The Belarusian village that vanished off the face of the Earth

- I went to the former village of Khatyn just north of #minsk in #belarus one of the scenes of one of the most notorious war crimes of WW2. I also talk about the attempts at rewriting history and the rehabilitation of those who carried out these atrocities.

Come and See movie (1985) - ua-cam.com/video/zjIiApN6cfg/v-deo.html
You are walking on graves of Polish petty nobelty who lived there and got muredered. No, I am not making a mistake, Chatyn/khatyn was populated by Polish farmers and it is not the same as Katyn near Smoleńsk. The monument in the cemetery depicts 56 y.o. Józef Kamiński, a Poliish village blacksmith that survived the massacre and inferno.
The massacre was headed by the infamous SS-Sturmbannführer Oskar Dirlewanger of 118 Batallion Schutzmannschaft, later responsible for murdering Poles in 1944.
What a travesty that only 20 people liked this video. Is it that hard for 1,800 people to hit like? You more than deserved a like. Thank you again for being real and candid about this sensitive topic.
Thank you for this video. I value every video you publish and I appreciate everything you do to help our country. Belarus will never forget. Never.
the scariest thing is that this was not just a one off event, it was one of many thousands of communities to just vanish in the war
As a Canadian that was a totally embarrassment. Just shows the incompetency of our government.
Beautiful and moving video. Those chimes are gut wrenching to hear. Well done for taking a stand in a mad world. ❤
I was born in the Byelorussian SSR in 1970, which was part of the USSR at the time and is now Belarus. I grew up in the Soviet Union and completed my high school education there. My teachers were veterans of World War II. We had meetings with the veterans of World War II two or three times a year. I had neighbours who were participants in World War II, or as they called it in the Soviet Union, the Great Patriotic War. This is how I heard many stories about those times. My grandmother was 41 in 1941, and I heard many stories from her. There was one veteran that I helped. Mostly, I gave him a lift when he needed it or brought some items to him from a shop. The veterans always gathered together on May 9 (local Victory Day). The government representatives gave them cash payments and organised some modest banquets with concerts by school pupils. And then he shared with me how it all was. In 2012, he told me that the organisers of those meetings added some brief political overviews to the veterans' gatherings, and he was told that Ukrainians burned those Khatyn people in 1943, not Germans. And that was kind of a revelation for him. The same was true for me. I had always been taught in the Soviet school that it was German SS soldiers who were responsible. I understand now that it was just the beginning of the political tensions between Russia and Ukraine. This is what the current Russian propaganda says: that Ukrainian Nazis killed Soviet people during World War II and today Ukrainian Nazis have come to power in Ukraine, and Russians have to save the world. Oh, dear!
It's because the Ukrainian Banderites did engage in mass murder in WW2 of Jews, Poles, Roma, Belarusians etc and were direct accomplices in the Holocaust. This is historical fact. It's also fact that the very same forces through US help have seized Ukraine with the US now using the Ukrainian working class men as proxies in their war against Russia, all the while they and the local comprador, parasitic capitalist class continue in the looting of Ukraine under the convenient cover of 'democracy' and 'freedom'.
Dear Niall, thank you for reminding of creepy nazi terror. Yes, you were completely right, when you mentioned Croatia in the Khatyn's context. During the WWII ukrainian nationalists were absolute twins of croatian nationalists ("ustasha") with their concentration camp Jasenovac and massacres of serbs, jews and gypcies. What's interesting: after WWII many of ukrainian and croatian nationalists (first of all, Ante Pavelic and Stephen Bandera) have fled to West with help of British secret services, and then they were used by SIS against USSR and Yugoslavia. For example, Australian military intelligence had been preparing croatian "ustasha" terrorists, who commited a few murders and other acts of terror between 1963 and 1973. That explains, why Jaroslav Gunko was welcomed by the Canadian parliament, since Canada and Australia are members of British Commonwealth, and after WWII a lot of "ustasha" and "banderivtsi" have settled there. Ukrainian and Croatian nationalists are the perfect instrument for igniting civil wars, what was proved by jugoslavian and ukrainian history.
His name is Jarosław Hunka, officer of SS Galizien, the ukrainian SS Galizien, serving 3rdReich was organizing mass murder of Polish civilians in the Wołyń and East Małopoplska region, województwa Łuck, Stanisławów, Tarnopol, Lwów. At least 250 thousand Poles, mostly women, children, infants and elderly were besta;lly tortured, mutilated and murdered by bands of Ukrainian villagers led by SSGaliziem equipped with arms supplied by German administration and assured impunity. This beast received standing ovation by whole chamber of Canadian parliament, presidents Zelensky and Trudeau. BTW PresidentKuchma admitted to half a million Polish victims of SS Galizien and UPA, but this info has evaporated since.
My relatives would like to thank you for bringing this to the public.
