Hi Alan. I like Bad Company. Another group that i like that were very similar in rock music style is Grand Funk Railroad. I was listening to them last night. So good !. I love the 1970s music.

I'm a big fan and supporter of Grand Funk. I've featured them in videos (I actually have all their albums) and I always mention them in my Rock and Roll Hall of Fame videos, that they've never been nominated (or of course inducted). The 1970's music is very timeless - still sounds great. They knew how to make records that will always sound relevant. Best, Alan

@@TheAlanRosenbergShow another great (under-rated) band that deserves more respect/attention! Guess they got dumped on by critics back in the day and have never shaken off those unkind reviews...so many great tracks, though, as well as solid solo albums etc (Flint).

@@DerekPugh-uj4yd Absolutely. They really were "the people's band". LOVED by the fans but the critics slagged them off then and now. Ridiculous. Selling out Madison Square Garden many nights and the biggest arenas nationwide and of course Shea Stadium. And they cooked. Fantastic live band. I actually prefer their later stuff when it was cleaner and better preduced. We're An American Band...etc. It's really a shame. But more of a shame to me that they won't allow Mark Farner back and tour as the original band for a final tour. I'd LOVE to see that and Farner wants to do it, but they won't allow it. Such a shame. Best, Alan

You have a terrific haul of Joe Ely cds at at a bargain price! I have many of his albums, live shots is a great disc ..but Live at Liberty Lunch is one of the finest live recordings ever. That Dusty Road looks very interesting, don't have it be interesting to know if it features his band or solo acoustic. Dig All Night is my top studio disc by him. I've seen him many times in UK since '87 .Never disappointed. He is a force of nature live!! One other disc to look out for is another live cd which feat the Great Bobby Keyes as guest with his band at a club show..awesome . I hope you enjoy your discs, I have a feeling you will ! You're in for a treat in the next few weeks, Alan. - John Prine and now Joe Ely. By coincidence, I have a copy of his first album on vinyl which he signed when i saw him at Glasgow's famous King Tut's Wah Wah Hut many years ago. What a night! Great band! Far too many beers! And I've got a photo of that night of my wife and I with him. I hope he's aged better than me!!!!!!! My favourite of the ones you bought is "Honky Tonk Masquerade."

Thanks for sharing that story. Now that's the name of a venue "King Tut's Wah Wah Hut". And in Glasgow too. That would also make a good title for a live album. Someone mention he had passed away, but seems to me he's very much alive and, hopefully, well. I'm excitted to really dive in to his catalog. Bought another one of his albums yesterday - Letter To Laredo, which someone said was his best, or way up there. Funny thing is I believe I saw him live once in the 80's as an opening act. I have to go through my concert archives. Thanks for sharing your great story.

The Joe Ely opened for The Clash on their US tour and in fact that live album I got called Live Shots was recorded at one of those shows. I have a good feeling about him. Dont know Joe Ely, John Prine is very good - my favourite song, his protest song called "Paradise" about the small town of Paradise which was devastated by strip mining. Just a great song - its on the album John Prine. He's sat on a heap of hay bales on the cover. My favourite out of that lot would have to be the Live Harry Chapin 2CD set. That looks terrific. By the way, I just heard a revelation! Buddy Hollys last recorded songs on UA-cam! Holly singing complete Demos of songs he recorded on a tape recorder in NYC!
I am stunned at how good he sings and it’s so intimate a recording I feel like he’s right next to me sitting and singing! He sings perfectly and I wish I could reach out and warn him not to get on that damn plane! What an amazing talent he was! 48 minutes of Bliss. In my opinion. During a couple of songs you can hear someone washing some dishes even. Kind of funny but overall it’s incredibly poignant to hear him singing so close and clear like he’s singing into your ear. He had perfect pitch! No false starts or flubs! Unreal!

