This video brings back great memories of when I was a kid. The music back then was so clean and innocent. I loved all those groups like The DeFrancos, Partridge Family, and the Osmonds. Would love to see the DeFrancos perform together again. Also would love to have an album.
OMG! I, like many other girls in the day of the DeFranco Family, had an ever-undying crush on Tony! I still own 2 each of both their albums! So glad to see this on You Tube!
On this day in 1974 {February 2nd} the DeFranco Family performed "Abra-Ca-Dabra" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'... Two months earlier on December 29th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #32 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #15 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart... They had three records that made the Top 100; their biggest hit was "Heartbeat - It's A Lovebeat", it peaked at #3 on the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...
I watch this and I'm 14 all over again! Thank you so much for posting this. Between my love for the DeFranco Family and the Bay City Rollers I was the whitest black chick in the 70's!
i was born in 62 and remember having pics on my wall of tony, leif, david cassidy, shaun cassidy. We cant forget donny either. all thes videos take me back to a simpler time. Thank you so very much
Such a great looking family. I am so thrilled to see this again. I have often wondered whatever happened to them. I'd love to see them again at these small venues.
Thrilled I stumbled across this - I always hear “Heartbeat” in my head when I think of the DeFrancos, and hadn’t thought of this one in ages. Until tonight. When every. Single. WORD! came back to me and I started singing along at the top of my lungs
I was in Jr High school back then...and going into high school...and it's what we heard on the radio....fun upbeat tunes never to be forgotten. Best music back then...love the 70s and 80s..I am the same age at Tony Defranco.
Tony i love ur singing u nd ur brother and sisters had a good group sad that we don't hear u on the tube but that's ok i got u guys right here in my heart luv u guys tahe care my summer was not good loss my dad back in dec of 2008 and then of this year loss my mom in April but listen to u guys and u guys chair me up i wish i had money to buy all ur CDs i did have all of them where they are now days who knows
brother on the left, DANCIN' !!!!! brother on the right, move move move move move move move don't screw up stay on the beat move move move, you may not be able to dance or sing but they'll still stick you in the backing group
I remember this group but I was really just a very young child in the early 70s. What's too bad is that the group should have held together and leave behind their record company and get independence and write their own material instead having the classic divide and conquer and milk. I really loved this group. ♪♪
Khultan They did just that after producing some non-selling songs. That is what killed the group, busting away from their record company, because no other record company wanted them.
I am glad this song is barely two minutes long. Nice jeans and platform shoes, right out of Superfly. My mom bought me shoes like that back then and I hardly wore them. I guess I rejected bad fad clothes back then too. Smart for a 13 year old.
The Wrecking Crew(Larry Carlton,Hal Blaine and Max Bennett)provided the tight musical accompainment here. Theses guys really kicked ass. Great west coast session musicians.
39,000 views and not ONE thumbs down YES! Must be them so cool bell bottoms ha. Yeah, that's go to be it. So takes us back to our childhood. Kenny Rogers was right, where have them 20 years gone? (and its 30 years for me!)
@mkeulr Hey Tony had a great voice for his age. I bet he can still sing. Why are you a hater? They were pretty huge in `73. Another great pop song here too.
All these ppl arguing over old groups and teen idols... lol. I loved them all! However, Tony was the cutest, just took my breath away and will be in my heart until the day I die. Were we actually talking about MUSIC? lol
I've heard this group described as Canada's answer to the Osmonds. I think that's simplistic and sophomoric. Tony DeFranco clearly had the talent of projecting his voice in a way none of the Osmond boys did.

@@KatyReminiec9399 ...this was February 1974. This was the closest they had to MTV back then.
Lol! I was in love with Tony DeFranco when I was about 10. That was the period between David Cassidy and the Bay City Rollers. Brings back memories!
I can't stop smiling. How innocent and sweet. Catchy little song.
Best memories EVER !!!!!
sally kean Then your life has been pathetically sad.
I JUST LOVED HIM
Wow, these bring back memories! Thank you for sharing!
God, this is brilliant! I love it and can't stop watching it. I remember when they were on the Mike Douglas Show when I was eight.

Love this song.
One of my favorites back then along with the Partridge Family and Osmonds. Tony DeFranco is my age. Music was so much better back then.
Tony DiFranco you are the Greatest and you will always be the Greatest to me.
I like how the song continues to fade as they are taking bows.
We don't have DeFranco Family talent today. They are "legends". Rest in peace DeFranco Family. You "will" be missed.
@geniusorb you have an excellent point and I grew up in the 60's and 7's and it was an awesome era to grow up in with awesome music too.
They are wonderful!!!
Another under-rated pop group from the 1970's, another Canadian Group!
They are wonderful!!!!!!
This makes for a real sunshine day.
The sound effect before "Alacazam" cracks me up every time!
+DoctorMaxMoebius sounds like Scooby scratching.
LOL!!!!!!!Scooby! I like that.
Wow I still remember every word , loved my childhood , lived this music
OMG I was so crazy about this kid when I was 12 to 13!!! 1974 I watched American Bandstand every Saturday waiting for him to appear....lol he did!
Just wait until this kid's voice changes.
I still love this song today, it's very fun song!

