- A homemade mechanical rolling ball clock (english, deutsche Version: • Murmelbahn-Pendeluhr (... )
The clock runs for 12 hours, driven by a weight of 2.5 kg sinking approx. 1 meter during that time..Every minute a marble is lifted up and goes down a marble run with three flipping traps that count marbles for minutes, five-minute-steps and hours.
The timekeeping element is a second-pendulum with a pinwheel escapement.
The clock achieves a drift of less than 1 second per day.
I have to admit that this is based on a measurement over 24 hours only, so it does not include large temperature variations. Nonetheless, I did not expect that high accurracy. But keep in mind that a pinwheel escapement is among the most precise.

I am a watchmaker, and I approve of this message. Amazing piece of engineering!
Wake up every hour on the hour with this brand new mechanical alarm clock!
Amazing !!!
I love mechanical clocks and watches. Their movements reminds us of history and science. Beautiful !
I used to play with a small version of one of these that my parents had way, way back in the day...
I love how you have the 1am marble glued in!
I love this. I'm showing it to my physics class as we study Hooke's law. Thank you.
I love listening to clocks ticking, I have a late 1870’s long case clock with a” Burns at the plow” clock face, a dedication to Robbie Burns, keeps perfect timing.
Great work for home made. There's just one thing that separates this clock from similar marble clocks: every hour a ball bearing will strike a bell as it goes past.
Awesome work mate! You have really made this well! Can't wait to show my grade of year 5/6 students! Thanks for posting!
This is the best ball clock I have ever seen! Is there any chance you will post the tutorials and plans for this on your blog?
Great to read that from a professional. Thanks!
I don't believe ...!!! All perfect, hiper creative ... PLEASE don't STOP!!!
That's gorgeous, and totally bonkers! I love it!
That's fascinating, i think we learned something about how regular clocks work too, those of us who didn't know much about how they work already (like me)
Gotta admit, this is probably the best I've seen.
One of the most amazing things That I have ever seen!
有創意的設計,令人愛不釋手
好厲害
This is really cool. Nice work!
Was für eine richtig geile Uhr! Ich hatte eine ähnliche mit Batterien betieben aus Plastik! Sie hat selten richtig funktioniert! So eine geile Uhr wie diese würde ich sofort kaufen!😍👍🏻
This is brilliant, well done and thanks for sharing
very satisfying to watch for some reason
This is really good!! Great job!!!
nice work
This is so satisfying. I wish I had this.
Very good job, a work of genius.
Awesome clock, beautiful workmanship.
Needs a finishing touch, the handwritten numbers in magic marker detract from the beauty. Maybe scroll saw or buy some pre-made brass numbers ?
this was extremely satisfying
Very nice! Good work!
make like a 12 hour long video of just it working. I could watch this forever.
That looks great! And an unusual mechanism, too; most of the ball clocks use an electric motor with one pickup, and the racks tilt along the long axis instead of along the short. I'd be interested in buying a kit if one became available.
Oh wow, a kit of this... Yeah, I might buy one, too. Anyway, this is super cool!
I would definitely buy a kit of this
A máquina ficou fantástica! Rio Brasil
That is awesome! I kinda think that it should roll over at twelve, so as the clock "strikes" midnight, all you hear is "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" (that's marbles rolling)
This is so satisfying
That was cool to watch. Thank you
Really cool project
Very good job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gnomish genius! Make all Gnomes proud!
Very Fine work.
Awesome. Great work..
Nothing short of brilliant.Fantastic engineering you are a GENIUS.Should be very proud of yourself WELL DONE..NOW I want one would you sell one ?
I have similar thing in my house. It is a commercialy available thing called The Time Machine. It does the same thing but is made of plastic. It has a battery or mains transformer powered timer. Every minute an arm rotates to collect a ball bearing from the bottom of the machine and lifts it up to the top where it then rolls down the plastic guides to do the same as yours does. I bought it from the Science Museum in London. Don't know who makes it, as there is no makers label on it and the original box and instructions have long disappeared over the years. Still fascinating to watch though.
Colin Christie I've had one for at least twenty years. It always keeps perfect time when I am watching. But if I leave it, it's off by hours and minutes when I return. I suspect the electric switch inside the seconds wheel, but I've never been ambitious enough to open it and look.
it's better then watching paint dry, honestly I can watch this all day.
Genius! I wonder how long it took to create, from conception to completion?
This is genius! 🙌
Beautiful!
Cool clock you have ther. ^^
Ingeniería Pura! me encanta
This is cool. I want one.
This is brilliant. Any chance of the plans to make one?
Hi Turnvater,
Have watched your pendulum driven ball bearing clock video with joy!
The idea of making something similar appeals to me, and I wondered whether you might be willing to sell a plan of the machine as it must take considerable trial and error to come up with a design that works...
I looked on your site & I didn't see the plans for this anywhere, so is there anywhere that I can get the plans 'cause my wife wants me to make one for her?