Ive been there and its one of the most saddest places I have ever been
Love to see more of this content niall 💯👍🇮🇪🤝🇵🇸🇷🇺
One of the few people doing videos like this. Excellent 👌 Often hidden in the west.
‘Khatyn (Belarusian: Хаты́нь, romanized: Chatyń, pronounced [xaˈtɨnʲ]; Russian: Хаты́нь, pronounced [xɐˈtɨnʲ]) was a village of 26 houses and 157 inhabitants in Belarus, in Lahoysk Raion, Minsk Region, 50 km away from Minsk. On 22 March 1943, almost the entire population of the village was massacred by the Schutzmannschaft Battalion 118 …..’.
Thank you for going there and doing this. I have seen “Come and See” the movie about Khatyn.. It is seared in my psyche. I sometimes wish I could unsee the images. Your commentary was so respectful.
Stalin ordered the Katyn hit on Polish intellectuals. Just seeing the wiki on this incident that admits to be a lil cover story on the greatest crime of ww2.
Yes that was like a true story to this event ,that film is scary 😮
I am a Canadian... and I am ashamed of my government and all its elected stooges.
Canada is a proud NATO member and contributed to European peace and global order for decades. Be proud of your Canadian heritage. Your country has done great work keeping the likes of Russia and Belarus contained within their borders.
@@AndrewTubbiolo There is no pride in repression of sovereign states and preventing them from their own destiny. Suppression leads to alternatives either through theft or self-development. Import-substitution becomes the goal, no matter the cost. Kowtowing or slavery is not survivable. Canadian heritage has been indigenous elimination and now extends to Canadian citizens. Outside my door is evidence of this and in the coming winter months, there are tents everywhere and as a result, even now in October, are severe illnesses and death from poor nutrition and cold not attributable to drugs and alcoholism. The idea that containment is 'great work' is disgusting to humanity. We witness this in Gaza.
Are you talking of Iraq Libya Syria or Afghanistan?
@@rjames3981 Sovereign countries are their own business but these countries that you indicate are countries that the US has invaded and steal their oil, or don't you know. US military bases in these countries are to maintain this theft for US oil companies for the benefit of US shareholders and not for any citizens. Red herrings abound to obscure the main intent of greed and possession of wealth, though now it is only paper. The chairman of GoldmanSachs is disposing of his shares in that company. He knows better than me what is happening.
@@rjames3981 There is of course the Russian involvements in those countries to consider of course. Look how many decades of regression those nations suffered due to Soviet/Russian involvement.
Огромное спасибо за Вашу позицию и рассказ о преступлениях нацистов!
Interesting stuff mate. I believe the superb WW2 film 'Idi i Smotri?' or Come and See in English, featured some of these events during its filming and is the best and most heartbreaking WW2 film I've ever seen and I would urge everybody to watch. It's a shame others are afraid to speak out about the way the current global situation is moving towards fascist states. And states that once fought Hitler and The Oswald Moseley's Blackshirts in London's East End now embrace similar policies which millions gave their lives to fight off.
PS,I wonder if you could do a piece on the true story behind the film Defiance at some stage? I'm sure you know of or will research those circumstances as they took place in and around Belarus in the early 1940s.
I have left the link for the movie in the video description.
Very moving and should never be forgotten. Well done for flagging up. RIP the people of Bylrus.
Nice to see you mate, thanks for the Vlog.
Your historical vids are great! Lookout Mark Felton!
Went there in 2002 it’s certainly changed since then it’s a very eerie place . Another place you need to visit when the weather improves is Village Dudutki museum,
Thank you for the video Niall the truth ! ❤
Belarus looks like a beautiful place to visit blessings from ireland
Thank you for this video. Poignant and moving. May their memories, and the memories of all who suffered mercilissly under Nazism, be eternal.
Excellent video Partizan
Thank you for your knowledge of history and coverage of this terrible event ,hope to the Lord nothing like this will happen again😢🙏🏼
Good Vlog Niall. Well said….Neil
Mooie video, goed gedaan en goed gezegd, groeten uit Holland.
Thank you for the video. Was there in 1993. Very solom place. Do not hear to much about who actually committed the atrocity at Khatin. Very moving memorial.
You're welcome John. Thanks for the feedback.
Great vid I.P. Nice to see you back. Iam actually reading a book at present, catch it if you can ‘Ukrainian Nationalists and the Holocaust’ by John Himka. Well worth a read, terrible things happened in Galicia along with Belarus. The history is complex in this part of the world and nothing is black and white. Thanx for posting. 😊
Well presented.
I'd love to visit. What's the best way to get there from Ireland atm?
great short video btw
I am sad of what happened in the Canadian parliament. There are Nazis in Canada.
Would / Could you recommend to come to Minsk in Mid of November ??
Unfortunately, people are not well read these days. I enjoy reading military history and one of my favourites is ‘Operation Barbarossa’ by Max Hastings. It explains the horrors of nazi Germany and how Russians fought them to survive. I truly admire Russians and Benlarussians.
