imagine having never designed an album cover before, then painting (arguably) the best album cover ever designed, then immediately dying afterwards. barry godber, what a bright star indeed
As we say, fuckin'-A right.
The best of all is too much, certainly amongst the best.
a fuckin' badass indeed
@@El_Andru what would you posit?
@@saturatedneowax English please?
Did you mean "why would I post this?"
The square aspect ratio is so fucking smart
Didn't like it
@@skan5728 🙄
It sure is, but I must say, it can get annoying on mobile since the UA-cam app puts this aspect ratio in vertical when going fullscreen
@@marianolaguzzi that's my only issue with it
@@LaMarcGasoldridge same, other than that it's cool
This video is good, I can’t even try to deface it with a shitty JoJo reference
Nobody sees a dark tower reference coming
But _It Just Works_
I love how he gives us the backstorys the references to jojo characters
YOPP!
@@keepermovin5906 a man of culture
The fact that these next concept videos are gonna be in the same ratio as albums is genius. 👍🏾

YES
@William Magee Normal aspect ratio for videos makes a rectangular video. Polyphonic is using a square aspect ratio to match the shape of the album artwork being discussed.
@William Magee The ratio of an album cover (LP, CD, digital, etc.) is a 1:1 square ratio, and to further emphasize the art form of album art, Polyphonic will make the Album Art concept videos in that ratio.
it would be better if the editing and entire feel didn't look so corporate
Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear, tomorrow I’ll be crying.
Album artwork is so under appreciated now with the digital age. One of my favorite parts about vinyl records is seeing the album cover and special gatefold art that accompanies it.
Have you watched his video on the beauty of degraded media? He talks about how part of the appeal of vinyl covers is that they age and no two are ever the same. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already
Plus the back art you would never see unless you got it on Vinyl.
Cut and paste and generic fonts killed it
"i talk to the wind" is arguably one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Hautingly beautiful.
And Epitaph
Itwop is amazing, whole album too
*One of the greatest albums of All time, Long live crimson*
Having 1:1 aspect ratio was honestly such a good idea for this.
Stephen King named his major villain from the Dark Tower series "The Crimson King" after them.
Didn't know that. thanks
I always wondered if that was the case, but I never found proof of that info, can you provide me with a link or something?
Oh Discordia
A major villain from the anime jojos bizzare adventure also has a major villain with sort of a ghostly shadow of him named after king crimson, with its face resembling the scitzoid man. Neat stuff.
@@dunebug233 Yeah the JoJo comics were how I got into King Crimson and now they're like one of my top three favorite bands
What a coincidence, I literally started listening to King Crimson's work for the first time last night.
I've been listening to them for a couple weeks now, their music is great. Wsit until you get to albums like Red and Decipline
@@dunebug233
Lots of gems in the lizard to starless days too
Me too, just last night I put on the album for the first time
a video nobody asked for, but everyone needed
Its really good but keep skipping 10 seconds every time he said king crimson

