Chimo! How's my favorite "Dynamic Duo"? You both have some skills. Great tutorial Darren! Smart techniques on tying with that material. Mike's video on the "Genny" inspired my purchase of some "green death" pounders and later some dark chocolate Scotch ale. As tasty a brew as those browns were beautiful! I imagine this pattern pattern does well on the Salmon River too. Darren I was watching some Mustad tying videos. You ever hear of the Straw Boss? I believe the tyers name was Mike Hogue. I don't know if he or Drew Chicone originated the pattern but Chicone had a sbs in Fly Tyer on it. Cool bass pattern, looks like an airplane jig but has a slow wobble descent. I think Drew uses it in the shallow salt too. Cheers guys! Thanks for another daily double 👍😁🍻
Chimo Joe The Straw Boss vaguely rings a bell, but I don't recall the fly itself. I'll have to look it up. I like Drew's sbs that he puts out on his blog and in his newsletter. I tried to pick up his books a couple times, but had trouble buying them from his website. I seen he has a new ($$) set coming out later this year, a 3 book series that would be nice to have in my library. I can't wait to see more of Mike's vlog, he's tried to get out fishing a couple times, but the water got too iced up. Warmer weather will be welcome.
Piscator Flies Chimo. Yeah warmth on the way... unfortunately rain too. Mike's a hearty soul. I went to his blog also. Still, when I go through a link from UA-cam that warning to proceed with caution comes up. :-( So to be safe I leave. 🏃 But if I google wooly bugged it shows the link, click, and I'm there 🔒:-) That Straw Boss was by Joe Mahler, not the tyer I previously mentioned. Chicone's sbs was in Winter 2016 Fly Tyer. Lol, I pulled it out of a stack of mags on the first try this morning to re-read. I saw the video on Mustad's UA-cam. The FT artical says Drew and Joe are business partners, Strip Strike University and a www.com by the same name. I'll have to take a look at it, I love Chicone's thoughts on design concepts pertaining to sink rate and movement to imitate forage. I have his Feather Brain book. After I saw he used a pasta cutter to cut foam for his Medusa pattern I had to get his book. Then I learned he was from upstate NY like me and Eric Leiser was his mentor, who sort of mentored me through his Complete Book of Fly Tying. I discovered his UA-cam channel a while ago but it's not too active. I'll have to go to his strip strike site, is that his blog you mentioned? Btw, that Mustad channel is pretty good too, both fresh and salt, conventional and fly, tips and tactics, good stuff. Well I get my new glasses today, finally! Also I got a VERY early birthday present from my lady 😘😍, a chrome book! I must be doing something right, eh? Hope I don't get into too much trouble ;-) Cheers 👍😎 and thanks!
Piscator Flies lol, you posted this while I was writing my reply. Thanks speedy! Yes very cool pattern, all 32+ steps of it, but definitely a very cool bass or pike pattern. Primarily a bass pattern but I imagine would work for pike and salty critters. Probably moves like a subsurface Jitterbug with the wings and the way it's weighted. I wonder if Mahler ties it unweighted for a surface fly. How about as a "skater" for salmon / steelhead? Btw the pattern IS in the Featherbrain book. Thanks for the link!
Piscator Flies wow! I went to link. I must be psychic! No not psychiO psychIC... ha ha. Every thing I said is in first paragraph, or so. Thanks Professor Piscator! 👍😁 Sorry I don't do readings or tarot at this time.
I like these flies as soon as my pinched nerve gets better I’m gonna try them out
Larry, hope that you have a speedy recovery and get some of these wet this season. Cheers

Cool looking pattern. It would be a good bass/pike fly as well.
