I've just removed the front struts from my SEAT to do top mounts, Quick tip Wednesday, once the hub nut is off spray in a load of release agent, then carry on stripping, the banging about & release agent together get the drive shafts out a treat.

Great vid mate. Got to love the old shitreon's remenber a few years ago doing a clutch on 2001 picasso with the same 1.8 engine pig of a job

That's funny. Because I think that the job went fine in this video; neither harder or easier than on any other car. Are you saying that changing the clutch on all other 16 year old cars except Citroën is a joyride? Some people need to wake up and look at statistics on e.g. CRI's homepage. The numbers show that French and Japanese cars actually are the most reliable. I trust statistics based on hundreds of thousands of cars more than someone's home made delusions and faulty prejudices. Look here:
      www.reliabilityindex.com/news/52/States%20of%20Repair%20%E2%80%93%20Japanese%20and%20French%20brands%20top%20international%20league%20table%20of%20car%20reliability

      Hi,
      1)
First of all nowhere in the comment I left have I
implied that the job never went well
      2)
And in reply to your question (Are you saying
that changing the clutch on all other 16 year old cars except Citroën is a
joyride?) No I was making a comment that a citreon Picasso 1.8 I removed the
gearbox on was a pig to remove due to lack of space in the Picasso but by far
not the hardest gearbox I have removed/ changed.
      3)
On reliability of French cars like with any
brand there is good and bad but as you have your opinion and like to read statistics
on e.g. CRI's homepage. and I have my opinion as a time served mechanic and see these cars day in day out I take it you’re not aware of the PSA DV6 (1.6HDI) engine just as an example I suggest you Google
it and see how many good reviews you find on that

I quote you: "Great vid mate. Got to love the old shitreon's..." Doesn't the ignorance shine through there? It does to me. Show me one car make that's better and back it up with hard facts. Don't give me Passats, Audis, rusty Fords, Mazdas, Mercedes' or BMW's, short lived clutches or snapped timing chains, etc. etc., not to mention the fact that servicing them, as well as the spare parts, tend to cost twice as much. It's a whole lot worse having to buy a new engine than to get a tight bolt off.
My brother in law spent a small fortune on repairs on his 2007 BMW before he sold the crappy thing off in September last year. My father drove a Mazda 6 but it rusted so badly around the wheelhouse that he got rid of it. The engine used a lot of oil, too. (known issues on those models) Those are just two "close" examples. Clogged fuel injectors on many gas/ethanol engines from Vw as well as Ford and so the list goes on and on and on. Having said that and with statistics to back it up, I think I'm good company over some jackass full of prejudices and home made conclusions. So yes, I prefer numbers before people who just don't know what they're talking about, be it cars, computers or whatever it might be and you can't possibly ask for a better source if you want to know the truth about something. Try it sometime.

      1)
The term shitreon is a name used in the trade
like Fiat (FIX IT AGAIN TOMORROW) and no I am not saying fiat or citreon are
      worst than any other brand
      2)
And the Jackass as you put it who has 13 years
in motor industry I am entitled to my opinion but that does not mean its right neither
does it make your opinion right either
      3)
The link you put in your previous post was to. www.reliabilityindex.com/news/52/States%20of%20Repair%20%E2%80%93%20Japanese%20and%20French%20brands%20top%20international%20league%20table%20of%20car%20reliability
In my opinion i take there findings with
a pinch of salt as its compiled by a warranty company using their own figures I would take it a lot more seriously
if it was for example an IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry) or Gargewire report
      4)
On reliability as I said in the previous post
all brands have their good and bad all have problems weather that is down to
bad maintenance or general bad design

    • @GymChess
      @GymChess 7 років тому +1

At least spell the name right. It's Citroën, not "citreon."
I didn't specifically call YOU a "jackass" even though it might've sounded that way, but anybody who's neither driven, used, touched, been close to, let alone owned something (a Citroën in this case) to even have a legit opinion in the first place, and there are many of those out there for sure. That's why I'm pleading to the use of common sense and that's where numbers and stats come in.
I understand that only because you pay 3-10 times more for something; in people's minds it automatically has to be better. That's psychology, not reality and it's absolutely wrong, especially with cars. I think that the poster of this video once said in another video comment section, that most cars share exactly the same components, i.e., manufacturer brands, etc. which is true of course.
To say that A is much better than B without knowing something for a fact as well as nothing to back it up with, is nothing but make-believe. Many manufacturers live and thrive on old urban myths and legends and continue to do so because people are completely unaware and ignorant, especially those who lease expensive car models, drive them for 2-3 years and then praise how great they were under their ownership. Yeah right, I'd say to a person like that to actually buy the car, drive it for 5-15 years and come back and tell the world what a great car it was, especially after spending a fortune on repairs.

9:20 - can I ask why you need to go over that much trouble. When done it on all my XM/XANTIA/C5 only lower the car maximum down and depressurize the system.
Well, on the old ones was only spanner 12 and one bolt. On C5 with lexia. After that you can move up and down that hydraulic cylinder with ease. Then ball joint nut, arm down, hub up, push the shaft out and here you go.. There is return pipe from the suspension cylinder (plastic) and handbreak unit - so hammering and playing with chisels there... not such a good idea.. :))
    Nice video by the way!

We recently changed a Citroen c1 clutch. I think that it's of a poor design, from the mechanic's point of view. Everything is in the way or made too thinly. I mean the o/s driveshaft goes directly from wheel hub to differential, no intermediate support bearing attached to the back of the engine. This means that the oilseal on the diff goes and obviously that side diff bearing too. My opinion is that this car is not designed to last.

Can't agree with you, we have four of them and they're doing very well, it is not the cars fault that nothing gets done on time, people usually don't want to spend a penny on them and then complain the car broke down, in my opinion they're lovely cars, we have 4 of them, parts are reasonably priced (at least the ones we needed), we always use genuine parts and don't get many problems. My neighbour owns a beemer, his driveway is full of oil stains and the car is full of problems. People don't understand that these days parts are not made by Citroen or BMW etc... it is all supplier based, when buying genuine parts for our cars we see good brands like LUK, Valeo, Denso, Monroe, Brembo. It always makes me laugh when someone buys a great piece of "German over-engineered" crap and gets in debt up to its eye balls and then when it comes to fixing things buying the cheapest crappy Chinese parts on ebay as they can't afford anything else. This particular Citroen C5 is the most comfortable car I have ever owned if I could still buy a new one I would and keep it forever.
