near close to be broken. And Shadows of Evil Easter Egg speedrun in 19:39. I can't begin to explain how incredible that speedrun truly is. All the best.

Glad to see you're looking a lot healthier lately! Hope you're doing well you absolute legend ❤
Hello you Legends!
No new tech. No game breaking exploits. Just people being awesome! Cool video.
A video about a game I never heard about is amazing. Love it
Never heard of this game before. Thanks for the video.
Karl you're one of my favorite youtubers. Every time you upload it makes me happy, so thank you! Have a great weekend! ❤
Not familiar with this game, but this is a Karl Jobst video, so you damn well know I am going to sit here and enjoy this video like an absolute legend lol. It's been a while since I was having a good day or even week when a Karl Jobst video comes out. Usually these cheer me up, but I am already in a great mood. This is just like icing on a cake lol.. Thanks Karl, for another excellent video you absolute legend.
It's always so cool to see niche games like this get covered, that's why i love Karls channel so much, it's basically my Speedrunning News letter! Catherine Babel could also use some attention, i am tired being like one of only 3 active runners 😂
Jump King is a very charming game, one of the highlights of the 2010s indie scene. glad to hear more about its speedrunning.
Hi karl, I'd love to see you cover Cod zombies again as two major major barriers were broken in 2 different sectors. The final round 100 on Black Ops 1 was finally solved. Assumed to be impossible until a new strat was found as it was nowhere near close to be broken. And Shadows of Evil Easter Egg speedrun in 19:39. I can't begin to explain how incredible that speedrun truly is. All the best.
That's a kickass scar you've got there karl
I love speedrunning community and i love hard work that you are doing for those people who dont understand how hard it is. Hundreds hours of grinding is really annoying. I hope someday you make video of my WR. Bless you
Jump King is actually my favorite game of all time 😅 I’m livestreaming a Zero Fall challenge on my UA-cam at the moment 💜
Thanks for the upload Karl
Hello Karl,
Super nerd here.
I'll always build my own PC.
Thank you for the shout out and information.
I just wanted to writw a word of appreciation that Karl actually takes the time to play the games he writes about :)
I actually would love more smaller, blank background rambles about your interests! Easy but fun watching
this was awesome coverage. thanks Karl
We live in such an incredible time to get to hear these stories from legends such as Karl.
Never heard or cared about this game, but glad to hear from you, Karl. Love your videos and learning about new games i've never played before. Keep up the good fight! UwU
About to go to bed then BAM Karl posts a video. Always ready to be called a legend!!
I could not imagine frame perfect inputs at 60fps, this is amazing
strange that as an example of a game with simpler jump mechanics, you would use Super Meat Boy, a game known for requiring very precise inputs, where like Jump King your jump height is based on the exact frame you let go of the button
nice vid karl u absolute legend keep up the good work :)
On the off chance you do see this Karl, thanks for making such great videos man.
Been watching for 2ish years now! Absolutely love your content bro, hope you’ve been doing well!
He won’t see this
Runs like these are truly insane. This run boiled down to basically 230 frame perfect inputs which doesn't even sound possible for a human.
Thumbs up for the FTL music in the background !
Congrats on 1 million, you LEGEND
