I agree with Everley after his wrist injury his drumming became very samey and predictable. first two album great but the rest like I say samey he never recovered from the wrist injury in my opinion between touting and recording issues. He had an almost tribal drumming style early on and he just lost it after life is peachy. Ray Luzier is a fantastic drummer in his own right too.

It's a perfect match for Korn, as well as Fieldy's signature low end bass guitar sound. David is undisputedly the most suitable drummer for KoRn. He has the groove and funk to make KoRn "KoRn". Some bullshit producer they had hired during issues pretty much castrated everyone's nuts so they could "Take it to the next level", resulting in the KoRn you have now. And David eventually got fed up and quit some 7 years later. I think Ray is a great drummer, but not a great drummer for KoRn. He completely fucked up the dynamics and the original groove to the old KoRn songs that david created. What a slap in the face. i can't imagine what went through David's head when he had first heard ray play live with the band.

You called it man, I've said something similar to this for years. Ray is a nice guy and a decent drummer, but David had a groove style and lots of "off-key" tempo changes that just gave KoRn a funky, unique sound. All of their stuff after Issues.... I can't really even listen to it, it's so homogenized and standard and the songs suck or sound the same. It's just disappointing. Some say Ray is better, others think David is better. Here's my take...I think Ray is better in some aspects. He's a better technician, he's more precise, he's faster, he's better at blast beats, ect. The two things that make David a better drummer, and the most important things..Writing and Creativity. Ray is very straight forward and rather basic when writing songs. While David always has his own creative niche. There are several Korn songs that come to mind when you think of just the drums. The minute you hear the top of the ride cymbal tapping, you know it's time for Blind. On Beg For Me, David plays a very memorable almost marching sounding intro. In regards to Ray, I cant think of a single memorable song he's been a part of when it comes to his creativity. It all sounds very straight forward and plain. Ray is a very good touring drummer. But when it comes to writing albums, and the best for the Korn sound and style...David is your man.

+Larry Baker Ray's too "by the book" for my liking, of course he's more precise and technical and able to do things that are a bit more complex, but his drumming is to flashy and technical for Korn. But David had a more loose, beat the hell out of you style of play which made him a better fit for Korn, you give David a book on drumming, he'd probably laugh and throw it back at you. Allegedly David barely even knew how to read music, he would play his parts over and over and listen/play along to the recordings till he memorized them. If that doesn't say dedication, then I don't know what is.

They have different styles man I’ll agree that during the 90s David was waaay better with the grooves for sure but There’s things Ray does waaay better than he did

no matter what anyone says, but the golden era of Korn was with Silveria on drums, after his leaving Korn changed, in my opinion, for the worse.

rays good for the stadium and is defo a good drummer but I really lost them after David left, he is like one of my favourite ever drummers, and his style defined them for me, rays a rock drummer, David is a hip hop drummer that plays metal, that's what korn were about man...

That's why David is better. He has unique flow, Ray is very good but he has classic rock style.

Damn, when i see that, i see my childhood. David i hate you because i fucking like you man. I play drums thanks to you and one day, my drum teacher said you was a god for him. The Original Korn was my escape, my fucking savior when i was teenager. They're in my vein forever. I like Ray, and he's a good drummer, but damn, David got something that you can replace. The combo fieldy + david was awesome. There were words, bad words, they splitted. But they made more than a music.

One thing you have to notice about David is, he's a natural drummer. I mean, he only play with his ears, only with the feeling and a good sense about the groove.
That's the main difference with Ray Luzier who only plays because he had a lot of lessons and stuff. And it's really easy ear-able to get the difference. That's why KoRn has a new feeling and can appear more modern or more "straight" than before.
to me, David was the best and will always still be the best drummer for KoRn.

Thank you SO much for uploading this. This video truly shows how awesome the drums are in ChI. Chi is definitely in my top 3 KoRn songz of all time. The drumming pattern during the verses of this song are very unique and could probably never be duplicated again because its such a random, offbeat pattern thats so catchy and goes so well with the song. KoRn rulez!¡

    • @deckofcards87

+shallowcoder1 really? don't see how. neither those two were the kind of guitarists who could play complex solos or anything...maybe i'm wrong though. Head came up with those weird guitar squeals and stuff... but being able to drum like this takes more skill then guitar.

Eden tification No bro im not saying I agree or disagree, im just stating what they said.
I never really cared for solos, they bore me for the most part, I like the way Korn does things with no solos.

    • @deckofcards87
      @deckofcards87 8 років тому +1

I figured. Just saying i can't understand why they'd consider Head the best lol
And agreed. Most solos are snore worthy because they're just all over the place. But the true talents can write a whole new melody for a solo that stays in your head. Not that there's anything the matter with Korns riffs they're really catchy in their own kinda way.

Even without the guitars I was moving along to this. Dave was an amazing drummer who brought a crazy groove to Korn's sound. I can't really talk about Korn post FTL but his work brought Head and Munky's simple and weird riffs to another level

My idol when I was a teenager and he definitely prompted me to start playing drums. Now I am a drummer and I often find myself trying to get his touch and working on his crazy patterns. IMO, some of them are really hard to master and it's a shame he never got the attention he should have had. Jordison, why not ? The name I wud hear as I was growing up... But Silveria was the one for me and as for creativity and groove, he's 1 of the best guys out there!!! This vid is a must-see for any drummer!!

I love seeing comments on how David cant play like this anymore . People dont bother to just go check out some info , go see what happened to his arm and wrist in 2000 , my teen self was sad to not see my hero on drums live but even back then i was able to find out why but yeah , having all the info in the world in a tiny phone takes too long to search infos , rather just comment some bs , way faster .
