This is what a lens review should look like! 🤯 Congrats sir, I can tell you are a photographer, not a youtuber. Perfect review: Short. To the point. No pixel peeping. Outstanding images. Well done 🍻
I got the 35f2 when I first got into Fuji, then about a year later I picked up the 35f1.4 for the faster aperture and absolutely fell in love. Last year I upgraded my body to the XT5 I also “upgraded” the 35f1.4 to the 33f1.4. The 33f1.4 is amazing, but I am strongly considering going back to the 35f1.4. The size and character make it magical and fun. The 33 feels too, I don’t know…. Boring, compared to the older 35. Same story for the 16mm vs 18mm for me
Usually I see something that's beautiful to my eyes and photograph it. Most of the time it looks just normal. With this lens though things were as beautiful as I saw them, your photographs made me recall why I loved it.
Have you noticed the AF issues a lot while taking photos. Switching to APSC but I am between of getting either the A6700 vs XT5. I never use AF-C. I always shoot with AF-S. But I am leaning towards the XT5 because it would be easier to use with the physical dials and great that it has dual card slots. But the A6700 has better lens selection and great AF.
Still my favorite Fuji lens. Love how close it focuses and the flare you can get. Definitely soft and has low contrast up close, but it renders with a touch of that vintage feel. Its amazing how much it sharpens up when you step back and shoot at half body or further. I picked up the new 33mm f1.4 twice, and both copies wide open were softer than my 35mm f1.4. Than is at half body length and beyond. My only wish is that it was a 33mm instead of 35mm. It can get just a little to tight indoors if you are trying to fill a room. Your photos really showed off its beauty. Thanks for making this one 🥰
Very nice video Jerred. My first Fuji lens, bought to go with my X-Pro 1. I've had many cameras since that first Fuji, yet that lens stays with me. I'll never sell it, I love it.
@@JerredZ It’s a criminally underrated camera. I was sad it never got the update love the XT3 got but I’ve still enjoyed it the 5 years I’ve had it so far!
To anyone doing research on this lens who showed up here seeking an opinion, I'll just confirm that yes, it is a very romantic piece of glass, and yes, you should buy it. The more used the better. Mine was 'open box' but I think whoever bought it dropped it and sent it back. The drop just added more character. It has a near permanent residency on my XE4, and is my favourite graveyard/foggy day/botany lens. And it will be your favorite too.
Great video, Jerred! I've owned this lens for many years (8 or 9 years) and I love it. I agree with everything you said. This lens also works great on my IR converted X-T1. Love all your images in the video!
I have the 35 f/2, the 35 f/1.4 and the new 33. 33 is great when you want sharp, clinical, clean and fully optimized on the new X-h2 sensor. f/2 is great when you need silent, small, and weather proofed...great for street. But when you want character and images that just have a special something, but don't care about AF speed or noise and maybe a little searching, the f/1.4 is awesome and would be the last lens I'd sell.
Amazing Imagery, very filmic . The Fuji system really hooked me and while my photos aren't on this level I love the images I get out of them. Also, I know that this is possible which makes me want to push more. I feel like bigger UA-camrs have a huge influence on what people want from their gear . They show the clinical, the perfect( too perfect ) use cases , so much so that we lose focus of the actual characters in the flaws . While it would be nice to get a clinically perfect shot and edit the mess out of it to give character, I find the beauty in the flaws. I wish showing and using these flaws would overshadow the perfection most seek. Great job on the video.