Very cool haul, that Burning Sky sounds great and the bonus tracks are solid. I think I paid close to $20 for my copy, so you got a bargain!. I had never heard of Joe Ely, sounds interesting. Didn't know he sang backing vocals on "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by The Clash. Might have to give his debut a listen. That is a great pickup of Goldmine magazines, would love to stumble on to some of those. I've just gotten around to reading my Uncut Ultimate Music Guide on George Harrison, which goes great with one of the albums I'm hooked on at the moment.
I only had one purchase this week, Bolan Boogie: The Best of T. Rex. It is a 2 CD set that covers all the T. Rex years, it came out this year and it has great sound and a great track list. Comes in a 7 inch gatefold case as well. I'm still obsessing over 2 releases from last week, the 2 CD deluxe reissues of Living in the Material World by George Harrison, I love the remix and Iconoclassic reissued Dwight Twilley's 3rd album, first solo, simply called Twilley. I can't recommend this album enough, It sounds a bit like The Cars, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty but it has its own sound. Great, great album. Enjoy the pickups, always love seeing what you find.

I guess you'll be hitting the indoor record stores for awhile. Saw the Bob Weir shows this weekend. The shows with the philharmonic orchestra were interesting. The audience was awful. People talking on their phones during the show and all kinds of rude stuff. One of the worst crowds I have ever encountered.....both nights. It makes me not want to go to live shows. With an orchestra you need and want quiet for the "quiet" parts... There's a reason classical music fans love CD's by the way. What is with audiences - and I'm assuming it's an older demographic who should know better. I don't get it. By the way I LOVED Weir's last solo album - was amazing to me. Anyway thanks for sharing. Don't want to overwhelm and I think people won't believe it. This Years Model double cd for a pound - damn - thats fantastic!!!!. And 40 Licks is pretty common out there but for a pound - awesome! I don't really listen to Stones hits compilations too often - I know their stuff inside and out and its in my DNA - the comps I go for are more deeper stuff. But the first Stones albums I heard was Sticky Fingers and Hot Rocks - and I still think Hot Rocks is still the greatest gateway to The Stones. I also love More Hot Rocks - goes a bit deeper. As for post 1971 - There's so many - 40 Licks as you know covers it all, though some songs are edited. Jump Back is good. There's always GRRR and Honk (but I never listen to them). I do listen to weird ones like Sucking In The 70's because it's just weird and fun. There was a weird UK one called Time Waits For No One I also enjoy. Best, Alan

Pretty much stopped contributing playing guitar except some excellent slide moments like No Expectations. How they had to get rid of him because he couldn't function anymore (a la Rock n Roll Circus). Actually fairly depressing story but his story is pretty depressing actually. They said his two guitar highlights was the lead on The Last Time and slide on Little Red Rooster. Best, Alan

Hope so too Tom. I think I will. I tend to like that kind of music. If not - at 10 bucks for 13 Cd's not much of a risk. I figured I'd never see them again in the wild at this price. Best, Alan

Joe Ely recently passed away. Only a handful of people cared or know who he is. Sadly. He had a decent voice and was in the Rockabilly/Tex Mex style of music which I like. He was on a Clash single. He had some good songs but no hits so that was it. I like his style.
      RIP Joe Ely

@@dynjarren8355 Thank your for that information and tribute to Joe Ely. I had no idea. I got excited about buying his CD's and possibly down the line seeing him live somewhere. Wow . I guess I really missed the boat this time. True - sad that he had such a huge discography and passed away with little to no fanfare...like me, I had no idea. Sad. Thanks for the acknowledgment of his career and tribute.

@@thomaswery3087 Yea - I get that Tom. I keep all the old original Creem and Circus and I love Classic Rock magazine. The other's I read (like these Goldmine) and throw out. I recently went thru some old Creems and sure enough even those are starting to fall apart. But I enjoy reading them, learn or re-learn something new and read about artists I didn't like back then but like now. But you're right, can't keep everything.

I feel foolish that I spread misinformation about Joe Ely. I could have sworn that I heard a report on Yahoo news last year that he passed away. Now I just checked Google and it says he’s still among the living. I’m happy to hear that actually because I like his style. I’m so sorry I misspoke. I’d definitely not make a good reporter because I’m not accurate enough. Sorry! That’s all I can say! I’m embarrassed actually! Long live Joe Ely! I think you’ll like him.
Anyway I have to eat crow now.
Yummy! 🥹Kind of tough like chewing leather! 😤

@@dynjarren8355 No problem. I was so sad when you said it. So this is great news. We all make mistakes. And of course you didn’t do it it be mean or troll or anything like that. Don’t eat crow. Don’t give it a thought. The good news he’s still around and we can see him live when he appears. Happy Holidays my friend.
