Is the NEW 2019 Ford Edge the BEST BUY in mid-size SUV market?

- The ALL NEW 2019 Ford Edge is here. In the highly contested SUV market has Ford done enough to the Edge to make it a stand out? Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged engine pumping out 250 HP mated to the NEW 8 speed automatic gearbox. With a revised exterior and interior to match is the 2019 Edge the SUV to buy?
Proud owner of 2018 edge sel.. Great power and performance.. Totally worth the money spent
Any reliability issues? I believe trucks and suvs are Ford's strong point
Just purchased my daughter the 2020 edge titanium. She just realized the center console will keep you're drinks cool... not to mention very nice sound system.. The dual panel windows makes for the quietest rides EVER!
THANKS FOR YOU'RE ALL HELP!
I have had 2 Edges--both great cars. Never a problem either even though I had one for 125k miles. Well built with great leg room front and rear as well as a lot of cargo space. Took some long trips. The seats are very comfortable and the interior quiet. Very solid feel as well.
I bought this car because of your review. I love it and I love your channel. I am now watching the content you put up like it even though I don’t need a car for quite a while. Keep up the great work!
I just purchased this car today, in a heavy fall of snow. It handles, great. Smooth ride, and steering.
How is it, 3 years later?
We just purchased a 2019 Edge ST and it is awesome! Our first Edge was 2012 and we loved that one as well. The 2019 ST is an all wheel drive with the 2.7 twin turbo and I am really amazed at its handling and comfort we are enjoying it! Thank you for your review it is spot on keep up the good work.
Congrats! Thanks for sharing your great experience! I appreciate your support!
Ford is heading in the right direction for sure. Awesome video Joe and Tom! Joe you did a great job highlighting the new upscale touches, and Tom did a really good job showing them, I know it was super sunny down there so the video came out great. Thanks to Walker Ford for letting us see this refreshed beauty!!
I always appreciate your great comments! Thank you for letting me share my reviews with you! I was worried the sun was going to hurt the shot but I think it turned out well. Walker Ford is so great with allowing me access to these cars!
Nice review I am buying the Ford Edge based solely on your reviews and checking web site. This will be the first American car I will be buying in 30 years
Nice review, Raiti! You hit the essential stuff, and doing it without idiotic, blaring background music! Kudos!
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and say those things! It really means a lot!
I bought a new Edge SEL (AWD) in 2019, have had it almost 4 years now, has 40,000 miles. This is an outstanding vehicle. 40,000 trouble free miles. Solid, no interior squeaks or rattles. 25mpg typical suburban driving, 32mpg on highway. I live in Wisconsin, it is as good in the snow as the Jeeps that I have owned. Mine has extremely comfortable cloth seats. Very roomy inside, my right knee does not bump against the center stack. Engine is quiet and very powerful, can easily be going 80mph by the end of any freeway entry ramp.
Thank you Jeff for sharing that awesome feedback!
My 2010 Edge AWD is fast and amazing with no engine issues. I get 24 mpg (driving at 70-75 mph).
I am so glad that you have had a great experience!
I have a 2019 AWD edge titanium. The interior is insane. Along with the headlights. Solid power. So far pretty impressed.
Great review Joe ! will definitely look at this model in 4 years when my BMW X5 is paid off ! see how much it’s worth in 2022 and I’ll go from there. Will need a fun, sporty and practical mid size SUV and this one checks all the boxes.
Thank you for watching this one! You have plenty of time to see what will be available! Great things are coming down the pipeline!
Fact: The X5 is the target vehicle that Ford used to develop the Edge.
Picked up the same exact Edge for the wife 4 months ago, upgraded from an escape titanium. Edge is hands down all around nicer , handles and rides better and the gas mileage is about the same. @Raiti's rides great review.
Update 4 years later?
Very informative video as usual. Your videos give more info. than any other UA-cam channel out there. Thanks for taking the time and being honest good or bad. I almost felt like I was at the dealer. I can't wait for the ST model. I want to put my wife in one. I do have one question, on the top of dash in the center I think I saw another area for storage. Is that correct ? Thanks again.
This had got to be one of the nicest comments! It means so much to me to read your kind words! Yes, that is extra storage in the center! Let me know if you have anymore questions.
I recently took a 2019 Titanium model for a test drive. Very comfortable.
Thanks for the video, lots of great information
Thank you Peter for letting me share it with you! I am glad you made it down to a dealer for a test drive!

