THATS MY MOM!!!! She is so proud and honored to have contributed to the legacy of Prince. And I am SO proud to call her my Mom. I love hearing her Prince stories and it brings me so much joy to know that other people can now resonate with them through this awesome pod!
She’s wonderful!!!
Being a Ohio Creative, this is soooooo inspiring for me. Salute to your mom!!!
She is incredibly talented! Tell her thanks for all the great album covers.
❤❤❤
She is Amazing
Prince had Laura LiPuma behind the wall of the LoveSexy photo shoot because of her energy. It was important to him to have a good vibe/energy around him. She was his plus (+) sign of Positivity that day because he knew that she understood him.
EXCELLENT innerview. LiPuma is a delightful captivating person. She captured PERFECTLY Prince’s(r.i.p) aura during the times she worked for him. Her witnessing count of her first meeting with Prince(r.i.p.) during the filming of W.D.C. Video had me at the edge of my seat.
Man going to the record store and seeing that 12 inch of Sign had the whole store in meltdown!
Seeing the Parade 12 inches.
Lawd have mercy!!!
Take me back to those days!!!!
Michael Dean - excellent capturing of HER story. You are so smooth. I would have flirted back😂 but you kept your cool and captured the story.
Once again my Brother Mr. Michael Dean this entire session was phenomenal. Ms. LiPuma is delightful and full of graphic design gems during her tenure/friendship working and sharing with Prince. Also took me to a special time in my life of my first 2 years of college in Charlotte NC. University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I two had my Dorm room covered with the detailed artwork of Purple Rain, Around The World in A Day on my wall highlighted with a Black Light(gave purple illumination) Then later that summer I had a near fatal car accident in the summer of 1985. During my extensive 2 year rehabilitation God & Prince's music was instrumental was key in making a life changing come back. Even while regaining a new zeal for life I continued to decorate my living quarters in my family's home basement I still used that graphic design with PARADE, Sign of The Times, LoveSexy, & The Black Album to illuminate my home. Along with Prince's music I healed and learn to live again. 🙏🏿💜💯🎵🎶🎹🎤and of course keeping Big Brother's music pumping from my stereo. 💜💯🙏🏿
I never thought id hear an interview as interesting as the one with CAT GLOVER, and yet here we are. How inspiring to listen to this in full. This generation should feel like they have taken a history class. Because I feel very educated and im not even that young.....or old.....im 31 so lol. But knowing about her uncle too blew my mind because I know George Benson. How very interesting....love this AND the interview with Cat equally. And I listened to Cat's interview probably 12 times. So I very much appreciate this, and appreciate Laura and what she contributed to a legacy. She needs to be protected. We can not lose her. What a down to earth beautiful brilliant woman.
My FAVORITE Prince podcasts are with Cat Glover! Love this channel! Michael Dean and his team show TRUE love to our FAVORITE Prince! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
The respect that you have and show towards your guests manifests into warm, informative, and insightful discussions that leave us with an intimate understanding of the subject matter that provides more evidence that art is an essential aspect of being a fully evolved and well-adjusted human.
So I brought this abum back in June of 1984,,right before the movie came out. In fact not to be eerie. It was released on June 25th of 1984. Michael Jackson transitioned on June 25th 2009. So that's a power number to me. I Loved the Abum cover. It's great to see the person behind the scenes on the creative art work. I remember reading her name.Great interview.
Great interview! The replacement for the still of lake minnetonka on the dust sleeve of the Purple Rain LP
was "the purple rain" image with white lettering. The picture of Lake Minnetonka was used again for repressings of the LP,
also on the 2015 Remaster released in 2017.
