  • "The Prosecutors " double episode:
Episode 1 - Young Love tells the story of a high school student whose overpowering obsession for his girlfriend led him to murder a rival for her affections in the parking lot of their high school in Fayetteville, Tennessee. The alleged killer, Jacob Davis, was an honor student involved in the drama club at his high school. The victim was a football player. The shooting shocked the small Tennessee town. The prosecution’s task was to dismantle the defense’s argument that the shooter was acting under a diminished mental capacity and to prove to a jury that his act was premeditated.
Episode 2 - This is the story of two young men whose paths tragically crossed on September 29, 1998 in Houston, Texas. One was a sheriff’s deputy while the other, like his father, stayed on the wrong side of the law. The deputy made a routine traffic stop one night that ended with him being brutally shot to death by the other young man, Michael Lopez. Prosecutors argued that 17-year-old Lopez deserved to die, but would the jury agree?

Why did Carol have to say anything to Jacob about shopping previously for a pg. test? I have taken in three high school girls at various times in my life. All three of them thrived on drama. If there was nothing going on, they would make sure to store something up, even if it took a lie. Groping for attention. Although there was nothing criminal about her actions, she certainly played a big role into driving him toward his immature emotions. Children don’t understand that young relationships are but a learning curve toward lessons of possible sound one’s in the future. The newness of love can be so intense.

The name of the girl was Tanya Bishop, not Carol.
Most people around here believe Jacob should have been released by now
Nick Creson spent the whole school year bullying Jacob Davis.
The only reason he got such a harsh sentence was because Nick Creson came from a popular family and was on the school football team, and football is all what most people care about in this town

like dude this school fucked up beyond words but all of that is now completely blindsided just by this very murder alone. even if he couldn't do anything before the murder, which i doubt, the murder would've definitely never fixed anything. as someone who's only been in TN for 4 years, what the hell are yall puffin around here?

When we are young, it's not that we don't care about the other person's feelings... We don't even understand the full depth of our own feelings, and sometimes we end up bouncing around from one good thing to the next - because we don't know that we really shouldn't promise to do things or not to do things until we even understand what the hell we're talking about. Promising to love one another forever, is a big promise that even when we are adults we still shouldn't be making that promise because forever is an awful long time and we are growing and changing everyday and it's not fair that we think that we can even make the promise that we do. It's not always done to be cruel.
Becoming sexually active before we're 25 probably doesn't help any of us. It's a loaded weapon that scientists still don't understand. It can be very painful and lead some people with fragile support systems and poor understanding of hormones and emotions at that young age leads people to do terrible terrible things. Not because they are monsters but because they don't have the wisdom or ability to really handle the power of these emotions. Movies and TV shows don't show realistic expectations either.
It's kind of like why you don't let a 5-year-old kid drive a tractor trailer ,(semi) down the interstate... We don't know how to manage or wield the power of painful emotions.

The school failed both young men. The letters should have been acted on by the principal on the day he gave the letter to the teacher. The police should have been alerted to track and find him since he talked about harming himself and someone else. He would have been detained or committed for treatment. This should never have happened. I was also most sad for the killers mum who lives with the guilt of having failed to see the anger in her son. And she has to still live in that town. Her son will be released from jail when he will be over 75yrs old. A life wasted and destroyed by a senseless killing. And as for Carol she will also carry part of the guilt for the rest of her life.

True. Also people need speak the truth about females, instead of this myth that humans have for some reason made up about them. The reality is, it's males who remain respectable, waiting for something real, while females generally don't even think about it. The myth SHOULD be true, but it's not. Say a woman makes someone a hot dog with mustard and the customer says they don't want mustard. Female logic says it's perfectly acceptable to just scrape the mustard off the bun and all is right in the world.

As a teenager, we were taught firearms safety in school as a prerequisite to getting a hunting licence. We would go duck hunting in season at daybreak and continue on to school afterward with guns and fishing rods routinely carried on a rack in our trucks. Every rural house had a shotgun, a .22 rifle and a broom behind the kitchen door with ammunition on the hat rack nearby. I lost friends to car accidents, farm accidents but I never remember any firearm accidents, certainly no crimes committed with them.
The answer is not to remove firearms but to focus on the family issues and mental health of those most likely to go on to commit the horrendous shootings we have come to fear.
If a person drives drunk and kills someone, we punish the offender, remove his right to drive and deal with the addiction. We dont remove the right for everyone else to own a vehicle.

Of course you blame a teenage girl for a teenage boy going home to get a gun and returning to the school to kill another teenager instead of just breaking up with her. His self esteem was so low that he thought he’d never find anyone else tho. He was scared to even leave for college because he had to watch her.

@Godzooky It's not her fault that he committed murder, but she isn't innocent in this either. She was the catalyst for these events.

High school/teenage romance happens to us all TOO SOON. The intensity of emotional feelings back then verses now that I'm 47 is hugely different. The worst thing about us is often the best things about us. How intensely we feel things before we have the full faculty to comprehend our feelings is a double edge. When we are kids all we really believe is what we feel, and after a few years it usually mellows out but these things are tragic when we feel too much too fast and before we can even evaluate things or even know that "the heartache won't always last forever" we just know how we feel. I thank GOD that I didn't have something like that happen to me - If the Love of my life had been with someone else back in HS, I might have found myself hurting someone too. I think it's even worse now, instant and constant ability to communicate with nobody knowing what's being said... I think kids today are more likely to handle emotional trauma much more violently because it's everywhere, and we don't share one single phone in a house... My parents knew how long I was on the phone, and heard half of what was being said and could figure out what was going on. I pray for the kids of the future. It's going to be worse, not better.
The first love of a boy from a crappy home situation is going to be something he feels strongly enough to kill over. Absolutely. 100% you can bet your life on the intensity he feels. I know 1st hand. I also know that my first love is my ONLY love still to this day. But I would have killed him or her or both if somebody cheated on me back then, I've grown up and matured but I do know how lucky I am that I got the right girl from the start.

That's why in scripture teenage girls who became sexually active were to be married. But we don't want our children to get married because we somehow think we know better than Adonai.
I fail to understand why adults think that kids don't need guidance.

A teenager, his harmones raging, first time in love and the girl cheats in him. They argue, she promises never again to see him. Next thing he knows, shes pregnant with his baby. Some teenagers get mad immed. Natural. Then yell or beat up the girlfriend, or instead of hitting a woman, go after the boyfriend. Still angry, it was alk one moment of anger. A passion killing. Not 1st degree or 51 years. This DA wants to make a name for himseld. Even having the audacity of mentioning the colunbine shooting. How dare he use the law for his political future! Hope it gets appealed.. Yes he made a bad choice, yes the girfriend made a wrong move as did the victim. He took a life while out of his mind in love. But half a century in jail? When everyone else, for 1st degree murder too gets 20 to life. So this DA oughta look within