Prog rock has some of my favorite album covers. Artists like Roger Dean defined the look of the genre.
There's a reason I use his work for profile pictures everywhere I go on the net. Such colorful fantastic scenes, I love them!
Roger Dean and Rodney Matthews art slaps severely, just got 3 Asia CDs for the art :)
I certainly hope to see a lot of Roger Dean in this video series!
How this album isn’t in rolling stone’s top 20 is a crime
It’s not even in their 500 which is a disgrace
@@zacharypeters5930 Another proof that this magazine is shit
@@zacharypeters5930WAIT WHAT??
I would like to know about the cover of Miles Davis Bitches Brew
Good shout. Take a closer look at the cover of ‘Abraxas’ by Santana to see an evident connection between the two artworks (same year and possibly artist - so maybe not a total coincidence).
@@steliosposeidon6871 yeah, Mati Klarwein did both album covers, as well as a bunch of other albums from the likes of Earth Wind & Fire, The Last Poets, Gregg Allman & The Mooney Suzuki
Must resist to make a JoJo reference.
I really love the album art of In the court of King Crimson, it just... speaks to me. An intelligent mind plagued by how overwhelming the world is just the character, the narrator who sings all this. Just beautiful.. thank you for this.
*In the Court of the Crimson King
Classic prog album art is some of the best stuff I've seen. 70's Yes, the Moody Blues' first seven albums, Golden Earring's early 70's output, Genesis from Trespass to Lamb Lies Down... Truly amazing stuff. I'd love to hear more of what you have to say about those.
Also especially love The Mars Volta's album art.
Idk if you ever knew this but The Mars Volta's first album art was done by the same guy who designed Dark Side of The Moon's prism artwork!
@@Aquatarkus96 I didn't know that actually. That's pretty rad, might have to look into other bands he's worked with because Deloused has a bloody brilliant cover, and Dark Side of the Moon is so iconic.
I usually have In the Court of the Crimson king at the front of my record crate. Great music, brilliant artwork.
It would be cool if you'll talk about the relationship between Tool and Alex Gray's art in the next episode
I watched a documentary on Alex Gray in Uni and the whole time I was going "wait... is that??? Is that Tool???"
Especially the 10,000 Days album... with the 3D glasses and crazy packaging
He could honestly do a whole video on 10,000 Days and Fear Inoculum
That would be so cool! I was just thinking the other day how cool a Polyphonic TOOL video would be!
@@kaylubproductions4517 he already did a video about lateralus (song) and the math behind it
the square aspect ratio is genius dude
This is my personal favorite and one of the very few albums that I would call perfect.
I recommend everyone go listen to it from start to finish after watching the video. It's an experience.
Hello from north wales.
Agree with you 100% word for word!
Love early Crimson, sinfield lyrics, and later
Palmer james lyrics.
Transport you to a different place, never tire of them.
Listen to LIZARD, 3 times in succession, a fantastic
musical experience!
They lost me after RED, and believe me I’ve tried.
Lots of people like it though.
Take care.
Jesus. Todd in the shadows, trash theory and polyphonic on the same day!
oh god thank you for bringing this to my attention
This was so interesting. As an artist, this is something I would love to do.
Hope you get to Roger Dean soon! He's the artist behind my profile picture, and did some gorgeous work for Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Asia, and the studio Psygnosis' video game releases. I love his use of color and mixed medias.
Roger Deans one of my biggest art inspirations I love his work sm :')
This is potentially the most exciting series I've ever seen on UA-cam!! What a fascinating topic, and i love the presentation you've chosen for them. I can't wait to see what you come out with next.
One of my favorite YT channels. So excited for this series. Great production already.
Excellent! Looking forward for future videos. I'm counting that you won't only do videos about iconic album covers but also about not so iconic (yet cool) album covers too.
Little Creatures by The Talking Heads has my favorite album art. I’d love if you made a video discussing it
Congratulations on the new series. That's a great idea. Looking forward for the next cover!!! Also loved the new intro, with vinyl image and sound.
It would be really cool if you analyzed some of pink floyd's album covers. I feel like their covers have so much to say.
He said everything there is to say on DSotM in his miniseries, so I think he should do Animals.
What a unique presentation with the square video and superb editing. Super excited for what this series has in store
Every Van Der Graaf Generator album’s art could have its own ep
good idea! looking forward
I have been waiting too long for this video. It's finally time to sit down and enjoy it. Thank you kindly, from the bottom of my heart, for the quality and the passion you put in your videos. you will never disappoint me. Thanks man
For me, this album cover has always been the most ingenious one that has ever been created. That expression of mere fear and anxiety combined with the uncomfortable feeling of tightness due to the close view on that screaming distorted red face is just so perfectly displayed. It is as if you could hear him scream and feel him being torn apart by his own never ending pain.
It is so sad that we lost the genius behind that piece of art at such an young age.
Awesome visuals is what stands out about your videos. Subscribed. Thanks.
i can already tell that this series is gonna be amazing, great video cant wait for the next one.
I show everyone I can this channel hoping to help it grow, you definitely are in the top tier of music fan channels, and I love the editing, very creative!

The visuals in this video are amazing, they really emphasize the subjects that you're talking about and they keep you interested in what's going on in the video
This is a great idea, I'm a huge fan if album art. Psychedelic & Prog. are my two of my favorite genres & they produced so many great covers.
Hoping you had some good vacations, thanks for the content
I love how king crimson just works
As a Crimso fan, this my very first video that I love! It's so accurate, revealing some details I did not know about. Thank you.
Love this series so far. It's great you put see small hours in there. It's a personal favourite of mine. As a music fan and illustrator I have so many album covers I'd like to know more about.
