I’m not sold on that recipe in the oven. I’ll try it, but I can almost guarantee that the the rice and or lentils will be undercooked. Everything should be soaked beforehand… and probably cooked for longer than 30mins. The premise behind the dish is great though..
I was excited to try this rice recipe, and just did. My experience from following the instructions: the wild rice was very much undercooked, to the point of being still "crunchy." And the dish overall also came out with a very soupy consistency, which was not what I envisioned. The flavors are good, but using wild rice and the stated recipe's time (25 min + 10 min cool/rest) and temperature (210C, (410F)), the rice is unquestionably undercooked. Just be aware if you're going to try this, you maybe need to lengthen the amount of cooking time by at least 5 or 10 minutes?
Ah that's a shame, 2 things I would try. 1. Brown rice instead of wild and soaking it in cold water for 10mins before draining and adding to the pan. 2. Make sure it's 210C fan assisted, it doesn't sound like the oven got to a hot enough temperature if it was 'soupy' as the water hadn't evaporated off. Hope that helps!
Love these recipes and chats!! Rice and lentils was our go to care several times a week from the 70s on! I bake in an air fryer now - this is a great twist! These days I tend to cook rice with the lentils for the first bit, then add quinoa and root veggies half way through! I'm also a big fan of sardines and other small bony fish!
Both of you are doing such amazing work - thank you! I had a great laugh at the interspersed clips. Pro tip - keep your knob of ginger in the freezer - it makes it so much easier to grate.
I also keep a stash of chillies in the freezer, makes them super easy to chop finely from frozen. Very good if you grow your own and have a glut but I live in the countryside and don't often have access to an interesting range of chillies so when I do I pop a bag in the freezer and have a choice when I want one. Also, making up a freezer bulk stash of blitzed ginger, garlic and chilli, the base to so many Indian recipes, makes rustling up something quick and healthy a lot easier. Some people say garlic doesn't freeze well, but I can't detect much alteration, if any. :)
Hi Dr. What's up? I'm a dentist.. 47 year's old.. I recently suffered from a spasm in the buttock muscle. It was like the symptoms of sciatica... But the rays showed it was just cramping... I have also suffered for more than 5 years from disturbing neck pains... The doctor advised me at the time to wear the neck collar for 3 months and advised me on several things to avoid during work... But when I started having lower back pain. but when he checked the blood pressure,he found it high.. I then checked with a specialist... I did a full thyroid test..blood.. Liver.. Kidneys.. sugar..they were all normal. Please Dr. your kind opinion. thank you so much.
What pan is that I need something that big that’s oven safe everyone I’ve tried comes out with burnt edges drives me crackers Even my Tefal one did it. Ugh Great recipe
Maybe too precise but roughly what amount of rice and lentils did you use for 500ml of water. Haven't cooked rice in the oven before like this, sounds great!
Love the recipes and you two are inspirational. The little clips in between I could do without though. You don't need it :)
