@@nemix5284 That isn't the point. The point is that as a law student he should be well aware that asking for a lawyer before any interrogation is conducted is a constitutional right. Also, it is in no way any sign or admission of guilt. All of these cases on YT have one thing in common, they are always those that have been conducted without a lawyer present.
Just because a police officer does not appear to be officially interrogating you, remember that they are experts at professionally and seamlessly learning of details that may incriminate you later. Therefore, you cannot guarantee the conversation will not get out of hand before you even process what is being said. Without a lawyer or legal advisor present, you run the risk of sabotaging yourself in permanent and damaging ways.
Asking for a lawyer is the smartest decision you can make when you find yourself in such a situation and he should have known that. He should have known to invoke his 5th amendment right to not answer any questions and ask for an attorney to be present.
The way lots of these interrogations go down is that they don't actually read you your Miranda rights straight away and instead try to get you to incriminate yourself or divulge information relating to the case. What you should do is NOT answer any questions at all...especially if you have not been read the Miranda warning. Secondly, if they do read you your rights...then do not answer any questions and immediately ask to call a lawyer or to have one appointed to you.
*You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without an attorney present, you have the right to stop answering at any time. Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?*
The answer to that last question part of the statement should ALWAYS be no...he should have known that after 3 years learning about the law.

We've been saying for a long time about rape culture, about how women are in danger from men who they have rejected or wanted a divorce from. When men start seing women as other men and not respect them or empathise with them only when they have a female relative, but instead see we are humen too, things will get better. If you're afraid about your daughter, you can help make a better place. Speak up when you see a man approaching a drunk woman, or when you have an aquiantance who may have domestic violence offer help, etc.

His behavior, I'm sure, added evidence for the judge for obtaining a search warrant. It is known that killers like to hang around the crime scene. They are often noticed well after the fact, standing in the crowd, watching the reporting, and the police giving interviews. Because you went with your instinct, and let him just talk, instead of asking the same average questions to obtain scripted answers to a 2 minute edited sound bite, the police had a normal base to compare him to. Thank you for actually DOING journalism, instead of just showing people what the channel has already decided to run with.

@@Monarch_Flyer Well, every investigation I've seen of this kind of crime stresses this point. The murderer is a narcissist. He's thrilled with himself and yet he can't tell anyone, and its maddening to him/ The most he can do is watch the investigation and talk about it with others...which he did. And about leaving the crime scene, it depends. People passing through town who commit a murder and then leave usually end up as unsolved cases unless they get lucky with DNA. Look how many 25 year old cold cases are now being solved.
If you live right next to the victim and do a "runner" they'll be on you like white on rice. So, you would need to stay but be cool . Thirty years ago, the owner of the software company we used, killed his trainer. I was even interviewed by the FBI which was terrifying. He got caught because he was talking about it in a bar. Like I said, they are dying for someone to see how clever they are.
He probably thought he was slick talking to the news, and if the reporter had done the usual 2 minute sound bite, it would have delayed getting a warrant, and who knows how much evidence may have been destroyed.

If the trash had been on time this would've been another cold case and this guy would be roaming the streets still. That's whats so scary about it. He spent 3 years meticulously planing it out and they were only able to nail him after they seized his laptop and found the keys. The detectives got absolutely nothing in the interrogation because they couldn't get him to say more than 3 things. "Yes, no, I dunno".
Technically because of his legal background as a 3 year student of law they should've had a specialist there instead of the detectives. That's typically how they catch corrupt lawyers and police officers.

It's blatantly obvious that Stephen is autistic and whoever killed that lassie knows this in depth.

It was cut by the killer Himself

Not to mention the one detective basically noting or implying, that if one doesn’t have a significant other, boyfriend/girlfriend, that they are wasting their life, and/or possibly are murderous people 🧐. Not so sure of that. Pretty positive the last I checked there’s no law about not having a significant other (at least not in the United States) or not. I might have a bit of a bias on that though.
Do not get me wrong I understand Stephen did commit the murder but it’s just some of the detectives statements could use some elaboration as to what he meant by them. Also I’m wondering if that detective has never met an introvert before. Admittedly an introvert wouldn’t have gone on television, live or otherwise.

