High speed sync is such a game changer.. I no longer have to bring genies or heavy power packs to override the sun AND I'm able to shoot wide open to control my focus.. One quick tip. Bring empty one gallon water jugs and fill them up when you get to location to replace those weights!
Totally agree! I love HSS Andy :)
Great video! Thank you for posting. I appreciate your teaching... the content, the pace, and the inclusion of what you appreciated and also what you would have like to have changed.
Safety is crucial, and not only being safe but helping your model feel safe is key. These weights are a great help and I'm glad they're getting recognition.
I loved both images, but the 85 won me over. I also loved seeing the sandal set sail at the four minute mark. Keep up the great work!
You're very welcome! Hahaha I'm glad you noticed the sandal. Thanks for the feedback on the video Thomas :)
Great video as always! Love the studio lighting look too 👏
Thanks Miguel I've been experimenting with new setups for my videos. :)
Great tutorial! Thank you. I loved the tip about getting the ambient lighting settings first. I think that will help me as a budding hobbyist photographer. I like your enthusiasm, too. I'll be subscribing to you on UA-cam. Thanks again.
You're welcome Jay! Let me know if you have any questions :)
I live in the mountains and there’s rarely a day without wind. I’ve embraced the windy look a long time ago. Lol. These are both stunning. I can’t choose
Haha here in Texas windy days aren't as frequent. What do you do on your windy days?
@@EliInfante I have a pair of godox ad 200s that I’ll use with the small reflector. Much like what you’ve shown. The only way really unless I have someone extra to help
Loved it! Will keep streaming and watching your videos as much as I can with ofc liking it and commenting 💜
You're the best!
Good stuff as always!!!! For the fill light is there are ratio you always start at then fine tune (looking to speed up my sessions so I am not adjusting but shooting) Both are great as always, but like the motion in the 35mm.
I don't have a ratio. Instead, I decide power based on my vision for the shot. My general rule is to keep my fill light subtle.
Great work! Love both images but probably lean towards the 35mm shot. Thanks for sharing your process.
Thank you JT! Thanks for taking time to write feedback :)
Excellent. Ambient exposure is something that most people don't know makes your exposure look right but different settings. Well done, sir.
Thanks Miguel 😁
Excelente trabajo Eli !! Tenia 35mm, 50mm y 85mm (todos Sigma Art). Al final solo me he quedado con el 50mm Art. Para planos cerrados y aislar más al modelo 105mm
I love the 105mm but found it to be too big to fit in my camera bag. I'm sure I'll purchase it eventually :)
As informative always..Love the 35mm shot.!!
Love the 35mm look because I love that you can still see the beautiful sunset clearly... 😍😍
Totally agree!
Beautiful photos! When I’m in windy conditions I frequently use a reflector + diffusion sock, which I call my “wind resistant modifier”.
Thanks Chris! Hahaha yes I usually use my reflector on windy days but I forgot it during the 1 mile hike to the location. I need to try the diffusion sock. Have you noticed a difference with and without it?
@@EliInfante Less harsh highlights.
@@EliInfante re
You have "the best" tutorials and explanations. Both photos are gorgeous, however I'm going to have to choose the 85mm shot. Thanks so much!
I always appreciate it Lisa! Have a wonderful day :)
35 mm! Love your flow and your work! Thanks to watching you I purchased an FJ400 and two FJ80's and 2 FJx2ms, Working on purchasing a second FJ400. Absolutely amazing equipment!
That is awesome John! How do you like the Westcott gear?
@@EliInfante The gear is affordable, a short learning curve with an easy-to-use menu system that visible without my reading glasses. It's also quick to deploy and tear down on location and durable. I was inspired listening to you talk about your style and gear when interviewed by Joe Edelman and looked into the gear you were using and haven't looked back. My other purchases are numerous Westcott umbrellas, rapid boxes and other accessories including the diffuser dome for my FJ80’s The build quality is amazing and support when making purchase is absolutely top notch. One last thing Purchased 2 of the FJ-XR wireless receivers, and this gave me the ability to control my other brand speedlights and strobe from my Westcott trigger. It feels great to know that all I have backups of crucial gear and it’s all the same brand this allows me to swap a battery and such with out worry. Love your videos and the others from the Westcott team. I have a lot to learn still but I can say with confidence if someone is just getting started or was like me had a mixture of flashes and strobes Westcott will not only make your life a heck of lot easier but will let you focus on getting the shot not your gear.
@@johnbivins Wow great to hear John! I'm happy that you're enjoying the system. If you ever have questions feel free to reach out to me on Instagram. Have a great day! :)
Loved your style, and how concise everything was on your video!
