    I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (January 2, Christmas 2), this was our Gospel of the Day, as it is on this Sunday every year (January 2-5). BTW, John 1:1-14 is usually read on Christmas Day.

    I just thought it would be helpful for others to add two particular things I noticed that stood out to me: 1) Word is capitalized, giving further emphasis to The One John is referring to and 2) in 1:5 when it says, "the darkness has not overcome it", it made me think of the post-flood time when the 200 angels mingled with the daughters of men and took wives for themselves. It's said that Satan wanted to bring about his own in the earth in order to corrupt the seed of the woman and eventually outnumber the human race because of what God said to him in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15). But obviously we see that Satan DID NOT overcome the Word of God and the seed of the woman DID crush his head (which I think is a pretty amazing connection).

      Interesting thoughts. What informed your understanding of Genesis 3:15?

      @@DavidHillREACHTableView Well, with all honesty, I’m not no theologian 😅. I really can’t remember the name of the documentary, but once I saw a documentary about the book of Enoch that gave insight concerning this. I don’t believe it’s a proven fact that it was Satan or maybe just the fallen angels that wanted the world for themselves, but I do know that there came a point when things got brutal. I think (I can’t remember all the details) that the fallen angels eventually turned on humans and ruled them harshly- also often taught as “Greek metrology”- but in those days the world was very wicked and mankind was corrupt. But we can imagine what a feast Satan must’ve have with the whole world worshiping the creature instead of the creator.
      I’m very sorry I can’t back up my comment with more than this. I will leave the link or at least the name of the documentary belong so that you can watch it if you’d like.

      The Greek word is, logos and wasn't capitalized in the original writings or at least the earliest copies we have.

      Jesus said:
      “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

    That is the truth.........Jesus is the son of God and the messiah. Read scripture from the beginning to the end and you will not see that God has the office of ''Messiah''.

    Hello
    Where is the word of God ever a person in the Old Testament?
    In the beginning was Jesus and Jesus was with the Father and Jesus was the Father??
    That won’t work
    The word is a personification of God’s word
    Similar to Wisdom in Proverbs
    Jesus is referred to by Paul as the Wisdom if God
    Does that mean a female spirit being named Wisdom transformed into a human named Jesus?? And the word did to? Two being transformed into a human?
    No
    Jesus is the embodiment of God’s word and wisdom
    Jesus is the Messiah
    The Son of God
    The Son of David
    The Son of man
    The man God has chosen to be his anointed king
    The man God will judge the world through
    The man God raised from the dead
    Jesus will return and rule the nations with believers in the kingdom of God on the earth
    Jesus has a God
    There is no triune god in scripture
    Jesus said the Father is the only true God!
    John 17
    3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
    -
    Acts 3
    13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.
    14 But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,
    15 and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
    Notice Jesus is NOT the God of Abraham

      Jesus is not a personification of the Word, he is the Word; Verse 14 of first chapter of John tells us who this "word" God is, it is Jesus;
      "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
      Before he came to earth, and made flesh, John 1:3 tells who and what he did;
      "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."
      As Paul called Jesus God in Titus 2:13; "while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed." NLT
      "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" KJV
      "as we await the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ," MEV
      "looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus," NASB
      Can't get any clearer than these great translations, that Jesus Christ is God, as Jesus mentioned it himself; "The Father and I are one.” John 10:30.
      As Paul also said; “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh (john 1: 1and14), justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16. All speaking of Jesus.
      Again, God the Father said of the Son;
      8 "But to the Son he says,
      “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.
      You rule with a scepter of justice.
      9 You love justice and hate evil.
      Therefore, O God, your God has anointed you,
      pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.”
      10 He also says to the Son,
      “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth
      and made the heavens with your hands.
      11 They will perish, but you remain forever.
      They will wear out like old clothing.
      12 You will fold them up like a cloak
      and discard them like old clothing.
      But you are always the same;
      you will live forever.” Hebrews 1:8-12. NLT
      God taking on flesh didn’t change Him. He was still completely God, but He became completely man when he left his glory. This is shown in Philippians 2:6-8;
      6 "who, being in the form of God,
      did not consider equality with God something to be grasped (held on to).
      7
      But He emptied Himself,
      taking upon Himself the form of a servant,
      and was made in the likeness of men.
      8
      And being found in the form of a man,
      He humbled Himself
      and became obedient to death,
      even death on a cross." Philippians 2:6-8.
      Notice, Jesus in his own words, and prayer to His Father was that he receive that glory back; "And now, O Father, glorify Me in Your own presence with the glory which I had with You before the world existed." John 17:5
      As for your Notice; "Jesus is NOT the God of Abraham", remember Jesus said clearly; “Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM.” John 8:58. This was so blasphemous a statement, calling himself God, that " they took up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple. Going through their midst, He passed by." verse 59.