What you don't know though, this village was populated by Polish farmers and they fell victim of the massacre. The monument of the man holding a child in his hands depicts a village blacksmith Józef Kamiński, 56, a Pole, who survived the massacre and inferno.
Thanks for this information.
Well said mate..... I'm sure that history isn't a lesson now in schools..... if it is , it about computer science. And how the zx85 was the first home computer Hahahahahaha
Did Bald do a vid of this place?
Yes he did but it was a very brief stop. Bald's main focus is on entertainment, mine is info.
Great to see you back! Have you seen the movie Come And See!?
I sure have. I have left the link in the video description.
@@IrishPartizanthe director of that film was a Bellarusian survivor of the genocide. I read when it came out in 1985 ex german soldiers said the depiction was 100% correct.
@@IrishPartizannot there. U2be thought police prob cut it out likenrhey cut out other posts innthis vids comments
Hopefully history won't repeat itself. If it does humanity will have failed forever.
khatyn not the same place where 22,000 polish military servicemen were executed by the soviets in spring of 1940 , what about soviets genocide in eastern Europe , and russia as well , i never approve nazi war crimes but i cant understand why soviets crimes not even mentioned
I already have mentioned the crimes committed by the Soviets at Kurapaty just outside Minsk. It's in the video library. Yes the Allies too committed war crimes in WW2 - Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Dresden, Leipzig, Bengal etc.
@IrishPartizan And what caused the atomic bombs in Japan, the Bombing of Dresden, Leipzig
And do you count the Bombing of Coventry Glasgow Edinburgh in the same breath??.
IE: Dont start a war and expect the same Heavy Bombing not to be carried out by people you Blitzkrieg.
Newton's third law states that any action is countered by a reaction of equal magnitude.
damnnnn.. imagine how many cemetaries aren't landmarked these days tho.. how many ppl have died over the thouands of years and where are all the remains? these cemetaries don't last forever.. we probably all ontop of dead people as we speak
This village, you spelled as Khatyn, should be spelled as CHATYŃ was a Polish village whereas Polish farmers lived, the were called szlachta zagrodowa meaning petty nobelty that farmed their own plots with their own hands without hired workers. In 1863 they were deprived nobelty title by thsa Alexander IInd, as repression for the 1863 January national liberation uprising. Viktor Yanukowicz, former president of Ukraine comes from such village in Belarus, called Yanuki, located in Vitebsk region, he was raised by his grandma from Warsaw.
Thanks for this info. I might do a video on the 1863 January Uprising. It took place within the background of a spate resurgent 19th century nationalist movements - 1848 Revolutions, the Italian Risorgimento, etc. Speaking of nobility, I am from the Irish nobility myself. However we lost everything after the defeat of the Irish Jacobites at the Treaty of Limerick in 1691 and the subsequent anti Catholic Penal Laws
@@IrishPartizan Britain played important role in this and many other Polish uprising, the main purpose was to block healing process of Polish-Russian relationship, bring about weakening and destruction to both nations.
Remembering all the Polish officers and civilians who perished here.
That's Katyn, not Khatyn.
@@IrishPartizan Sorry, but the similar names misled me. Katyn is of course in Russia not Belarus.
Howdy 🤠
Why on earth was a member of the SS given a standing ovation in the Canadian government ? Can someone please explain ?
The West is trying to rewrite history to make Russia look like the aggressor in the current conflict. They want people to think that Fascism and N a z i s are good and that the Soviets were the aggressors in WW2.
Ignorance, mental gymnastics, groupthink. Their announcement was clap for this ukranian who fought the russians in ww2, ignoring those were naughtys, german and not german. Zalynsky knew exactly who he was fist pumping. He knows all about stephan bandara, ukranian ss, azov batallion, etc. Enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Trudeau’s father Pierre was a québécois fascist and supporter of Vichy France Germany Fascist Italy and Spain until 1945.
Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland had a Nazi Grandfather Michael Chomiak - like thousands of Ukrainian ‘nationalists’ he escaped to Canada after WW2. 5 per cent of the population of Ukraine is now of Ukrainian descent.
Depression video
The video is uploaded on 30th of October, they day of remembrance of representatives of the Belarusian and Jewish intelligentsia, as well as figures of culture, science and art who was killed in the night of October 29-30, 1937 by communists. There is a memorial (and a former mass grave of the communists victims) on the outskirts of Minsk called Kurapaty that tells this story. Hope one day you will share it to your audience as well.
Already have - ua-cam.com/video/NeJC39LXWPA/v-deo.html
How about Poles murdered in Kuropaty by GPU in 1938 thousands out of the documented by name number of 111 thousand in a single year of 1938, apart from this#, the 3872 Poles murdered by NKVD in Kuropaty in March-May 1940, and about same equal number murdered in 1945, are they worth mentioning?
