    I shot thousands of portraits with that lens and an xt2. It was a great investment. Funny thing, I owned the 56 1.2 since the day I bought it with the xt2 and never used it because I mostly had tight spaces for the portraits. I just recently was able to use the 56 about 3 weeks ago and not looking back to the 35 f2 lol. Both great lenses, but the 56 just produces some kind of witchcraft that I can’t seem to figure out how it does it but man oh man my clients loved it! But the 35 was an amazing investment and won’t hesitate to go back to it if need be.

      You’re absolutely right. The 56 is absolutely amazing. But the 35 f2 and its compact size it awesome in its own right. Anytime I need a 50mm equivalent I reach for the 35mmf2. You really can’t go wrong with any Fujifilm lens. Speaking of the xt2 my wife still owns and uses hers. She’s had it since the year it came out and doesn’t plan to ever get rid of it.

      @@sethpotterphoto I sold all my canon gear when the xt2 came out and paired it with the 56. While I miss canon full frame, the shooting experience on the Fuji sold me. I learned photography in the late 90’s with a canon slr and then Nikon em. The Em was so much fun, but I missed the x pro 1 release. Since I was doing portrait work, the xt2 just made so much sense. If an x pro 4 is realeased, I might get that camera to pair with my x100v as my “fun” camera, but the xt2 will continue to be my work horse. I’ve shot images that have been on billboards with it, so I see no need to upgrade to a higher pixel count.

      @@BUCKSHOTSTV sounds like you’ve been in the photography game for a long time, that’s awesome. Believe it or not I started shooting in the 90’s too although I was very young so I wasn’t trusted with much more than a toy pokemon point and shoot. And I didn’t get serious about photography until around 2015 or so.
      I once shot with a canon full frame camera and I don’t think I’ll ever purchase one. I didn’t notice a jump in image quality and I had to work on that file so much more than I ever needed to work on a Fuji file. The canon file just didn’t want to work with me for some reason. I can’t really explain it.
      The xt2 is a phenomenal camera but the xt5 has been amazing for me too. I genuinely think Fuji pulled off something amazing with the new sensor and lenses. I’m planning to have my xt5 for a very long time but the xpro4 is certainly something I’m looking forward too.

    Nice video! I just got me a used xt2 and have no fuji lenses jet. Playing around with vintage canon fd lenses. Have much fun with that. This 35mm looks like a good first fuji for me. Thanks. 👍

      That’s something I’ve yet to do on my Fuji cameras. I’ve got some vintage glass laying around begging to be adapted.
      I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the 35 f2!

    I'm no longer using the XF system but my only real regret when switching was not keeping my X-E1 and the 35 f2. (The 1.4 is crazy sharp but I just really enjoyed the f2.) It really fits the compact and range finder style line of cameras.

    I had it in my collection along with the 35mm f1.4 , the 23mm f2, the 18mm f2, and the 60mm f2..I really liked it but having two 35mm didn't make much sense to me..even having the other lenses don't make much sense.. because I use the 35mm f1.4 98% of the time

    Never tried this lens. My favourite is the 35mm f1.4 - actually working on youtube video about it,. Also a wonderful lens.
    i will buy this 35 or the 23mm f2 just to own one more modern and lighter WR lens.

    My 35/2 will arrive tomorrow; just $244 shipped (including sales tax!), including a rectangular metal hood (third-party). Speaking of hoods, I'm curious: Why don;t you use one on your 35/2?

    • @sethpotterphoto
      @sethpotterphoto  Місяць тому +1

      Excellent deal! I do use a hood when I feel like it/when the situation call for one. For this video I chose to remove it to better show the lens.

    What about solar "flares"? No lens hood needed?

    • @sethpotterphoto
      @sethpotterphoto  Місяць тому +1

      In my experience with this lens I haven’t had any issues with lens flare. In the right conditions all lenses will flare and some have more pleasing flare characteristics than others.
      The lens includes a hood so no problems there. Thanks for asking!

    I have the 35 f2 , rarely use it , but agree with your comments. I will never buy a lens because of how it looks or how much it weighs or other physical negative attributes. I buy for the quality of the build & the quality of the image. I have the 23 f1.4 version II & enjoy using it. My latest acquisition is the 28 mm f 2.8 which I really like. For travel , I'll use my 18-135 Plus one prime. (XS-20 & XT-4)

    • @sethpotterphoto
      @sethpotterphoto  2 місяці тому +1

      I totally get that. I understand not buying something for how it looks, size, etc. but a lot of people do take those factors into account when making a purchase decision. I know I did. I bought into the Fuji system for the retro look in the first place.
      I’ve also been using the newer 23 1.4 and it’s phenomenal. Might be a new favorite of mine for the Fuji system. Time will tell.
      Congrats on picking up the 28 2.8. I’ve wanted a pancake lens for my Fuji cameras. Just haven’t grabbed one yet.
      I don’t have any experience with the 18-135 but it sounds like it’s extremely versatile.
      Thank you for commenting.

    • @sethpotterphoto
      @sethpotterphoto  Місяць тому +1

      Well, I think the clicky aperture might cause you some issues.
      If you’re using the built in mic or a shotgun mic in the hotshoe you’d most likely hear the autofocus motor.
      So it would depend on what you’re recording. If you’re recording in a silent room you’ll definitely hear the lens. If you’re out and about recording audio on the move with lots of ambient sounds you might not notice the autofocus noise.

    I'm so torn between the 1.4 and the 2 - the 2 is the sensible choice (small, light, fastish, weather sealed, less expensive) - but the 1.4 'magic' is something I'm intrigued by. Hard to say - but having owned both did the 1.4 create noticeably more unique images, or is the reality that most humans couldn't tell the difference?

    • @sethpotterphoto
      @sethpotterphoto  10 місяців тому +1

      Hmm, “magic” in a lens is subjective. For me the f2 is “magic” because it was my first prime lens and is still a favorite of mine. I can’t say that I noticed a meaningful difference between the two lenses. At the time I owned both I wasn’t comparing. I simply needed another 50 equivalent lens for my wife to use and figured it would be better to grab something different.
      If you need the extra stop of light and don’t mind the slower noisier focusing or the lack of weather sealing then the 1.4 could be the lens for you. But if you want something small, light, fast focusing and weather sealed then the f2 is the one.
      You could always try renting each lens for a weekend. It might cost a little bit but you’ll know for sure which one is for you without having to “what if” about the one you didn’t choose.