OMG! Love Laura's story of coming to work and meet Prince❣💫💫💓💖🙏🙏😇 God Bless❣💯
This was outstanding! Album art is such a fundamental part of the music experience.. Prince's album covers and sleeves were loaded with information about what he was thinking and feeling. And in a lot of cases we see these album covers and have even more questions. Thank you Laura for sharing your talent and stories. My world has broadened. Eric (Cleveland) 😃
Great Great Stories!.. 🌂 I really love , The Sign 'O' The Times moment too! These stories mean so much to a lot of us, I am glad that Laura LiPuma agreed to do this, I am glad she enjoys her work!.... 👍
Glad you like them!
Mr Dean you are excellent host
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!
Laura, could not tell you how much your work brightened up this kid's life!!
Prince's music was soundtrack to my formative years.
That, coupled with the visuals, left an indelible mark that'll forever be cherished
Thanks for putting this together, Michael xx
Oh, I just have one question re: Balloon Boy for ATWIAD. Wish that had been covered🥰🥰
Omg wow I am a graphic designer and I love Prince! This is so amazing Thank you do much for doing this show and having Laura on your show!! You rock this is awesome!
This young lady is very cool sharing her discovery of music and graphic design. Very Artistic 💜💯

This interview is one of the best in awhile. Very in depth. Great insight. I could visualize every story! 👏🔥🎵💯💯
Mr.Dean, another great one sir. I’ve always been curious about the creative direction, design, and brand of Prince and this was what I needed🔥
Sir on The Other side of The wall this sounds like an Episode of The Prince Show from SNL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Michael… this is amazing, thank you 💜💜💜 I love design, so listening to this is fabulous xx
Such a fantastic, interesting, insightful interview with Laura, loved her stories and many laughs that went with them!
I got my vinyl albums out as I watched this interview, brought a new perspective to them.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, loved it 👍💜🥰💜👍💜🥰
Michael Dean this new podcast is why you are the goat of Prince related podcasts. This episode was 🔥🔥🔥! You have the best interviews of all time. 💜💜💜
I absolutely love jazz... I have 4 Yellowjacket LPs ... They are unbelievable Great Jazz Band 💜💯
Thank you for sharing, Laura. As a teacher, I pick up on behaviors people exhibit. Your description of how Prince's personality changed depending on the setting helps me see my students in a different way. Maybe a potential artist is in the making.❤❤❤
So cool her uncle is the Great Jazz producer Tommy Lipuma.... God is AMAZING... Degrees of separation and commonality 💜💯
Amazing interview. Such a magnetic personality!
Awesome Interview!!!⚘️🌻🌼🌷🌺🥀🌱
Thanks so much!
Looks like she should be at the next Celebration
Thank you to Michael, to the amazing Laura for her much-loved work, which has become part of our lives and part of the musical culture, and has influenced so many other artists since. Much love to you all. Thank you so much for sharing these anecdotes, these special moments with lovers of the great Prince! Thank you Michael for these great questions, this superb interview! Love.
Thank you. What a great insight. That artwork from 84-88 is iconic
Thanx! Great to listen to for every Prince fan.
I like her quote: “Prince was busy being a genius.”
That pretty much sums it up for one of the greatest musicians of all time!
Keep resting easy, Prince. I’ll see you I the afterworld, a world of never ending happiness. You can always see the sun, day or night…
Ms. Laura LiPuma....The details of working with Prince 💜💯
OMG 💓💓💓💓💞❤💯💫 Heart thumping going to Prince's house💜🏘🏩🙃😜✊WoooHooo💥❣😁
Thanks for sharing podcast juice, Loved every minute.
This was terrific. Thank you both so much! Every time the word Technicolour was mentioned I could only think of Electric Intercourse.
Thank you, Michael! I got to learn a lot and finally put a face and personality to the name.
Love the flower motif. 🤗👏👏👏
This is brilliant, Laura is amazing & a great story teller.
Such a cool, groovy, awesome talk/story!!
Laura LiPuma may have been Prince's muse. His music was inspired and groundbreaking just as long as they collaborated.
Ahhhhhh Yes Parade aka The Sophisticated ERA
To finally get to see the mysterious, genius Laura LiPuma. 🙏 And she's so beautiful!
