Nurse, Liz. You are such a sweet person. I’m amazed at some of the people who go into healthcare. I don’t know how they can have such a big heart, but it’s amazing. Of course, everything is on a spectrum, and I have had some rather disturbing experiences too. But certain practitioners like you are just amazing. 👍 As a mere patient, it helps watching these videos because I can then be more prepared for whoever enters the room. I know their time is valuable and my feelings is that the easier I can make it for the practitioner, perhaps the better care I’ll get. To a certain extent, it’s probably incumbent upon all patients to do a better job ourselves at helping the practitioner get to the bottom of things.
I really enjoy watching your videos. As a NP doing my training now this is so helpful and makes sense in practice. I hope I can integrate your tips and advice as I start to practice :)
This video is amazing! I just started as a new grad in primary care and I am so excited to start implementing these principles in taking a good history!
Thank you for sharing this. I enjoy watching your videos. How do you manage answering patient's questions that you are unsure about as a new NP and what are some questions you were asked that you remember really digging for that school has not taught you?
Have you watched this video about how to manage questions you might not know the answer to? Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/VfDV8cnqXjQ/v-deo.html and thanks so much!
thank you for this video, extremely helpful, currently in NP school, I have worked in ER for 16 years. Question I have you mention not to mention substance use, with a patient coming in for hematemasis I might be thinking esophageal varices, where alcohol use might be a pertinent question. You would then start asking questions about alcohol or substance use?
Thanks for watching! That is an excellent question and you asked with perfect timing. There are two new RWNP blog posts and podcast episodes covering similar issues. You can find them here: www.realworldnp.com/blog/opiate-use-disorder and www.realworldnp.com/blog/treating-substance-use-disorder. I hope you find these useful!
Hi Michelle! Our website offers transcripts of the video if that would help: www.realworldnp.com/blog. You can also listen the podcast version of the episode (no ads) at www.realworldnp.com/podcast. I hope that helps!
I’m really struggling with the diagnosis part. I started my rotations and have been seeing patients on my own but during my debrief with my preceptor I feel so clueless 😅 I have the answer somewhere in my brain I just can’t pull it out for some reason :/
