I brought one of these 6 months ago off ebay. It has 16GB and the 2000M Quadro. I put in a modern fast SSD and built it up with Windows 7. Using all the driver packages from the Dell support site. Its an absolutely AWESOME laptop. I use it for DJ'ing and its brilliant. Has way more HP than most modern machines and its so tough you can almost drive over it with your car. These are a superb secondhand buy.
Watching this on my M4600 and it is a great review of a laptop I have used for over 8 years! Great review. Time finally for an upgrade to an XPS 15 but sad to see my old brick go!
I bought a Precision M4700, those workstations are able to upgrade it's graphics card. So I bought the most powerful graphics card it can handle. The Quadro M2200 (GTX 965M equivalent), it's performance could be compared to a GTX 1050 mobile, so I'm happy to moderately play some modern games and e-sports on it.
Just bought one of these off Fleabay for £250.upgraded the hard drive to a 500gb SSD for £65, and upgraded the Wifi card from N to A/C speed for another £27.It's now one hell of a machine...far better than any new machine for £350.It came with the top of the range I7 Extreme Processor and 16gb of DDR3 Ram, and the 1080P Screen shown Here.One thing the Reviewer forgot to note.The screen is a Dell Ultrasharp Display...over 400 nits max Brightness and around 95% SRGB accuracy. Gaming in 2019 is a whole different Ball game from the past.All games can now be streamed to it at Max Resolution and full detail settings. Have an Xbox one? - stream via the in built Xbox app built into windows 10. Have a PS4? - Stream Via PS4 Remote play App PC Games - Stream Via the Steam App , or if you have a Geforce Powered windows 10 PC in the house ,use the Moonlight app. for Android Games - Just install an Android Emulator like Bluestacks. The question is now in 2019, do you really need an expensive gaming Laptop anymore?
I bought my M4600 a couple years ago for $100 off of 'Offer Up'. It was in excellent condition, I just had to update it to windows 10 and pretty much runs old Windows XP programs and most of my old games. I had a problem with it shutting off unexpectedly, what I did was updated the Bios bought the proper AC adaptor and haven't had the shutdown problem.
i got one on ebay for $272 the i7 is 2860QM & the video card is the 1000m not to bad of a spec ,but the best thing about the Precision M4600 it will run linux pretty well.i had linux mint 17.3 . it works well just need to work out the video drivers. for better performance i thought you guys may want to know that linux work.
Nice deal, i got a 2670qm with 2000m for 210 a few months ago. Does that cpu tend to overpower the heatsink yours? i was looking at that to move up to when i find a good deal on one.
well so far it's ok i haven't ran the labtop much. but the temp looks ok i would say to make sure you clean the labtop clean with can of compressed air twice a month that will help with overheating a bit.
i am the Zane windows 7 runs perfect on mine which has a quadro 2000m and an i7 2700qm (dunno bout the ram) i bought it for 50 usd because it is like battle scarred (cs go) battery is dead and esc key is missing
great find dude. my labtop still is running well i was thinking of changing the quadro 1000m too a 2000m. pay some guy change out the video card for something a bit more powerful still thinking about it got to make sure i have the cash to do something like that but time will tell.thank you so much for the comment.
I actually have the Dell Precision m6400 laptop which I believe is a couple of year older than this, released in late 2008 to early 2009. It has an Intel Core 2 Quad extreme QX9300 cpu with 12 gb ddr3 ram, 480 gb ssd, and a 1 gb ATI firepro m7740 graphics card. I still like it today
I owned a m4600, It had only an i5 and a 1000m. I traded it up to an e6530. It wasn't a bad trade but I sure do miss this laptop. It was very fast as my e6530 is, and is miles above a probook 6500 series but sadly good luck finding decently priced ones in as good of shape.

I have one of these and like it allot.... But, over the years, I have no clue how to activate the "Bluetooth".... I see the icon light is off on mine in the top left corner... I don't see it in Windows Mobility Center either.... Something like (Fn, then hit F2?)
You would need to either get a Bluetooth card installed or like me get a Bluetooth usb adapter. Press F2 go into your Bios and see if you have the Bluetooth installed or in your settings check if its turned on/off.
Any non-ULV i7 will be a lot faster than the 6500U for applications and load times. The only reasons to go with the Acer over the featured Dell Precision would be more mobility and potentially longer battery life. Or maybe international availability (presuming you are actually in Guam).
+Theje Are the U versions really that underpowered? So the five year old 2860QM is actually a lot faster than the 6500U? If so then I may as well get the Dell.
Do you know a shortcut or a way to max. the fans. On my other laptop it just goes to maximum capasity when i press fn+1 but this doesn't do it i guess. And also can you play a more demanding game please for testing i mean?
i think the only way to do that is to go into the bio's and turn off intel speedstep. if i'm right speedstep when on lets the OS like window or linux control the fans but if it's off i think you can control it but i don't know what button combo you must use for that. check the dell website it may have info on it .i hope this help you out. and oh to get in the bio rebbot and press F2 just i case you don't know good luck.

To enable this mode ( from in Windows or anyplace ) hold down ( fn + shift ) then type ( while still holding down fn + shift ) 1,5,3,2,4 . This will enable the special mode . After that fn + R will bring you to text based screen ( again , even in Windows ) where you can get to all the temps , fan speeds , etc , and even set the throttling percentages

I'm pretty confident in its ability to play CS GO at low details, but even other "light games" like DOTA 2 or WoW Classic will be iffy at best. If you can get it at $200 for the laptop and a new battery then it's worth it just to find out, but I'd be more hesitant at a higher price point.
@@Slap_Tech i found it at around 170 usd , but the battery is dead and need replacement , also ram needs upgrade ( 4 gb) , but it comes with 250 gb ssd
@@stefanpopa5830 So you're looking at about $280 - $300 USD after memory and a battery replacement. Not too shabby, granted it has the quadro 2000M in it (if it doesn't then it's a hard pass). Just keep in mind you're about another $200 away from other used workstations (Dell 5510, 7510, HP ZBook Studio G3 and Thinkpad P50) with quadro M1000M's that pack twice the system and gaming performance.

I do 3D modeling as hobby & found this laptop with 32 fb of RAM at a ridiculous price of only $600-700 and can't believe how loaded it is because the i7 is great for 3D purposes and of course more ram the better not to mention the video card is designed for those purposes as well. It really is a no brainer I should buy this ASAP I just would like to see if anyone knows how good the display is, is it bright enough? I'm not expecting the best display in the world I'm just shocked how good the specs are at the price range so I'm thinkin there must be a catch somewhere, as long as the display is decent that would be awesome
It is heavy and tend to overheat from time to time, I got m4600 with i7 2720qm and quadro 2000m and apart from the mobility issue, it is great work machine. I do not use it regularly, I prefer my lenovo 720s, but this m4600, it delivers.

Will it play overwatch at 60fps? I have seen videos who say it can, but then online sites say it cant even run at the lowest level.
I doubt you could at any respectable resolution / settings. Maybe if you attach an eGPU through the expresscard slot.
