Man, if you wrote a Van Halen style album, I'd flip my shit
Damn straight....
You can do that!!!!! Lol I probably would too,, mr. thorn is a bad ass isn't he?
You and me both!
Yep. What Dr Trann said
Agree, Pete is a Bad MOFO on guitar, and gets a very good VH tone, but face it, only Van Halen can write Van Halen.
You can sound like VH, but to write like VH is a different story.
I thought it was gonna' be "Dirty Movies" at first LOL!!!
Yep! That’s the point! Lol
Right? That rototom sound is so awesome
Jesus,Mary, Joseph and all his carpenter friends! What an awesome intro!!!!!!
Honestly... everything he does is incredible.
"Joseph and his carpenter friends" would be an awesome band name.
I read all the stuff out there about how there aren't any "guitar heros" anymore. I think that's BS. Right here IMHO is one of the best in the biz. Pete never fails to impress with tone, technique, style and class. Completely LEGIT.
Thank u so much!
This 100%
Totally agree !!!
Guitar hero, I’m just glad we have a coffee mug hero!
I have a fever, and the only prescription is...more VH style rock!!
PETE --yes... please ....write VH style tunes ...awesome ... 'sinner's swing' slapback on the drums was epic
Pete, you are an amazing guitarist and this video was A+ material. I want to second Dr. Trann's comment below about "if you wrote a Van Halen style album". It's one thing to pay Eddie's songs, but to play original material in his style is something truly rare & incredible. I would certainly buy your album, and I think many more would as well. Thanks for what you do!
Thank you!
Wowza! Channeling Eddie while still being you...you are AMAZING Pete!
Hey thanks! Y a know I love Ed, long live EVH through his music, forever!
B.E.A.utiful. Absolutely killer. What a flawless integration of Van Halen’s style into your own.
Would love to see a collab between you and Wolfgang if he ever decided he'd like to produce some "Dad" style material. Maybe invite Mr. PX to those sessions as well! Just sayin' (wishing lol)...
You're a guitar players guitarist in my humble opinion Pete, thanks for all the great stuff that you share!
When will the pickup shootout come out? Im looking forward to see that one
I think we are filming it on June 5
Seems like the WA12’s might have more color from the transformer. Sounded great but the API sounded a bit more open (more headroom).
Awesome pre for sure and am looking forward to tossing one or two in my project studio. 🤘
Great Warm demo - the fact that you've added the live drummer and are playing VH inspired music...SOLD! Always appreciated.
Pete, huge fan but... you should definitely do a EVH style album..
More VH Pete, you do it so well. Looking forward to your VH pickup comparrison video.
Thanks! It’s fun to try and get in that zone and do something similar
@@PeteThorn I couldn't agree more, you do it so well and I love the passion you put into it, I love how much of a VH nerd you are, absolutely brilliant. Massive thumbs up from me 👍🏻
Another Pete Thorn VH video? Clicked within a millisecond of seeing the notif!
WOW this is one the best videos you have ever done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks!
Hi Pete! I am a big fan! You are awesome! I have a question that I cannot seem to solve all these years. May I know how do you prevent the hum of the high gain preamps all these while? I am having these hums even when I am using a humbucker pickup. I even put a Ebtech elimintor,, it just doesn't work. I am really interested to know. Thanx a million!
Lets give some thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Pete any chance you might post those 2007-2009 pics of you and the CC band I really liked those photos esp the one where u are all taking a bow and the one where u are wearing a badmotorfinger shirt 3 sizes too small
Btw can't wait for the pickup shootout!!
Holy mother of Bejeezus your guitar sounds fantastic! Great song as well Pete thanks for doing what you do.
Thank u!
If anyone is wondering if the WA12mk2 is worth it, yes it is. If you can't afford an API or don't want to go the 500 series format, get the WA12mk2 and also mod it with a CAPI gar2520 opamp that will take it over the top and it is easy as pulling the stock opamp and inserting the CAPI one. Rock on guys
Dang Pete
Shameless plug but I just bought a SUHR PT 100 SE. Awesome amp, and awesome tones. Well done...
Haha I like your comment about Gretta Van Fleet. Dude, I love your videos with EVH anything
It's a shame Warm Audio didn't provide you with the TB Black Edition 19 inch rack version. There you have even more tone control. The API A2D sounds a bit more open. Pete's guitar skills are outstanding!
API sounded a big bigger and deeper in the lows, WA was a little tighter and a little more interesting in the mids. I preferred the WA.
Just do a VH style album Pete! Read the comments - we want it!! You are respected and have earned the right to “borrow” and we would appreciate it! I can respect Greta Van Fleet - to each their own but it’s not an apples to apples comparison. Sorry they just haven’t earned it. Let’s check back with those guys in 15-20 years and see if they’ve earned it. Whatever - just do it Pete!! 🤙
Hey Pete! Great demo!
