    This is one of the most fascinating interviews that I have heard to date. Jill Jones revealed so much, she showed us where she has been and who she is, then bought us the human Prince was and some of the madness of his genius.

    Jill Jones is the ultimate background vocalist with skills to sing any type of song. Her debut album is proof of that. She was “the secret weapon” in the early years when Prince was crafting those songs. J.J. is definitely an unsung hero who deserves mad respect & credit.

    I have listened to this interview more than once and each time I like Jill more. She is so insightful and has a lot to share about her relationship with Prince and what she learned. Very forthright, straight up and twelve o'clock. Prince's gift was very much a reflection of him. Prince's mission is mentioned in his memoir in the chapter, "New Beginnings."
    I don't think the comment that John L. made about her being like Delilah was quite right on and I understand why Jill was a bit insulted at the comment. Jill was the type of woman that Prince needed in his life. She was strong even then; not that she fully embodied this strength at the time, but she had the support of a nurturing family that she could depend on. This is something that Prince did not have. Because she had that support she did not lean on Prince so hard or engulf him. He had space to relax. As she said, he would do a record with a girl and he was done with her. We wonder why it took forever for Jill to get her album done? He did not want to let her go.
    I have done a fair amount of reading and thinking about how Prince related to people. It was always in the context of music because that was his life. Music was how he brought people into his life and how he kept them close. But once it got to a point of sharing deeply to bring the relationship to a deeper level, he would pull away. He did not know how to get beyond the music because he had never experienced being known beyond the music. Music was everything to him including the shelter in which he lived where the walls became thicker and stronger.
    Prince had some good women in his life; Mayte had an inner strength that eventually realized she was not going to continue to be disrespected, Elise Fiorillo who was not going to allow Prince to run her career, and Jill who has a tremendous amount of self-respect. I'm sure there are others but these women (and men who worked for Prince) who were strong individuals. Many of which were interviewed here. These are the ones Prince needed to make the effort to keep in his life; those who spoke his language and who weren't afraid to speak their mind. He would still be here if that had been the case.

    • @antoniojohnson8443
      @antoniojohnson8443 7 років тому +15

      RebelThoughts82 I wouldn't say promoted her more but he really messed up the timing. Her album came out 4 years after her debut on 1999 and 3 years after Purple Rain. She should have dropped right before Purple Rain or right after Purple Rain. When Vanity left all the focus should have been on her. Her voice is all over The Time records, Shelia E's record, and Vanity 6. Prince was giving songs to Sheena Easton, Shelia E, and Susannah that should have been Jill's solo record

    • @plecturaproductions5816

      If you listened to the interview , Prince was trying to get her album released but his label and radio stations had him jumping through hoops to get her and other acts played, “Hey Prince , play our Christmas party and we will play your artist music”, they were making him dance for something he earned

    • @themightycelestial
      @themightycelestial 3 роки тому +2

      There were several people in Prince's camp who shoulda been bigger. Jill, Vanity, Morris, Jesse, and the Time as a group.
      There was alotta talent in Prince's purple circle who could've reached higher (Yeah, I know there were some who did like Sheila, Jimmy Jam and Terry), and it can get kinda frustrating that their names aren't known in more households. But the way I see it, as longs as there are things like these podcasts, or Prince.org or just us fans talking about all over social media, those people like Jill Jones, Vanity, Appollonia, Morris, Jesse etc. they still have fans of the like that so SO many others who have struggled in the entertainemnt business and never made it, would and could only wish for.

    She sounds like such an intelligent beautiful strong lady.
    No arrogance or inflated ego + it sounds like she was very objective when it came to judging others.
    Sounds like she really knew, + cared for, Prince. So why wasn’t he able to settle down + marry Jill + commit to a great friend like her.
    It would have been so nice to have seen him married with a few kids but something tells me that he had too many emotional problems he was trying to deal with.
    Another thing was in the documentary “Prince: the man, the myth, the legend” they portray both his parents as being religious hypocrites, mentally abusive towards him, + kicking him out of his home when he was 12....but Jill described them as wonderful + that both parents were great people who he got along with well????? Confusing!!!

The main interviewer (the gentlemen speaking the most during this interview) sounds like a teenager tripping over his words and saying "ya knaw mean" over and over again. I want a more professional host with a professional voice interviewing these intricate folks in Prince's life, I.E let the second gentlemen handle all of the interviewing. While it may not be to the liking of some (and that must be respected), the show host has been running this podcast for a substantial amount of time, and it's because of his extensive knowledge that he's been able to secure these interviews with some very integral men and women from Prince's camp. That takes nothing away from his co-hosts and guest speakers who are also well-informed. We gotta remember that, while they are professionals, they're hardcore fans first. Part of the joy of this podcast is hearing well-intentioned interviews blossoming into adult conversations between the relatable host and an engaged, comfortable guest.

    Prince turned his back on this woman when she divorced and had a child to raise all by herself? Did I get that right?
    Because that is such a mean, cold and cruel thing to do to the someone Prince had always in his hair.
