When I first started playing I apparently didn’t realize that mining was part of the game, so for torches my sister and I would raid villages. This was a version in which the only chest was a blacksmith and villagers were useless, so the only thing that was taken from those villages was the wheat and torches. Also, I thought it was essential to get leather armor before any others as the starter armor, so I never really got anywhere in survival mode. Creative mode was my game, and I wasn’t great at building so it was pretty much just flying around finite worlds.

The two things I remember most about starting in minecraft:
1) I replaced my torches every day because I thought they would burn out
2) I never swam if I saw a squid because I thought they were hostile

I broke gravel with my hand because I thought it would function the same as stone?
I destroyed an entire village because I liked the wooden planks and didn't know how to get them.
I dug through stone with my hand and got lost in the darkness.
Died to pretty much every overworld mob on the first night.
That's what my first experience was like.
That last part about quitting out of lack of motivation and then returning to create an entirely new world is so relatable. I never want to revisit a world I left a long time ago because I can never remember if I quit out of boredom or if I quit after losing a bunch of valuable items.
When I first started, I was in creative mode, and screamed and hid in a dirt house when I first saw a zombie because I thought it would kill me. Then when I saw a mob spawner for the first time, I thought the zombies were having a ritual and were sacrificing a baby zombie lmao. I was like 12, so I didn't know anything about the game.

I still get a little bit of anxiety when I fly around mobs because I think the game would glitch out and I’d be switched into survival. 😅

I just remembered one:
When I first started mining sand, and came across sandstone, I though I found an undiscovered temple at the time. Dug out half the desert looking for a temple that was never there.
Wasn't for naught. I wanted the sand anyways.
I found a temple that had 4 chests , and a Pressure plate that I stepped on of course, and it blew me and the whole bottom of the temple to pieces !!! 😂😂😂 It's funny now, but I was freaked out then ! LOL

Also one of my first experiences was my first night outside of peaceful Mode
I spent the night in a cave that i lit up with torches. The entrance was blocked by a dirt Wall and a wooden door.
I had never fought anything in this game before so i was a bit afraid of all the Zombies out there.
I was minding my own Business when i suddenly heard a loud bang that scared the shit out of me.
To my horror i saw Cracks appearing on the door, with two green arms reaching through the wood.
I spent the next few nights behind a Tunnel of dirt with five wooden doors
When i first played Minecraft on my 2012 ipad mini 1 in 2015, i would make a “stone hut” with no way to get in it, filled the first layer with water, and spammed the sheep spawn egg.
I would do that on every single world i made. I never named them. World list:

My first experience in minecraft was that I thought creative mode would be a nice relaxed way to get used to the gameplay mechanics, then I immediately started near panicking about why I couldn't pick up any of the blocks I broke. Then I started flying and then realized I didn't know how to land. Then I spawned probably a few hundred cats and immediately regretted it because of all the noise. That was a fun day.
When i first got minecraft i tried to make an iron golem.

It took me almost 5 good years to realize there is something like ore in Minecraft and I celebrated when I found COAL ore
I was strip mining once and came upon bedrock. At that time, I had never heard of or seen bedrock. I looked up “gray and black ore Minecraft”, to find out it wasn’t some sort of rare and valuable mineral, but just bedrock.
Also, always make sure you let go of direction keys before stopping crouching, because you could run straight into a pool of lava. Later I found out about keepinventory, and played with it in that world ever since

When I first made a compass I did not know how it works so I through it in a garbage machine where you put it in a dispenser then it shoots it in lava on the other side.