I know I'm seeing this a little late and all, but I have to ask a question or two here.
These preamps are both identical, just in different application formats if I'm not mistaken, is that right?
The other question was this: How are you running these into your DAW? Are they going through the front inputs of your interface, or are they connected as inserts from your DAW? My sales engineer at Sweetwater is recommending these pre-amps to me. Thanks for posting. A great guitar tone to be sure.
Here's a must watch interview with Eddie Van Halen talking about his gear and how it evolved:
ua-cam.com/video/yb26D8bBZB8/v-deo.html
Nice. Warm mics and things like their knock off 1176 compressors are something to try for sure; much more affordable than the originals without a huge quality difference. Their mics are sweet, really making a play for a more middle market in terms of price...nice move.
That was outstanding. Pete is a monster! In a good, face-melting way.
You never cease to impress Mr.Thorn! Well done on capturing the VH vibe with your own secret sauce. If folks are looking for inspiration they to look no further than here. 🤘
Solo'd I think the APIs had a bit more clarity and punch but it was subtle. In this mix, the original track with the Warm audio pres sounded absolutely killer. I have no doubt the differences would all but disappear in dense mix like that to all but the most discerning listeners. It also has a lot to do with the great mics, amps, guitars and of course the amazing playing. The source makes all the difference.
Love the combo of recording gear comparisons/demos and a guest drummer and VH style tunes! Excellent as always, Pete!
Van Halen inspired album.......ya gotta do it......ya gotsta.
Dirty movies/mean st song! Good job Pete, I can absolutely hear your take on this one. Genius!
I'm a bonified old guy who loves Led Zeppelin and I really like Greta Van Fleet. :)
Wow awesome sauce - like an EVH solo album we never got unless you consider the porn soundtrack 😆
Can I join your band? What a GREAT tune! More please :)
Hmm, the real API sounds a bit better, thicker, smoother on top. More texture in the mids.
doing live drums really elevates your content above the high standards that you already set. kudos!
Dirty Movies!!! (non-lawsuit version)
Does the white EVH have the Duncan 78 in it?
It’s actually a rewind electric pickup
@@PeteThorn Tell me more. Do you like the 78? Reason I’m asking is, I have a 91 PRS EG. It has a pick guard, with 3 singles. I don’t like the way it sounds. I want to just get a new pick guard with a single hum, maybe a single at the neck. Kinda like the Henrick Donhage Charvel with the push/pull volume. I love that early VH sound, and the JB is too hot, and not real forgiving. What do you think?
Please get a singer for these tracks and put this stuff out. It would sell like hot cakes, Pete. ;)
So no sm57 on the cabinets just large diaphragm mics? That's a really full sound
No no on the cabinet it’s an SM 57
And a 421
Please write Van Halen Style Songs!! This is so awesome
Dave Roth should give you a call.
Ohhhhhh HELL YEAH 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That intro was tasty - and a nice gesture to one of the greatest guitar players ever
Some more demos of ProAudio gear would be a very cool thing. WarmAudio also makes a 1073 Preamp (double the price of the WA12, though), but there are more affordable ones like the GoldenAgePremier PRE-73
Maybe a little comparison between some of them (there are many others out there) would be nice and helpful to many of us, combined with some Mics - also briefly on vocals and/or drums? I know that this is a guitar-related channel, but your demos just sound the best, are very well explained, very musical and "realistic"
I don´t mean the above suggestion as a shootout, more of a "what different kinds of preamps sound like with different kinds of microphones on guitar (and maybe vocals? :D )" since
that stuff is not thaaat cheap and maybe that would help a lot of people
and i drank way too much tequila
anyway, cheers and stay healthy!
More VH
Very nice modal playing.
SM57 on kick for those first couple VH album drum sounds, but horseshoes and hand grenades...drums and guitars sound great!
That’s true! Wild ain’t it?
how about a little demo with the komet amp sometime
At 0:30 the coolest riff i heard in years
Wow Pete that was fantastic. Blair is one excellent drummer. Tasteful fills and pocket!
He’s a bad ass!
Sick lick at 0:43 totally kick ass Pete!
Very Kings Xish... dig it
Sounds stellar
Great guitar tones, but also a pretty SICK bass tone 🔥
that sure was pretty Pete
sounds good to me!
AWESOME!!!!!!!
The WA12 is only $469 - that's super reasonable for a great preamp. It sounds awesome in this video for sure.
Awesomeness 😎🤘
Goose Bumps
R E A L C O O L !☮️✌️☮️
wow! awesome ;O)
Vive la King Edward...
Just got one of the 412s they are excellent for egtrs. Their 67 with a Telefunken tube....a real keeper!