Raitt's Rides, you're right about the edge, it does have some umpth, we traded in our 2019 Toyota Highlander XLE V6, and every time we throttle up it seemed like the transmission hesitated and then it finally powered up they're not like that at all, Toyota Transmissions must be that way first Toyota SUV we ever owned and probably won't own one never again, so we bought a 2020 Ford Edge St 2.7 EcoBoost colorstar White, and no hesitation in the transmission and the power is very satisfied, and no regrets we love our Edge St.
Just got a killer deal on a new 2018 edge that was still on the lot I actully like the hood and tail lights of the 18. But the 19 is sweet to. Love the edge. Great suv and the 250hp 2.0 ecobost has a nice kick.
I own a 2016 Ford Edge 2L SEL. it amazing quite and smooth ride. Only drawback I feel is the dashboard mainly in front of the side seat looks a bit bulky. Otherwise no complaints.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
My mom's bf got a 2019 Ford Edge SEL and I think it's very comfortable and he can say the same. I'm not sure how good gas miles it has on it. He got it just 4 days ago. And since I do have a permit and he lets me drive and when driving, I think it drives very smooth and comfortable. I love driving it and I also love the features it has. He said he would give it to my mom his 2012 Chevy Equinox LTZ since she has a 2004 Ford Taurus SE lol. That vehicle got problems and now we can do stuff while he's at work without worrying about her car.
Just traded my 2013 Edge for 2019. I bought the 2013 in 2018 and it only had 72000 miles and when I traded it in it only had 80000 but 2 years in too ownership the transmission was slipping, and the backup camera was hit and miss and on the inside some of the buttons on the steering wheel were sticking. I kind of felt with no more miles it had on it too many issues. I wised up on my 2019 Ford Edge purpose. My 2019 is fully loaded with just about every option. it was a lease vehicle and only has 58000 and this time I purchased a 7-year warranty which leave me worry free now for as long as I plan to own it anyway.
Some ideas: Zonk videos, bloopers, reading hate comments, Joe washing his RS with some cool products. Joe arguing with wife about features on a car, Joe sending Tom to film a car and then doing voice over because he wasn't actually there with Tom.
I like where you are going with that! Stay tuned to see some of your ideas implemented.
is the touchscreen standard with the SEL?? Also can you use android auto with it???
Yes & yes! Thanks for watching!
My brother got the SEL AWD with tech package. It's really nice I was surprised how comfortable it is. Only thing that bothered me was location of the door handle my knee was resting against it while driving. It's placed real low for some reason..
That is a very good point! Thanks for letting me share that!
This is the best review on UA-cam for this 🚗🚗🚗
Thank you for saying that Jade!
Great review Joe! Does the edge have power folding side mirrors?
Picking mine up on the 20th! Love the new style!
Congrats! I am sure she will bring you plenty of smiles per miles!
I have driven an SE, SEL (3.5L V6), Sport (315 hp), and two STs (335 hp). I am aiming for the ST when it comes to replacing my 2011 Limited. I just hope Ford doesn't discontinue this vehicle but refine it.
Did you review the ST yet?
Here you go:

Since Mavericks are impossible to get without massive markups, a lightly used Edge is looking better and better..
I noticed you had the driver's seat pushed forward when you were sitting in the back row. Is there not enough room to sit there when the drivers seat is fully extended?
I had to move it up a little, but it wasn't all the way forward.
Great video! We just purchased a 2019 Ford Edge SEL with the convenience package, wife loves it! I went with a 2019 Ford F150 XLT Sport. Purchased at Reynolds Ford of Norman, Oklahoma. Again, thanks for a great video on the Edge!
Hey Joe, I am looking at a 2019 Ford Edge and a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. Could you do a comparison video between the two cars? And you had to choose to buy one of them with your money, which one would you pick?
Love the channel, avid watcher, and love the merchandise. Bought two t-shirts just recently!
Thanks for reaching out and for your awesome support of the channel! I will try to get that review together for you. In the mean time I would take my money and get a Santa Fe. I love the interior space a lot more.
@@RaitisRidesthank you for the reply! Do you think the 2.0L turbo charged engine in the Santa Fe has enough power? I live in a state where I have a lot of hills and some mountains and I am concerned about the power and fuel economy which is why I am leaning toward the Edge.