Thank you so much David! Have a wonderful day!
Stunning photos!!!!
Thanks so much!
Your explanation as better than university teacher i really like your speed . Thank you for sharing to us♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thank you, Bay Wat! That's my goal for my videos! To make it as educational and easy to follow 😁
For me personally I love the 35mm ....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great work! and very informative
Glad it helped Rickie! Let me know if there is anything specific you would like to see on the channel.

Great work! Just got my FJ400s in last Tuesday and I'm anxious to put them to work and see what they are capable of. I've gotten by with Alienbee B800s for the past 15 years. They have served me well, but HSS is definitely going to be a game changer for me. Keep up the good work, just subscribed!
Awesome, Brian. I'm sure you're going to love them. If you have any questions, message me on Instagram, and I would love to help.
@@EliInfante Thank you!! I just used them yesterday for the first time and was blown away. I sent you an image on Instagram. Thanks again for all the effort you put forth to share your knowledge. I have a homesteading UA-cam channel, so I know how much goes into all of this, haha. Keep up the great work!
@@Brian-ud6uj Awesome man! I'll check my Instagram 😁
Both look great but I’m in love with 85mm look…Fantastic work as usual
Its that bokeh! :)
Simply brilliant
Thank you! :)
I have both sigma lenses, they are awesome. I use more the 35 1.2. Thanks a lot for the video man!!!! the photos are really awesome!!!
My pleasure! The Sigma f/1.2 is a beast.
@@EliInfante and heavy!!!🤣🤣🤣😉😉
Haha for sure!
Really nice work. I like both images but favor the 85mm second shot. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the input David :)
Great Explanations to the flash and off flash settings.... thx a lot ^^ Greetings from Hamburg Germany ;-)
Glad it was helpful!
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing photos as always! Just getting into high speed sync really appreciate your knowledge to photography. When silly question I know it may sound silly but what exactly is a rim light and is a rim light always necessary??
Erik light is used to add shape behind the subject.
So good
Excellent work
Thank you!
I assume your default or go-to lighting set up is 45 and 45 - 45 degrees off camera angle & 45 degrees shooting down at the subject. Do you ever shoot across the subject to create more shadows or, according to your style of beauty photography, do you usually seek to minimize or fill in shadows? Also, if I favor my 85 mm Prime, is it worth trekking a mile to beautiful location with 2 10-lb. weights, if I'm I intend to blur out or darken the background anyway?
Respect you sir......You sharing tutorial video.......
It's my pleasure Shafeer!
I tried it! Came out good!!!
Wonderful!
Thank you, Great video
You are welcome!
Both pics are gorgeous
You're gorgeous
Hi Eli, have and issue trying to use the HSS with my sony A7RIV, Although que pongo en off el front silent curtain shutter im still getting the shutter curtain shadows, any tips
You need to use mechanical shutter when using strobes.
@@EliInfante Hi Eli, of course I put off on the silent curtain shutter, I can do strobe normally but when trying high speed sync it seems not be working because I still get black banding parts on the pictures when going at speeds above 250, I used to have the a73 before never got these problem, so I don't know if I am configuring something wrong Im using the westcotts fj400 with the Westcott FJ-X2m Strobe Trigger, maybe Im doing something wrong there, thanks
Bro, you are a GOD, thank you for such a well-made video. Thank you so much you're a beast!!!!!
You're welcome!
Great work! Quick question, for outside work, do you use AWN or flash WB?
Outdoors AWB and for studio shoots Flash WB 😁
Helo eli please haw are you exporting your pictures to keep the quality
I have a video on my channel on how I export for Instagram 😁
Dream shots they are both incredibly beautiful.
Thank you so much! Have a wonderful day 😄
Sheeeeeesh that’s hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hahahah thanks!
Amazing
Thank you so much! More videos coming out soon 😁
35mm was my fav! Great content!
Mine too!
Amazing 💞
Thank you! Cheers!
Sirley and I love the 85mm
Great job
Thank you!
Muy bien chingon, saludos desde monterrey México.
Gracias Pedro!
Great stuff. Both images are stellar but the 85mm is my pick
The 35mm is my favourite. Just looks better to my eyes than the 85mm, just a personal preference as they’re both beautiful.
35mm is my lens!
Esta bueno bro
Gracias Luis! :)
What software do you use for your editing and final work
Capture one and Photoshop. I have tutorials on my channel.
Both of lens has good so nice 😊
I think so too!
wow my friend it's a great video, thanks for all tips, and my fav photo is 85 mm, i loved that mood.
