that E9sus to E13b9 chord run you are messing with at the beginning is a killer intro to anything in A. i just had to steal it. thanks a felt 'n meltin' million once again Robin.
Hi there - thanks a lot, just have found this beautiful lesson ...4 years later, as you say.. nevertheless its very nice and helpful - I am in Moscow, Russia if you're really interested to know:) Thank you very much!
Nice one my friend glad it help! We have a live lesson happening this evening too I think you will like www.gypsyjazztransfusionclub.com/oi-230107-join-the-free-webinar
Don't know how old this post is, but glad I found you Robin! Good lesson, thanx! from old guy from Santa Barbara now hiding in Northern Idaho. I need all the help possible w/jazz, especially the loosy-goosey Django style, again, thanx Robin!!
Hi from Shellharbour NSW. As always I am learning from your lessons. After nearly fifty years of self-taught bad habits I am having to UNLEARN a lot too, but as a fingerpicker it is the right hand picking I am finding the most difficult. I am hanging in there though, I'll get it one day. Thanks.
Hi Chris - so good to hear you’re enjoying the lessons... yes the right hand pick can be tricky. I’ve never obsessed with it and have always played the way I naturally do. Try to get that floating wrist and make sure you practice a little rhythm every day... just 5 minutes! Cheers, Robin
Hey i come from france in normandy! I lke your video an your powers.I always like the manouche music, but i haven,t the times for learning. But since few months, i started to learn ,and your video are amazing for learning the jazz manouche.thank you! if you come in france near caen i will happy to meet you for talk and play guitar and eat drink a good local produce.
❤🎆🎶🎸🎻Cold sunny afternoon in Sydney. Love hearing your special manouche fanfare at the beginning. Your XXX is mirrored by mine over here. Pity the sound isn't an echo (yet). I like the Father's Day card too. Resting the right hand on the strings between funks is a good idea on such a resonant guitar. Going over these tunes keeps sparking off new ideas. What I particularly learned was the Devils' chord: substituting the Ab7 for the D7. Can't wait to see how you move through the F#-7b5 B7 E- section. That sounded great! Thanks Robin.
yes that Ab7 is perfect on Nuages....and highlights the function of the tri-tone substitution. yes I should show you that fanfare at the beginning - got that from Wawau Adler! Robin
27:41 YOU GET THE PICTURE ( Smile) ! 🌷🌷❤️ his man . What a CLASS ACT . UPDATE : what a WORLD CLASS ACT you are . Hey hey , Mick from Multnomah Village in Portland Oregon watching, rewinding , watching, rewinding ... 2 days after Thanksgiving 2020 this wonderful learning video. What a treasure at my fingertips and everyone else's who has the privilege and joy of watching you at work and do what you probably love to do best after your family playing guitar & teaching. You absolutely break things down to the little bit of pieces that put the puzzle together to the BIG picture / tune . You were working some chords (27:28-31) and a huge smile came to my face, caused the lights in my brain to light up probably the whole spectrum of synapse. Thank you once again for changing my life in a huge positive way. Have a great day. Oh One more thing as you do in your chord substitutions you could probably substitute New Amsterdam for New York - laugh laugh have a great day. MVM Multnomah Village Mick
You surely played that for ages man :D so much accuracy. I did learn your soloing chords for Minor swing, superb lesson it totally opened a whole world.
WAW just great ideas here ! I adore ! i learned gypsy guitare many years ago but found it too difficult specially with so smal hands and fingers like me ...but this video give me wish to restart dear Robin ! Thanks a lot ! ( Nuage is my favorit song from Django and I adore funk - after gypsy jazz and Django of course)
Just some question please - Is it exist your backing track somewhere I could downloud or bue - I'd like so much to present it on my lessons in Berklee -I'm singer in specialisation there online) Thanks a lot Robin .
Near Gainesville, Fl. Great discussion and ideas. Thanks Robin!. I wish I could go to NYC...but instead I am spending the month of November in the south of France... Carcassonne. Any Manouche players there?
hey jerry glad the lesson helps.........I'm sure there are manouche players in Carcassonne but don't know any off hand - sounds like a great trip! Robin
I am trying to learn “Nuages” form Django Reinhardt’s relatives. They are here from Alsace France. Sandro Lorien and Pequito Lorier Weis. A father son duo, touring in Chicago, IL, and St. Louis, MO.
Watching from just 150 km from Amsterdam. I have a little question: I'm a beginner to gypsy jazz and I am starting off with rhythm and learning chords before I go to lead playing. I was wondering if I should look up sheet papers of songs to memorize the chords or just learn the chords and try to learn some songs by ear. Also: what are some important chord progressions in gypsy jazz? Thank you!
welcome and thanks for the comment........you should do a combination. Check out the chords on a chart THEN put them to memory. Of course if you don't need the chart at all then no worries. This is a good place to start www.gypsyjazzcrashcourse.com all the best, Robin
Hi gypsyguitars, I have just received my Polak XXX guitar. I can see what you mean: it is very light and resonant, and sustains so much that the tone is quite like a good nylon classical guitar. The silk and steel strings help too.
Just some question please - Is it exist your backing track somewhere I could downloud or bue - I'd like so much to present it on my lessons in Berklee -I'm singer in specialisation there online) Thanks a lot Robin .P.S. Will there be your workshops in NY this year in summer ?
How does one get into this music? I can listen to almost any kind of music but the fret buzz makes the timbre repulsive. Not to mention the least melodic lines ever. It’s like half diminished and dominant chords and have buzzy technique and now that’s gypsy jazz. I realize I sound like a purist or perhaps just an idiot but I actually want to be enlightened as to how someone would come to like this music.
Four years later, this lesson is still alive, fantastic and kicking!! Thank you!