A very interesting interview!! Great information!!! Amazing stories!! Michael Dean you rock!!
Thank you for featuring other areas of Prince's career that are often forgotten. Please if you could ad Laura's name to the title! This is so great, should be found by other graphic designers!, art directors, etc.! Laura's work is fantastic!
I studied with someone who worked on the Sign of the Times cover with Margot Chase, and she briefly shared a few things as I was a student of hers. I didn’t press for more info ever, I kept it professional. Eventually Margo visited the college I was attending to speak and discuss her work, experience. I had the opportunity to meet her but felt it wasn’t appropriate to press on about Prince. I did let her know that I recreated many of her work as an influence.
There are some details behind the sign of the Times cover that I’m willing to share, but maybe I’ll leave it for a later date. Margo Chase is no longer with us, I’m sure she would have been open to discussing the work she did with Prince.
I will share this interesting thing; I worked with another colleague who when I mentioned Prince and my influences, she brought in a logo sample sheet from when she worked with Margo Chase, I think as an intern. On that sheet, showcasing all the titles Margo had done for film and music, etc. was one that stood out… ‘Camille’… in Graffiti Bridge style lettering ;-)
OMGEEZE I Feel 4U Laura!! Stick-shift in San Francisco!!! I know that was Hell!!!!😬😵💫😥😭🥲
So true .. album cover of Purple Rain...is a masterpiece art work....I love it so much I purchased an extra large poster of it and framed it... probably my favorite item I own.....
"Highly Explosive" is the name for the full-length (11 minute) mix of LLLHHH on the 12" of SOTT. It's probably in a different font because otherwise the sleeve is identical to the shorter edit on the 7" and so would have been added in as an afterthought to differentiate the two versions.
Mystery solved! Peter Drane! The guy on the floor on the Glamorous Life cover. Amazing!
Great episode! She is delightful and very talented!
Bro. Mike & Laura, THANK YOU for this BADASS interview! Great stories and like many, the art she and Margo, Glen, Jeff Katz & Horst (the photographer on THE FAMILY album cover) put together has a special place of reverence for me, too and I have a purple Paisley Park fridge magnet, too! Laura's work is legendary and for me, the MADHOUSE logos have a special significance and I even made a fan version for a MADHOUSE-style instrumental I am creating. Laura's story would make a GREAT movie or documentary including her stories about Prince and how her Boss was arrested. Thanks so much!!!!
Thank you.
Ladies & Gentlemen! U worked it like a job. I could see u workin up a Black Sweat!
Great interview, Laura was so insightful with her stories she seems so down to earth.💜💜💜
Cleveland has always been a place where groups toured and plenty of rock came out of there
We used to use those transfer letter sheets for our high school yearbook. They were extremely difficult to use.
what a great personality she has!!! No doubt Prince thought she was hot too! Great show
Love these in depth stories. Prince album covers are ICONIC and INSPIRING! 💜
What strikes me about the peach leotard is that after that Prince wanted to release the Black Album, and then changed his mind.
Great interview! Super Creative !
This interview was awesome.
Much respect to you both💯Str8 banger‼️
Love this interview....
The Family cover photo was shot by Horst
Had the bassline to Doves Cry stuck in my head for two days. We can all stop acting like it was some super artistic, genius move taking the bass out of that song.. HE TOOK IT OUT BECAUSE THAT SONG STUNK WITH THAT DUMB ROCK-A-BILLY SOUNDING GROOVE UNDER IT.
I said this many times before if you listen closely there is a baseline, but it’s replaced by the LinnLM-1 drum machine Tom toms and kick drum.
I luv that 👁no Prince set!
Great show on P and very good new information that I learned today 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
"Prince was busy being a genius ".
The OJays are from Canton ohio it's was a music place in the 70's
Great !!💯
Thanks for listening
I feel that the purple rain vinyl should have the floral on it instead of being purple
From Cleveland myself
