I was thinking the same thing. He should have also built a mine (could've had a cool flying machine based elevator with a security door), tree farm, animal farm (MEAT), villager trader.

Take the piston door for the living quarters.
Make wall of bookshelfs and the piston door with bookshelfs and you have the very classic library sliding secret door that we see in differents séries, movies, vidéo games, etc...