The track of the balls are brilliant !!! Ahh ... You're German . This show why the geniality ...
Marvelous ! have you considered staining the woodwork ? i think a nice cedar would look excellent .
You must be old masters style, like Da Vinci. It has a team implementing your ideas ... Your works are too complex to be built ... Video features are great, creative, detail ... Please do not change anything and continue to reward us with your works. Rest assured that every solution that shows us will be used. I am very happy to have the attention of someone so creative ... If you can do something to give back ... Talent is the most valuable entity of the entire cosmos ...
Many many thanks, claudiomar santos. If you like the videos, you may be interested in my photography, too... www.flickr.com/photos/turnvater-janosch/
I saw your photos ... I do not believe,,is so much talent in one person ... I will enjoy one by one, with time ... If you have not done this, do ... !!! Or hire someone to do ... MAKE AN EXHIBITION of your artwork and crafts ... An artist shows us what WE EACH can do ... Therefore you will channeling to all that meet your criteria creations ... lncrível, expose such work is a duty of the designer !!!
Turnvater,
May I please see the Blender file that you mentioned in an earlier post? I would like very much to see more details of your fantastic project!
Thanks
Awesome! I'd love to see the Blender file as well!
it's awesome! it could be used as a clock :D
Ingenious !
A surprise product ever I've seen ! So lovely n so amazing ! Is it available in market, Sir ?
Seconds precision ... ??? So, we would be time precision in medieval medieval times ???Without cpu's, eletricity, precision mechanic or any high tech ??? Congratulations, you are a genius !!! A great and creative genius craftsman !!! Thanks for gift with your creations !!!
Many thanks, claudiomar santos!

Brilliant !!
Hello. Amazing work man! Woul it be possible to get the plans or instructions? I love creating things like this. Once again. GREAT JOB!
Any chance of a tutorial or something like that? I would love to know how you did it.
Just perfect!
Was this clock designed using a computer? Wow, amazing!
one of the few stereotypes Germany should be proud of: their engineering, that and their food :)
Brilliance
Fantastic clock! Are you by any chance going to make plans available? If not might I see the Blender file?
Thanks
This sounds like a really cool project. Could you provide instructions?
This might be the single greatest invention of all time.
Fuck sliced bread.
At about 4:36 I was ready for some bird to come screeching to high hell out of the thing -"COOK A LOODOO DOO ! ... Even on my second time watching.
Well done video! Thank you.
Love it! Would like it to run 30 hourso we have opportunity to "wind" it. 8-day run, like our grandmother clock, would beven better.
Confucius say: *Grandfather clock Wall Clock with no wall.*
Does it run with a electric motor or the functionality of the machine is driven by weight of marbles and pulleys or levers or some type of overbalance mechanism? Excellent design this is.
My cat would have lost it while this was running! LOL
Mesmerizing. Where did you get the idea?
very nice.
P E R F E C T
Which is the precision of the clock? In +-seconds / month.
Absolutely amazing. And no batteries, spring or electricity.
I measured a single time, and it was below 1s / day
Awesome one ! Is one of this clock available for personal use ?
Amazing!!!
if its possible do you still have the plans. I'm interested in making one possibly for christmas gift.
Really cool, did you share your .blend files? I would be curious to enter your Blender's project ^^
Great!
very very impressive! but can it display 0:00 (midnight)? It seems like you glued one ball in place
man, that is cool
There should be a bell that goes off about 30 seconds before the marbles go so that everyone can go and watch them :P
hello, good job. I would love to make my own clock balls, you would have a guide or drawings to get started with the project ... thanks, greetings from chile
Hi, how to ensure the gear move every second precisely? the pendulum could be have different swing speed.
Next, build one that displays the time in 24-hour format.
Awesome, thanks :)
Where can I find the plans for this brilliant machine? Thanks
how could you do that? amazing? I would love to make one myself.... can you share with me???
#brilliant
i LOVE it but how do i build one my self? am i able to by the plans or are they available?
Jg Bernard Je n'ai pas de plans prêts à l'emploi pour l'horloge, mais je peux vous donner le modèle de Blender, si cela aide.
Carl McKenzie
Hi Carl McKenzie ,
I want to publish plans for the clock, but until now I did not find the time. If you provide your email address via personal message, I can send you the blender file.
+Turnvater Janosch just found your video and really liked the model, would it be possible for you to send me the blender file?
+vasco martins k
me gustaria o encantaria saber como lo armaste
y tambien aprender como se fabrican estos jugetes
I want one of these in my house
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!from Australia
I feel sorry for the 1 o'clock ball because it's glued in place and never gets a chance to participate in the fun ferris wheel lift or rolling down the tracks. Every other ball gets a chance to do that, as well as the potential to be the "trigger ball" when major time changes happen. I think ALL the balls in this device should have an equal chance to have an exciting life.
Is it possible for me to request the blender model for this clock? Please let me know how to reach you. Much appreciated, Gert
Amazing
I dont understand do those marbles only show time or also provide energy to run the clock?