That's because they crashed a burned really fast.
I was in Jr High school back then...and going into high school...and it's what we heard on the radio....fun upbeat tunes never to be forgotten. Best music back then...love the 70s and 80s..I am the same age at Tony Defranco.
Great stuff from my childhood, thanks for posting!
If there wasn't any internet or UA-cam, you never would've heard of Bieber. These guys career didn't last long, but at least they got there.
Ah the 70s..when inside any washing machine you could randomly find..a teen pop sensation! Abracadabra indeed...eh?
that was on the Cher show, on CBS after she and Sonny broke up.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!!!!!!
Remember the DeFranco family with cute Tony on television and in tigerbeat magazines. Love their music
They performed this song on this day in American Bandstand history in 1974.
I do agree, it was clean and desent back then.
I loved to hear the DeFranco family when I was a kid, they had great music, something we Don't have today!
Young Tony’s just waiting for the ticking time bomb of adolescence to go off ⌚️
This is so much fun!

Don't forget the Tiger Beat magazine
* I remember at height of Beatlemania era it was called Lloyd Thaxton's tiger Beat when it 1st hit newstands! ☺
and '16' magazine. all the heart throbs were in there
That magazine was geared for teeny bopper girls.
I use to own a pair of those jeans. Love it!
@geniusorb I agree with you...remember, the kids from the 70's are the ones creating all the computers, cell phones, ect..lol
Damn I used to play this on my little Disney record player until the needle wore off!
LOL Bieber won't even be talked about in 5 yrs much less his videos watched in 40 like this one is,
holy crap, i had those same jeans back then...
I looked just like that, at that age! I should have been a big teen idol star...
Yea right.
very beautiful sisters
The Defranco family took up alot of articles in my teen magazines(Tiger Beat).I wonder what ever happened to them.
Tony got into producing and real estate.
Bring back the 70s
LOVE it!! Why can't I find these on Itunes?
My First Crush.... Tony Defranco
I am glad this song is barely two minutes long. Nice jeans and platform shoes, right out of Superfly. My mom bought me shoes like that back then and I hardly wore them. I guess I rejected bad fad clothes back then too. Smart for a 13 year old.
they were on American Bandstand and teen beet and records and on the radio- I remember quite well- I had his poster in my room!
Yes it may not be as famous as Heartbeat it's a lovebeat but it's still another familiar tune by The Defranco Family.
And a great one, too. My favorite by them.
@@q98rt710
💙 I loved both songs 💋
Boy they were a flash in the pan. One minute here, the next minute gone.
I was a member of Tony fan club

abra-ca-dabra...and now those sisters are not ugly
I have this and Heartbeat on 45!
Somebody abra-ca-dabraed his career and it disappeared.
lol
@Ch'iidii
💋I wear press on tats so I can change them.
I'm glad I NEVER wanted kids cause they'd be laughing at these clothes.
wow this is just like the "Bad Romance" video and "Thriller"
@TheOld45man :O) KINGS!!! Wow! Man I feel so fricken old!

Does anyone have the clip of them singing Love The Way You Do playing their instruments. I think that was on American Bandstand
i had such a deep crush over Tony Defranco ,that I named a feral cat after him ( Toni)....I was 11 years old
It might seem cheesy music now but we liked it back then and they had talent good enough to get them out of that shithole that is Port Colborne..
Thank you, Mike Pesca.
A musical family act like the Jacksons and Osmonds of that time.
@mkeulr
Hey Tony had a great voice for his age. I bet he can still sing.
Why are you a hater? They were pretty huge in `73. Another great pop song here too.
All these ppl arguing over old groups and teen idols... lol. I loved them all! However, Tony was the cutest, just took my breath away and will be in my heart until the day I die. Were we actually talking about MUSIC? lol
i'll show you some magik! WOO HOO! LOL!
My pre teen idol Tony Defranco
I've heard this group described as Canada's answer to the Osmonds. I think that's simplistic and sophomoric. Tony DeFranco clearly had the talent of projecting his voice in a way none of the Osmond boys did.
C'mon folks time for Tae-boe with da DeFranco family, not a bad song-not a great one either, but still better than anything on the radio in 2010
The Canadian "Bradys"