Two things. No, just shut up and listen:
1. That drum tone was incredible. SO close to AVH. Fantastic sounds, fantastic drummer, just... well, fantastic.
2. You need to do an entire album of VH style songs. Now. NO I SAID NOW (!). You are the new Van Halen for the younger UA-cam age. You are the closest thing we have. Make it happen!
P.S. You are wonderful
Pete, I have a basic interface into a Mac. I'd like to start putting together a home studio and one thing that confuses me is outboard preamps with a quality interface. If I get a UA Apollo Twin interface and an API pre to start are the preamps now in series? Can I disable the preamp in the UA?
Yes you can just go into the line input on the UA and then don’t use any of the virtual preamp stuff. All good!
Your tracks are the best in gear-blog land. Amazing player.
If you ever need a singer, …
Thanks!!
Never overlook the mix engineer's input AT MIX. You can get Eddie and Alex's sounds exactly as they were in the studio with the exact same equipment, mix it all together and you're nowhere close to sounding like them. Summing amps are insanely important as well as how you use them. You don't just drop everything into a summing amp and it spits out magic. You split tracks into sub groups of low, mid and high and process them separately before summing them again (whether in a dedicated summing amp or not, usually NOT, just back to the board for whatever opamp to handle). Ever wondered how Eddie's low end was in super tight with the bass and Alex's toms yet in clusterfk parts of the song - places any other band would sound like mush - he's SOMEHOW riding right on top of it, even his signal seems to be triggering the compression elsewhere in the track while the low end of his signal never steps away from the rest of the band? Now you know. Again, you can do EVERYTHING perfectly but if you leave out how the individual channels were summed AT MIX - you're in Nova Scotia, not southern California.
Go man go!
Killin'!
Badass!
Absolutely awesome Pete! I’m so glad you’re such a big EVH fan 😀 with your guitar talent! So inspirational with awesome tones! Thanks!! 👍
I have no idea what you’re talking about but I subscribe because I love watching you play -awesome!! thank you Pete!
Pete, that was fucking awesome. Well done sir.
Thanks Peter!!!
Great song and Warm makes really solid stuff. Started with a 47jr and quickly added a WA73 and WA76.
Sounds good but not that close to my ear. Night and day diff on the clarity for me between the two preamps.
Keep in mind that I had to balance the two microphones, so it’s never going to be exactly the same. Tough to get the gain exactly the same when switching pres. And I think “night and day” is a little strong. Unless I’ve lost a lot more high-end than you or something
That intro made my day!!
That sounded like Eddie played rhythm guitar on a Pete Thorn song! You definitely nailed his rhythm guitar style, but those solos were ALL YOU!
man you should totally do this all the time LOL...awesome track! I love the tones and chord choices..and Blair's drumming is killer!!! subscribed!
I have a little Audient iD14 interface. Supposed to be very good mic pres from their big console and the DAC is the good stuff etc. It requires a power source to run the mic pres, i.e., more than it can get from the USB. I have wondered if running my load box into a dedicated mic pre and then into my interface would make much difference, considering that the mic pres in the interface are shooting to be better than your average ones. Wadda ya think? Cheers.
These sound great. I did think there was a little more bottom on the real APIs, but no big deal. Very affordable too. Thumbs up from me and my keyboard. Great demo, thanks!
WOW 😳 I'm going to repeat what others are saying if you did a VH style album of original material..wow..best music out in years!
Ok stop, just stop. Except don’t! And the live drums - whoa!!! Seriously, thank you, thank you, thank you. What a tribute/homage to your friend and legend!
Absolutely love the intro! You definitely are channeling the EVH vibe! Are you only using the mic pre or is there any other devices like compressor/eq in the chain?
Your videos are always amazing
Thank you so much man. Actually been feeling in a bit of a rut lately so comments like yours really help.
Another face punching intro, just grip it and rip it! Doing VHish demos are your wheelhouse for sure. Drum intro sounds fantastic, Fair Warning tones for sure.
Kick arse riff! Kick ass lead!
Thanks Pete. It’s like a little mini album release every time.
Your intros are always amazing.
Thank you. 🤗
Pete slaying VH riffs is a given, always killer. Massive shoutout to Blair on those drums though! Absolutely nailed the AVH thing!
As usual, the warm audio stuff has less presence clarity and Fidelity then the “name brand”
holy shit this sounds unreal
Thanks!
Pete, I can die happy only if I one day get to meet you. You're the king of rock. Period. EVH looks up to you from above.
Just WONDERFUL! 🙋🏻♂️
I heard some mix engineers listen a low volumes too. Great review. Love affordable gear.
Hey Pete, have you done a pickup vid?
We will film it June 5! Almost 25 pickups!