We bought the Edge over the Santa Fe. One was the engine in the Santa Fe was very noisy, the Edge not. Also didn't like the location of the headlights and the rear blinkers. My wife liked both the Santa Fe and the Edge. Will see how things go in the future on the Edge.
Is it way better compared to Hyundai Tucson? (Night edition).
Nope
is the grocery net included or is that part of a package. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the Ford website.
Yes it is! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Doesn't piano black scratch easily if you wipe it? We have it in a buick and it does scratch if you clean it with a soft cloth. :( This is a beauty of an Edge! I'm considering one. The $42K one is $31K now at end of 2019.
My dream American SUV! Terrific job Joe.
I really appreciate you watching my older reviews as well.
@@RaitisRidesYou're welcome Joe!!
We love our 2019 Edge SEL and our F150 truck.
That's is a great Ford setup!
My wife and I have the same, f150 for me new edge for her! ( She had an escape titanium that was totaled because of Bambi) The edge is amazing literally the same car in this video except awd.
I love my 2019 Ford Edge...it's the best Suv I've ever owned...i
Thanks for sharing that input with us about your experience!
Wife and I just brought a 2019 Ford Edge SEL magnetic metallic gray with the 201A package we love it.
I just bought one sel model with and, thanks for validating my decision
Thanks Peter for saying that! Congrats on your new Edge!
Which is better Chevy blazer or Ford Edge 2029

Love my 2020 Edge SEL AWD, Best SUV ever!!!
Hey, Joe-Whadya Know About the new Ford Mustang Mach-E That's Coming Out on November 17?
Does the SEL trim level have a power tailgate?
Yes
My wife loves these new SUV, I just cringe on even thinking about owning one. 😁😁
Great presentation as always, Joe. Great camera work as always, Tom.
That really made me laugh (sorry about that). Is she looking at any others?
Not at all. She's not into cars, she just likes them, that's all. Some women, eh?! 😁😁
I'm telling her station wagons are better option as they're lower and much safer for sudden maneuvers.
I totally agree with you! Get here in one and see what she thinks!
I'm thinking of upgrading us to a VW Passat R36 Variant, as we kinda need a slightly bigger car for us and our baby. We'll see...
That would be nice way to go!
@Raiti’s Rides, wanted to thank you for your suggestion of the Santa Fe over the Edge. I recently bought the ultimate with the turbo and I love it. Thank you for you suggestion
Congrats on your new SUV! I really think you made the right choice!
Thanks for this review. I’m actually going to look it up in the next week.
I am so glad that you liked it! Let me know if you have any questions!
I just leased a titanium from Riverhead Ford. Great deal!
Congrats Barry! I hope you get plenty of smiles per miles!
Its a nice SUV but there are a lot of great new SUVs coming...the 2019 CX5, Pilot, RAV 4, and Santa Fe but personally I like this new Edge.
The competition is getting pretty interesting!
Rudy F the edge doesn't compete with the RAV4,cx5 or pilot...the edge is 10 inches smaller than the explorer and 10 inches longer than the escape...the RAV4 and cx5 are similar in length to the escape and pilot is similar in length to the explorer
Great video and camera work. So many other features you could touch on. Just picked up my 2019 SEL with 201A group, cold weather package ( I'm in NY ), Ford co-pilot 360 assist, convenience package, and Vista roof. Sticker after equipment group savings 41,280 Traded my 2016 Titanium with 21,700 miles, loved that car but wanted more toys. Wanted the collision, lane, adapt cruise, etc etc. Lot's of great stuff and had to move since there was 3,500 cash backs. Checked out the Titanium trim but honestly not worth the extra bucks to me for what you get. Titanium has ambient lighting, memory drivers seat and mirrors, and 19" wheels, nothing much else other than the across the back tai-lighting. The only thing I will miss is the memory seats, my SEL has all needed including remote start. Even that is better as built in modem etc so smart phone Ford Pass app can now start car none line of sight via phone. Also report gas level, tire pressure to phone. Not that important to me but hey, toys, he who dies with the most wins!
I loved my 2016 and looks I will love my 2019 even more!!! Fix little things that I missed in 2016. They added fog lights, great! They added a button to turn off Traction Control, before had to do it in settings. Default is on and we have snow here, sometimes you need to shut it down to power through.
