  • How did your entire visit get eaten up by getting the HPI? What are you supposed to do in a visit with the complicated patients with 17 chronic conditions?
    I learned many time-management lessons the hard way in my first year of practice, and they're the same patterns I see in my NP students and new grads I've worked with.
    In this video you'll learn time-saving tips to help before, during and after your visits so you can be more timely with your patients (and do less charting at home and on the weekends!).
    PLUS, below this video download another cheat sheet for patient visit "quick text" templates and a sample complicated patient note. Check it out here: www.realworldn...

      I LOVE using that. Most phones seem pretty accurate now, too! Even with medical terms!

    I appreciate you so much! I am a new NP and will be on my own starting Jan 2021! I have a great doc that I work with, but he’s letting the reigns go in Jan. I am nervous and your imposter syndrome video really resonated with me. Even though I’m an ER nurse at heart, I am now a primary care provider. I love all your videos!!!!

    Hello! so glad I found your channel as a soon to be graduate NP this august. your videos have been so informative!
    I was wondering if you have any tips on how to excuse yourself from the room to look up information. I always feel weird coming up with something to say basically stating "I will be right back" haha

    Liz...I seriously love these videos and I wish I wasn't this late to the game seeing these as a new PA! Thank you!!
    Side note, I did see bright blue colored urine (we called it cotton candy urine!) in the hospital laboratory while I was a med tech a fair amount of times from various medications. If I hadn't seen it myself I probably wouldn't believe it!

    How do you know what measure requirements are due?..mine always show up at rhe end after I've seen the patient, then i have to backtrack...any pointers to prevent the backtracking??

    • @RealWorldNP

      It's nice when EHRs let us know ahead of time - it may be helpful to have a quick text reminder for yourself to check the metrics/measurements needed to chart at the start of the visit, and/or letting your management/IT people know that that would be a helpful adjustment of the EHR to get those prompts at the beginning. Some offices, the medical assistants are trained to ask those sorts of questions - PHQ2, tobacco use, etc.

      @@RealWorldNP thank you for that suggestion. Practicing at the nursing home, I am my own staff. Your tips are valuable.
      This transition has been ..... difficult to say the least.

    How would you write your HPI with patients that have multiple concerns?

    • @RealWorldNP
      @RealWorldNP  Рік тому

      You can address each concern systematically in the hpi. Just be sure to completely cover pertinent information for each complaint.

    I have been rewatching your videos from the moment I found them while I was in school. Three weeks from now, I will be starting my first NP job. I'm lucky to be in a very good healthcare system that really takes care of new APPs. Your videos give me confidence! Thank you for all that you do!!
