Rick Steves' European Christmas: Italy

I was in Italy for Christmas last year and had the time of my life. Spent most of my time in Rome and Orvieto (medieval town in Umbria) with Italian friends/family and enjoyed all the traditional Christmas celebrations like the one shown in this video. Rick Steves' Christmas series always brings tears to my eyes and I hope to go back to Italy for the holidays again. Buon Natale a tutti!

I love Italy during Christmas. So many places have turned the holiday into something, which is in my opinion, over commercialised and too centred around buying presents and decorating homes with flashy decorations. In Italy, you can step back and truly see what Christmas is all about.

Oh my gosh, I REALLY want to go to Italy! I'm half Italian. I just LOVE the people, the culture, the traditions, the beautiful architecture there, the history and the DELICIOUS food!! I'm so jealous of Rick because he's got hands down THE best job ever!

Mr. Steves, if you ever read this comment, I and my entire family want to thank you for changing the way we celebrate Christmas. When we saw this on PBS a few years ago, it revolutionized our holiday spirit and outlook. Nothing makes the month quite like Christmas unless we watch your special again! @absolutgermanyfangrl actually during Christmas it is rare to eat pasta. In fact it is one of the only days during the year where you can cook something different. Such as ravioli, agnolotti, cannelloni, risotto etc and you cannot miss the great second courses such as faraona, tacchin (turkey), stinco ( end part of pig`s leg) and so many other different courses all around Italy