Small like, not so much. Well maybe not that small, the Start and Stop engine. Obviously something they had to do probably to meet MPG government stuff. I'll admit works well so far, often turns off engine at stoplight, restarts engine immediately when you lift foot off brake. A little disconcerting to me, not so much in operation but more mentally thinking of the wear and tear on engine. Plus a lot of computer stuff added as well as heavy duty battery and alternator. Thankfully easy button push to disconnect, located right by transmission dial BUT on by default every start up. The front A posts still very thick obscures some vision when turning. The cargo deck come with the great cutout storage areas under the deck. Old one had a little plastic hook to stick on rim to hold it up, gone? Now hold it up with one arm or pull it off entirely, deck just sits on top. Tiny thing but was real convenient. Now will have to make something up.
Bottom line, I love the EDGE!!

Hi George! Thank you so much for the compliments and sharing your thoughts and input on your ownership experience!
Can you permanently turn off the start/stop?
@@peacevalleyforagers Sadly NO! I imagine that here will be ways to do so using over-rides or whatever in future but I wouldn't do anything like that. Too much technology and controlling computers involved. I will also say that start and stop is everything I knew I would hate before I had it. BUT there is GOOD news, the start/stop is easy enough to deactivate via push button very conveniently located on the center console behind the gear dial. It becomes second nature quickly to simply start car then hit deactivate button. Should you fail at start you can deactivate it anytime during your drive. I don't like it because although admittedly instantaneous startup when you left foot off brake, I do still notice a little bump, almost feels like a tiny misfire. Also although everything still runs like AC etc when stops, I can feel that AC becomes less effective. We have not even hit really hot weather yet. I am positive I will never get used to nor like start/stop. Interesting if you set the left screen instrument/info center to one of the mpg info areas it will indicate start/stop condition, activated, engine stopped or ( the interesting part ) why you are at stop and engine has continued to run. Indicates things like battery requires charging, grade too steep, all kinds of things system monitors, coolant temp, on and on. Honestly quite a system but matters not, I still dislike it but got used to turning it off. It was/is not a deal breaker on this car.
What I may never get used too!!! That dial transmission gear selector. I find that I have still to pay attention to making sure put it in park, look when want reverse, etc even after months and miles I have used car. Though having dial instead of shift lever really cleans up console nicely I would stil rather have the lever. Maybe just me and over half a century of having one?
George in NY
They’re withdrawing these from the British market but I’m seriously thinking about getting one.
You should check out the Hyundai Kona. My gf just bought one and i'm quite impressed with it
That is a great idea! I am hoping to get my hands on one soon!
@@RaitisRides she got the Limited trim level with a 1.6 Turbo and AWD. Surprisingly fun
That is really great! What color?
@@RaitisRides black, it's pretty sharp :)
Yes it is!
This is nice for the masses, lots of power, and almost as fast as my 84 GN at half the engine size, which brings me to the point that the engine sits so low, at first glance, it looks like it is missing, and you could fit an adult on top of the engine under the hood. For performance people like us that saw, and/or drove the ST, it is definitely lacking, but of course you're talking about $20K more for the loaded ST. Personally, not including the ST, and that price range, I imagine the new 2019 Honda Passport Elite AWD is nicer, has more power and off road capability, and a lot more, but it doesn't mean this is bad by any means. I know it will sell very well.
Thank you so much for bringing your great input and perspective to the channel! You really touch on some great points! Thank you so much for watching!
@@RaitisRides The bottom line is, Viva la difference. All the choices, and quality cars and other vehicles coming out, and some at reasons prices and awesome styling, innovation, safety and performance. And people and resources to help tell you what to avoid. It's just sometimes, I wish certain vehicles were or weren't offered certain ways, like the options on the Honda Civic Sport Sedan that are not on the Sport Hatchback. Btw, I saw a post from Honda today that stated Car&Driver picked the Honda Civic Sport, Si, and Type R for another award. I fiorgit exactly what, but it shows how great cars they are. Like this new Edge, they are winners.
You are so very true!
The ST is the one with a tune to keep up with the competition :)) Nice review!
Thank you so much for the compliment and you are so very right about the ST! I appreciate you watching!
