  • The Interior Command Centre on this BA Falcon has a lot of functions. But it will have no functions if power is not available.
This second-hand unit from a wrecking yard would not even power up, but by careful investigation, a successful repair can be carried out.

Thanks heaps mate, went and got a soldering kit this morning and gave this a red hot crack! Played around with different heats on a cheap soldering iron and found the sweet spot with some flux paste as well definitely made all the difference.
This has fixed my speakers cutting in and out it has fixed my aircon cutting in and out also has fixed my whole ICC system from cutting out as well.
I use to punch it in the top left hand corner for the system to turn on so my aircon would work until that didn’t work because one to many hits just made those cracked solders to bad!
Also forgot to add I had to replace a blown ignition switch fuse (20a) as that blown somehow!
Just took it for a drive around town and hit some speed bumps to check if it would drop out again and it’s completely solid with nothing dropping out at all now.
Thanks for the vid mate 👍

Nice video and easy-going attitude. As vehicles age circuit board issues are increasing, your visual inspection paid off.
Have had to repair some ABS modules and the common problem are in the power supply area, careful soldering with a temp controlled iron and correct solder followed by as you say cleaning with isopropyl solves the problem.
    You have steady hands.

I generally come across this problem from time to time. As i fix laptops. I never put a soldering iron on it as it may break the fine soldiers in components. When they manufacture the circuit board. They use a chemical induced soldier. I generally wash the circuit board with hot water. Then i blow dry every thing. At the place i worked at. We had a square infra red light that heated every thing to 55c. Unless a component wasn't working. We never used soldiering irons. If a component was damaged. We had a 240v that converts to 120v with a variable resister. We always used 120v soldering irons. That way we put only the heat required to change the damaged component.

Fair comment for smd for sure. As you said, it is also important to pre-heat boards so as to not stress joins or the board itself. As I was only soldering through-hole components, this was not a great concern. I also use a rework station with a temperature adjustable soldering iron, so that I can use only the temperature required.
      Thanks for your comment

Great video mate, wish i found it before i replaced my original BA Single Zone unit with BF Fairmont Dual Zone, so far every thing works great and with that i proved my mates wrong who were telling me that it couldn't be done. Any way i wanted to ask you if it is possible to get the reverse camera connected to the unit so the display shows on the units LCD. Cheers mate.

@@MiracleMAX No worries mate. The BA unit you worked on i would say no but i have Premium Color screen unit that came out of a BF, They are slightly different units. If you ask me, the screen is just a visual receiver that displays what is commanded to display but i could be wrong. Thanks for answering me mate.

Being through-hole components, they are fairly easy to do. It's just time consuming. Surface-mount components are a different matter. I've just got a digital microscope that makes it a heap easier for my old tired eyes 😁