When I first played minecraft. The one thing I can remember me and my brother trying to do, repeatedly, was attempt to hatch an ender dragon. Or a dragon in generally.
We used to watch all of these video’s and nothing seemed to work for us, our frustration at the game was hilarious, considering we were 8 and 10 years old.
It never did help that the eggs we were trying to use would kinda just disappear on us 😂
When i first started playing, I didn't know crafting existed. That made it quite hard fore to survive, because I was also stuck on an island with no trees. I also always played on peaceful because I was scared of the mobs.
When i was new i used to play on peaceful, but still made forts and protection against mobs "just in case"

When I started playing, I refused to play normal worlds, I only played superflat.
And even though I played the limeted size consle worlds, I still lost all my bases.
Probably harder in some ways because there's no geographic markers to guide yourself back

I remember that back when I started playing in 1.0, I had watched a lot of alpha/beta gameplay videos before... but never ingrained in my mind how to craft a pickaxe until I got the game. Also I still haven't gotten far past the Nether in terms of progression, I've gotten to the point where all I needed to start the stronghold hunt was ender pearls (in like 1.12) but sadly I've since lost that world
My first house in Minecraft was entirely made out of logs, because I didn't know that planks are also blocks, not just crafting materials. I used trapdoors instead of glass because I didn't know how to "craft" it. I couldn't find iron iron for a long time because I thought that this wasn't iron ore but clay
I used to think that hostile mobs turned into squids during the day. Then when I fell into a lake full of squids, I was so scared that I deleted the world.

i remember my first base being just bed with a furnace and a acrafting table with a large chest (which i for some reason felt proud of) near a lava pond. tat lava killed and saved me a lot of times
When I first started gathering wood to build a house, I gathered hundreds of wood blocks to build my house on my brother's world on Xbox 350.
*Then* he hit a break in whatever project he was doing at the time, realised how long I'd been at it, and told me that when you crafted them into planks you got four times as many blocks.
I tried to craft without a crafting table, I put three blocks of wool on top of 3 blocks of wood. I then tried to sleep on it

When I first started, If I didn’t get a bed before the first night, I would leave the game and completely abandon that world, so I had a lot of old worlds just gathering dust at the bottom of my thousands of worlds.
And I still haven’t deleted them
I had some basic knowledge of how to punch wood and craft the basic tools, but that was it. I sorta knew that there was armor, but I spent the first few months on a hilltop, underground, surrounded by a cobblestone "wall." (I didn't know wall blocks were a thing.) But, I think the most noob/embarrassing thing I did was to plant seeds on farmland, with no water nearby! I kept wondering why my wheat would get a third to halfway grown before the ground would just turn back to normal. I finally ventured down from my hilltop and hoed the ground by the water and was delighted (and felt pretty silly) when it turned dark and my wheat fully grew.
When i started playing Minecraft:
- During the night i was too scared to go outside so i buried myself in a hole every night.
- I was too scared to go mining in caves because it was dark.
- I didn’t know how to craft a sword so i hit mobs with iron thinking it would deal more damage.

My first time making an area for crops, i needed alot of water, and i didnt know about infinite sources, so i was running back and fourth to a lake(which was pretty far away), with one bucket, constantly worried that the lake would run out of water, i finally realized that i could have infinite water. I felt like an absolute genious
I had a friend who tried to make an aether portal in the early days of the mod before he knew about mods. I also almost switched to arrow keys instead of WASD because the flash games I used to play, if they had keyboard controls, often required me to move my character via arrow keys over WASD
I saw a creeper outside my house, 1 SINGLE CREEPER.
I immediately wore my diamond armors and equiped full diamond and gold weapons and tools(hoes, picks, axes, and swords).
I was in creative.
And till this day, I still remembered my house's design.

I'll never forget my first in-game night. After running around all day just looking at terrain, night fell and mobs spawned. I panic built a dirt hut, but had no torches, so a creeper spawned in my not-so-safe house and blew everything up. Very classic.

I tried to tame a dog with steak but the dog couldn't eat anymore. I ended up slapping the dog so he would eat more steak until the dog got pissed at me. I left the game out of fear. My sister asked why I wasn't playing and I told her about the dog situation so she killed the dog for me. Then she asked why I didn't just kill the dog because I had an iron sword. Hey, at least we learned.