Un gran trabajo, wow, en verdad me encantó. Hey #wescott lights are awesome, i love it. ok big hugs bro, waiting for another video, see you next one.
Glad you enjoyed it! 85mm is my bokeh lens :)
Nice sir photography 👌
Thanks Kore 🙂
Why when you add the flash does the background get lighter? If the speed is set how does HSS increase the level of background light?
The ambient light changes throughout each shot.
how do you get the lights to flash just once at the time you push the shutter button? My FJ400's do three flashes each time, no matter what setting I seem to have it on.
I have my canon or sony set to single shot.
If you have red eye reduction turned on make sure to turn it off.
You mentioned 10lb counterweights, do you have link to the heavier ones? I see you have the link to the 3lb versions. I so need these after trying sandbags and my Apollo toppling over a few times.
@@leodejongful Yes! That is why I would like the 10lb versions more then the 3lb versions.
That was my fault since the modifier was facing the wind.
On Amazon I could only find 3lb and 15lb. You can find the full range on Adorama 😁
@@EliInfante It happens when trying to match the cross light from both sides. One will always get the brunt of the wind coming across! I called Westcott and they mentioned the best weight on the stands to protect those modifiers.... is a Human Weight ^_^
What a beautiful location light. I preferred the 35mm focal length; I like 85mm as a focal length, but it lost a bit of the sublime beauty of the scene.
Totally agree
35mm 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
35mm FTW!
Fregón maestro !!! La de 35 mm me hace mas participativo en la escena, tenga mi suscripción y like buen hombre!!
Gracias Yomero!
How did you hike with you gear for a mile?
I used an outdoor wagon cart.
THANKYOU
Thank you for watching!
Nice!!$
most useful for me
Glad you think so!
Both look good. Wide is more dramatic imho. The 85 looks good too. Where did you learn your editing? Just subscribed to phlearn. Interested in learning retouching. Im a newbie at editing. Im familiar withsal del rey. Im also from the valley. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Daniel! Maybe we can shoot one day in the RGV.
Just purchased the fj400 to use with my sonny a7iii, but the exposure on the screen doesn’t move. It can be 1/500 or 1/8000 and no change on the screen. This only happens when I have my flash trigger. When I take it off it works fine. Please advise
That is a mirrorless camera issue. You can assign a shortcut key to your Sony camera to give you the actual results. If you search SonyA7iii camera settings on my channel, you will see what I'm talking about.
@@EliInfante Thank you so much for taking your time to point me to the right direction. You have great content. Saludos
@@salvadorgalvan5024 You're welcome! Thank you for the support, man! Have a great day 😁
hi bro, i bought the westcott fj400 and the trigger with adapter for my sony a7iii but the hss doesn't work for me, could you help me? since I'm desperate because I can't find a solution, with another trigger and another flash if the hss works.
Did you purchase the Sony adapter? That enables HSS
@@EliInfante if I bought it, he weird part is that I can go higher than 1/200 but I get banding on the images, I when around all over the menu ( e-front curtain shutter off, silents Mode off., wireless flash set, TTL, Manual, HSS set on flash, everything but still doesn’t work.
Also the camera doesn't show the flash/Hss icon when an external flash or trigger is connected.
@@rauldavidcb2516 Can you message me through Instagram. That way I can help via video.

I do like them both, I personally like the 85mm

i like the 85mm photo more :) but the both look great
Totally agree!
85mm 😍
Thanks for tuning in Claudio!
for me 35mm will be better I want to be close to my subject lol. It always nice to watch you videos learn allot
Great point man! I agree I'm not used to being far away anymore hahaha.
I reallly wanna do this but with a hasselblad 500cm
Do it!!!
Good 👍
Thank you!
Definitely for me 85 mm it is my favourite focal length 😉
Yes I love the 85mm. 🙌🏻
These weights are so much better to carry than actual sandbags, nice!
Totally Charlie! I love them for studio and on location portraits.
Did the flash just figure out what power to use? Or did you have to experiment
I eyeball it with practice Jeanne.
I like the 35mm look
The 35mm looks likes you!
Better than FJH imo, but both of you are awesome
FJH is awesome! I've learned a lot from him 😁
85mm all the way , love the pic - if only can afford these lights 👍
Save up for them! You got this :)
I prefer both, 35 and 85. My two lens.

por que no haces contenido en espa;ol? seria muy interesante, mas para mi que no se mucho ingles y admiro tu trabajo, como yo seguro hay mas personas tambien que te siguen, un saludo.
Hopefully one day! 😁