To be fair, just as many crimes are committed by those who outwardly seems normal and charismatic. Think of how many pastors and priests are found to have engaged in behavior they shouldn't have with their flock, or how many murderers lived their normal lives between murders for years with no one the wiser, how many individuals date people for years and love them only to find out how abusive they are years down the line. It's true that if someone's behavior indicates a lack of concern and compassion for others, or a selfish world view, that is a red flag and an indication someone might hurt you. Not necessarily in the sense of outright trying to physically harm you, but potentially take advantage of you or not give back what you're putting into the relationship. However, that doesn't really inherently have anything to do with how odd or different or how much of a loner someone is.

There was a man, probably in his 40’s, married, who always would come through my line if I was checking. He would stand in my line, even if there was another lane free. He would always just stare at me & hardly said a word. I knew his wife, she was a nice lady. One day when I was leaving work, there he was, parked by my car. Just sat there. I happened to live just a block from my job. One Saturday, was leaving my house with my 5 year old daughter. He drove by & I happened to see him. I told myself it was just a coincidence! The next time I saw his wife, I checked the address on a check she gave me. It was no where near me, in fact it was in the other direction. Tried to tell myself I was just imagining it. It's the typical behavior of a narcissist, What people don't realize is it takes an intelligent man to request help from another. it exhibits humility. His words should have been b4 the second interview, " Am I considered a suspect or involved in any way shape or form with this woman's demise"? If they answer "No", Than let them know you will be leaving immediately for they already interviewed you once. There have been MANY innocent people convicted of horrific crimes so Leave. However if they say "YES" Than immediately at this point tell them you wish to exercise your right to an attorney and say NOT ANOTHER word. Asking for an attorney does not fashion guilt, it shows quite the opposite. The problem with most innocent people is they feel hell I'm innocent so I will just see if I can help them in any way. STOP, The police would not call you into an interrogation room alone because they need your help. They at minimum would be doing it as a process of elimination. In short, Seek counsel b4 any type of questioning even if they are just wishing you a happy birthday LOL.

I'm amazed at how long these people sit in the interrogation room.
Steven had been asked questions earlier in the day and then came back for more questioning at 11pm. This went on until 1am.

Probably so the police can wear him down and he'll mess up. Being a law-student he probably thought he was so smart and didn't need a real lawyer. I imagine the law student from Washington state that is accused of killing those 4 students in Idaho thought the same thing - too smart to get caught.

If you are arrested - immediately asked for a lawyer and then shut up ! Never let the cops interigate you. You have the right to remain silent ! Use that right. Everything you say can and will be used against you. The cops are not your friend.

The accents from the cops, the whispering and starring from Steven, the tactics from the cops, their frustration, the cursing, it’s all a comedy special!!! This case needs a voiceover to be taken more seriously! I’m from south Ga and these accents are literally local lol

Not the first time I've seen this case and good lord is the way he stares into their eyes creepy. I have social anxiety, so I'd have my eyes darting all over. I can NOT fathom just staring into someone's eyes like a robot.

Their tactic is weird. If he's a talker, get him talkin. Instead of asking yes and no, make him talk about his days, weeks over and over. Eventually, the story won't line up. Once they fumble, the truth starts to spill out. Worst interrogation ever.

@@Timmybabimit does seem like disassociating to me, someone with osdd, or basically unspecified disassociative disorder. It to me seems like he knows hes screwed so he shut down. The fact hes a law student and didnt ask for a lawyer speaks volumes to me. This reminds me of brian kohlberger so much... the way he put the target on his own back trying to "help" the cops and talking about the case to others.