I didn't make tools above stone other than pickaxes because I didnt want to waste valuables, I also only did leather armor.
When I first played Minecraft, it was the spring of 2013 and it wasn’t easy to know how to craft when I started. There were 100 blocks, worlds weren’t infinite, and in creative mode, all I could do was build, destroy, walk around, and fly. Boy was it fun.

Gearoid Garvey Well, Mumbo is really good at red stone. The only thing is he’s amateur compared to other people because of the fact that he cannot build. At least not on a pro level. And, when building stuff, redstone contractions play a big role but without building, it’s not as good as other’s work.

I doubt that Mumbo will see this, but I am proud to announce that after hours of playing Minecraft, I made an iron farm. I actually did really well in my world and I’m just so happy I have a permanent map I’m not tired of using. Your videos have been inspiring me to start making redstone contraptions now that I feel safe exploring mines. Thank you for creating this channel, because although a lot of your videos have been made for entertainment purposes, I have found them very educational, and I’m going to start building some complicated farms. Remember, I’m going to have a PlayStation Platinum Trophy strictly under your name, my guy. Obviously it will be my own, but you earned it too! Few years ago (in 1.12.2) I thought that by opening world to LAN will let anyone join the world without port forwarding and entering ip adress. Because of this I tried to make a town where me and any other people from across the world would live. Basically I was always alone xD
OMG ME TOO! I made a “shop” full of chests and made it of gold blocks. I sat behind my counter and waited, thinking that a player would walk in and buy stuff. I eventually got bored and made a rollercoaster
i found out there were minigames on console so i played console and played pvp and rage quit because other people kept killing me

Here’s something that I will never forget :
I was playing Minecraft with my older brother and we found a mob spawner but I was a new player so..I broke it- HE GOT SOOOOOO MAD TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS FUNNY
I very vividly remember my first base being a 5x5x5 wool block that was only 3x3x3 on the inside, not only that but it was in the middle of a ravine for some reason

Like Mumbo I started playing when Minecraft was still in Beta. However, I had watched several Let's Plays, most notably BananaPieLord and Seananners before my parents finally bought the game for me, so I had a good knowledge of most of the game.
My first build was a decent looking house (cobble walls, logs on the corners and wooden roof) but my second build was awful. I'd just done my first Nether trip and made a cube out of netherrack to use as a storage building. This was the time of the horrible pink texture too, rather than the new one.
Also I was so scared of mobs I'd made my Base 10 block above an ocean.

When I first got Minecraft, I would set the game mode to peaceful and creative. It was hard to discover that blocks don’t drop when you break them in creative. I played on peaceful and creative for a very long time. I didn’t learn about the nether for years!
i remember most that i used to think what item you have selected in your hotbar was random, i did not know the control and i sometimes without noticing hit the right top trigger (it was on console) wich swapped my item. I just did not figure it out for like 5 months.
That isn't nearly as bad as when I discovered that stone tools were made from cobblestone and not just stone

I once thought that smooth stone cannot be crafted with anything but cobblestone could be crafted with anything. And since all of the blocks dropped what it showed when first placed (if you know what I mean) I stupidly thought that in order to get cobblestone I had to stop minding right before it broke. So I had worlds with nothing made from stone for like 2 months before I finally figured out how it worked. To this day like 6 years later I’m still embarrassed
Dude I spent three real days straight trying to figure out why I wasn't getting the stone when I broke it with my fist.

5:58 this is how I built my houses in creative when I was still newer to minecraft in 2016-2017ish. my sister and brother would always build normal houses, meanwhile I had diamond and iron block houses
The stupid things I did in minecraft:
1.Wondering why there were villagers in a single player world
2.being scared of zombies in creative mode
3.making a block because I was scared

When I was starting the game... I opened a creative world, and went into the menu... I found this thing called “End Portal”, I thought that if there was an *END* portal, There’d be a *BEGINNING* portal

I used to think that I could just jump on to an end portal frame and I would be able to go to the end until, I learned that you needed to have a whole frame and put eyes of ender in to them