Definitely NOT a car for long road trips with the family. Thank you for pointing out how damn small the back seats are. I would have bought one if the put the back seats able to tilt back and be back more. They went with trunk space instead :-(
great job on this ford edge!🖒🖒 and it's my favorite color💛💛💓

Don't know if I'm sitting on the "edge" with this model, but it is interesting none-the-less. Now for a "few" question & comment bullets. lol
1. So the SEL is the base model?
2. Is the front license plate holder removable without leaving holes in the bumper?
3. Are Chrome wheels available?
4. I like the twin hood shocks instead of a fold away support arm.
5. A column shifter and a key? Come on Ford.
6. Since the SUVs are so popular, I'd like to see the manufactures have a hidden rear hatch wiper blade. The one on this edge is huge.
7. Where did they hide the passenger side air bag?
8. Will the back seats fold absolutely flat, or will they be at a slight incline?
9. Over the infotainment system, there appears to be a lid of some sort. If so, what's it hiding?
10. You did mention towing capacity. So where does a tow hitch go? Hanging down from the rear bumper in that I didn't see any hidden plate for same? Hmmm.
Ultimately, great review Joe.
I always have to give my knuckles a good crack before I start typing! lol

0-60 in the 2.0 is 6.8 seconds with a 15 second quarter mile. Thats why it felt faster.
Hell no. Google eco boost oil consumption, eco boost intake valve coking, eco boost rough idle, eco boost pcv problems, problems with direct injection, ford customer service, " I'll never buy another ford again" ford transmission problems, , etc..... I wrench for a living and I hate fords. I replace eco boost motors and ford transmission like I replace brakes and unit bearings on most brands. I have 5 hoists in my shop and I honestly can't remember a time when their wasn't at least one low mile ford needing a new engine or trans. @@DeanT1987 low speed surging and bucking. I found that they all don't do it but many do. Johnny B I mean at cold start yea I notice a little jerkiness but I’ve noticed that pretty much with any car I’ve had, or slow laggy shifts but then after it’s pretty smooth. I think a lot of these newer transmissions seem to experience some dual clutch quality to them because of so many gears from what I’ve seen online especially a lot of the 10speed transmissions, there’s seems to be some inherent low speed jerkiness to them. But haven’t experience it in this vehicle YET

Unfortunately, Ford doesn't have the edge on the SUV market with its Edge. Too much plastic. Boring body design. Basic interior and the wheels look like hub caps. I think the 2016 Toyota Highlander looks much better.
You bring up a very good point. Just remember that this is the SE trim level with is the starting point. I appreciate your dedication with your comments and you taking the time to watch!
And we should care about your opinion....because? The Highlander has been widely BASHED for the past several for the exact, precise reasons that you've stated, and THAT is for the XLE and Limited trims!!!!!!
@@eskieman3948 You were obviously concerned enough to comment. Let's assume the Toyota Highlander is just as bland or worst? Does this make this car good to follow suite?
Son, MANY highly regarded car mags have pointed out the plasticy, cheap interiors of the Highlander, so, no there's NO assumption, son. It IS - I've seen enough of them myself. As far as your laughable "Does this make this car good enough to follow suite"? Please stay on point, and don't deflect. The Highlander interiors are cheaply done, period. BTW, close the door on a new Edge or even a Sorento, then close the door on your Highlander. Listen - Thunk vs. CRASH (as in junk).
See Subaru line up...not ford..4 cyl turbo..trouble. For all fords...I do like the look outside.....but cost prohibitive in general..Subaru has more clearance for snow 8.50 inches...Subaru price and function better deal..but not as pretty...lol
That is a very good point! Plus Subarus hod the value very well!
Your comments are laughable. No proof of your comments regarding the turbo, the Subarus can be easily as expensive as the Edge, we're talking a CUV vs. AWD Subarus…. so, gave you sold your first Subaru yet at your dealership? LOL
I don't sell Subarus ..I'm a retired bell emp. And a millionaire by last tax return ..bought daughter a Subaru after, lengthy research....could have done worse..but not much better....but never a ford esp, today's company
In case you haven't checked. Ford and chevy aren't growing. Their getting rid of their car models...very risky for the consumer.....my reason ...
In case you haven't checked, Ford, then Chevy have shut down their car manufacturing simply because of lack of demand - EVERYBODY wants a SUV or a CUV. Don't produce what people don't want, right? And a "millionaire by last tax return"? Please. Been there, done that, but what is that supposed to me to me or other readers?
Eskie Man he accused me of being a poser salesman..and I'm not. I did retire with 700k. Now 975 k. Close enough..ma bell pays well and matching investment funds...think that's good. Wife is out by DEC with 800k
Don't be jealous..I,worked and invested for 30 years..