I loved so many of these images you shared in the video, and I agree with your sentiment about the XF 35mm f/1.4. I never sold mine after I bought the XF 33mm f/1.4 LM, and I'm really happy I didn't. As time has gone on, I've begun to reach for the XF 35 more than I'm reaching for the XF 33. While wildly inferior in so many ways to its newer sister, the character and physical weight of the XF 35 create that intangible personality that attracted us to the Fujifilm brand in the first place. I think it may be time to for me to go back and just acknowledge this. Fujifilm is trying to improve in the areas it was behind in. In the process of doing this, we've gotten some great cameras and lenses, but nothing has really hit that mark that resonates with me like the old XF 18mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4 did. Makes me wonder if I should just sell all my other lenses? haha
I've had 27 X Mount lenses since I made the switch from Nikon in 2014. I still have 16 X Mount Fuji lenses. (and a whole bunch of off brand X mount and even more adapted glass.) The XF35/1.4 wasn't the first Fuji prime I ever bought for the X System, but it would be the very last that I would ever sell. The XF18/2 is a close second. They both have image characteristics that render unique signatures which I've not found in any other lenses I've ever owned or used.
The 3D pop on nature close ups on the 18mm is incredible. I don’t have that lens anymore, and I don’t necessarily need it, but I miss it’s rendering. I love the 35mm f/1.4 as well of course and that’s now my only lens for my interchangeable Fuji.
Great video and yes I have this amazing lens too. Your photos are visually excellent and like how the music and your narration works so well. This lens definitely has character both aesthetically and the images it renders, especially with the earlier X Trans sensors.
Don’t forget to use this on an old X trans sensor like I or II for even more deliciousness. Currently all I’m rocking is an XT1 and this lens and an X100V and that covers all the focal lengths I need or want. Telephotos are too heavy to be enjoyable and wide angles are not necessary, for me. Only thing is I wish the V lens rendered images as nicely as the 35 but it’s not far off.
I LOVE THE LINE.. ABOUT RECOMMENDING THIS LENS TO ANYONE WHO HAS THE SOUL OF AN ARTIST! THAT IS SOOO TRUE!!! THAT IS FUJI -PERIOD!!! I'VE ALWAYS SAID... FUJIFILM MAKES IT SO EASY FOR ME TO BRING OUT MY CREATIVITY! SURE; IT'S ME! I HAVE NO DOUBTS IN MY MIND, WHAT I AM PICKING UP TO GET THE JOB DONE IN THE STREETS!! ANOTHER REALLY GOOD VIDEO! Dude..Fuji should collaborate with you on this video to sell new old stock. Not that I shoot autofocus lenses anymore really..but I still have this one and def is my fav for all the reasons you so graciously portrayed. Well done my friend.
Lol! Thanks for the kind words, but I think Fuji has enough buckets of money from the X100vi - they should have charged like $3k, and I think it would have sold! High praise from you means a lot man! Thank you!
@@venom2k2 LoL! I hear ya... but the Voigtlanders for X mount are muddy AF (not as in Autofocus!) - no dreamy falloff, no ethereal halation, nada. On the bright side, Fuji just dropped the X100vi this morning, and there's even a limited edition available if you want a real poor-man's Leica. Looks like you another year and change if you're waiting for an X-Pro4
This is my favourite lens but I have just bought the 33m f1.4 (primarily for speed and video). Keen to see whether this new one has the magic, or not. Love the video by the way. The colour grading is delightful, and the music works really well 👏
Some very nice pics Jerred! I sometimes use my 35mm f2 and find it a bit clinical. Great lens but no surprises good or bad lol. The 1.4 seems like it might get along better with me lol. Great video bud. Nicely done and totally relatable

Great, great sruff, Jerred 👏🏻 Amazing photo collection there... Can you say some general comments about how you achieve these tones? Do you base your edits off, perhaps, Classic Chrome then edit from there? What main things do you usually change? You may have spoken about this before but I don't have it in mind. Man, I want one of these now! Even though I dislike moving front elements and jurassic cluncky AF (not just for the slowness but especially the grindy mechanics). And I know the lens alone is far from making these pictures - YOU made them! But the rendering from this lens is utterly DELICIOUS indeed! 🔥 Thanks for sharing, man!
YOOO!! How are you? Thanks for the compliments! And as for editing, I have no idea. That sounds ridiculous, but these days I don't do much with Fuji profiles. I just shoot in RAW and usually provia, and then I apply my own presets to them. These were almost all with some new presets I was messing around with for a rich, "deep" look. Maybe I should make a video about it?
