Thank you for bringing this to light. As the adult child of a parent who smoked marijuana, I can tell you how frightening it was to be dependent on someone who was constantly impaired. There were also radical shifts in temperament that made it impossible to develop any sense of safety and security. My feelings on it will be dismissed by those pushing for legalization, but they are the same types of people as my parent who was addicted. After my childhood experience, it is something I've learned to deal with through the loving light of God.
Your story is the mirror image of mine. I have struggled dealing with the lack of feeling safe and secure into adulthood because of it. It’s easy to become a control freak when your childhood lacked a responsible parent who cared more for getting and being high 24/7 than being a decent parent. My thoughts and prayers for you, my brother/sister in trauma. It should have been an easy choice to choose your children over anything, but that just isn’t how life ends up for some of us.
I used to smoke as a teenager and I would get extremely paranoid, evrything was a conspiracy and I would get suspicious of my friends and family and even strangers, and the anxiety was so intense that it crushed my spirit. The fun I had at the beggining was not worth the negatives, some of them permanent.
20:47 considering there are some people who will not stop smoking pot to get their kids back makes it addiction. Pot can be just as addicting as alcohol and tobacco.
If kids had to work hard at life like the 70’s did, they wouldn’t even want weed…. Morals gone and government raising your kids is a big part of America’s downfall .

I’m sorry for their loss, but trying to blame marijuana as the only factor in their son’s death is grasping for straws. Sounds like their son had a mental breakdown at the time of his suicide. You might as well blame alcohol and other drugs in the mix for his demise. You don’t just smoke weed and do nothing else to feel the way he felt when he committed suicide.
What I picked up watching the opening with Randy was he had issues before he turned to marijuana. I havent even watched the show yet, just the opening. One thing I find interesting about young people today is how they embrace their mental problems and it seems odd Randy didnt seek help either with his parents or with a counselor at school or church. Help is everywhere. There are no drugs, not even the one's psychiatrists prescribe, that are going to do anything more than mask over a festering problem. Alcohol effects people even worse. If you are an introverted person, or someone that represses their negative feelings, alcohol will make you vommit all that up 10-fold if you get drunk enough. RIP Randy. I would add that I dont believe marijuana in its natural form is very harmful at all. That said, what they sell in the smoke shops is not marijuana in its natural form. The flower is GMO and has little to no seeds. It used to be that if you held a bud up to the light it sparkled. That is called Keif, and it is removed for you to buy it separately. The concentrates are a complete mystery. Some look like hash, but none smell like hash. There is no reason for hash to smell like a chemical or a perfume. The oils, if you read how they are made, will make you cringe. As someone that looked forward to the legalization of marijuana, I dont even buy it. I eat organic non-GMO so why would I dare use that crap? Its a complete disappointment and its easy to see with all the manipulation of it how it very well may be addictive, and lord knows what the solvents used in the production of the concentrates will do to your brain. Its easy to see it is no longer anything close to healthy.

Well i have been a Truck Driver all my life, and I was hit by a drunk driver in my truck. I’ve had several back surgeries. I have steel rods in my back and always suffer with pain. When marijuana became legal where I live my doctor’s, decided that I should try that. Now keep in mind I’ve never done drugs all my life being a truck driver. If you fail a drug test you’ll never work again so on my doctors request, I tried it. I gave it a try for almost a year and sitting here today I can tell you, anybody who tells you they use marijuana for pain is LYING to you. You have to smoke so much of it that you’re basically a vegetable for it to do anything for the back pain. Needless to say, I don’t use it anymore.
The real question is why do we have a culture that is looking for anything and everything to self medicate. We are unhealthy people trying to justify doing unhealthy things by saying, "well weed isnt as bad as other things."

Right, my spinal injury left me unable to walk, and surgery wasn't possible. The amount of pain medicine - Oxy and Methadone - the dose was high. I am walking... And finally went cold turkey, after 22 years of those pain meds. It's been a couple years and though the withdrawal was god awful... But, now I am back in school and doing well.
Marijuana induced psychosis is absolutely a real thing but there were other substances in the videos so it’s hard to say that his mental illness was brought on by weed alone or at all. He may have developed mental illness and was self medicating with multiple substances. I feel awful for the family though, regardless of the reason…. I couldn’t imagine losing a child. I think that marijuana can be used responsibly and has medical benefits. Each individual is different and will obviously be effected differently.
You shouldn't be smoking at 15. Your brain is still developing. Plus I saw a bunch of alcohol bottles. Combining the two is a bad idea. I'm not sure after seeing the alcohol whether we can attribute this death to just marijuana. I want to see studies done on people who have committed harm on marijuana vs harm committed on alcohol. I'm pretty sure that would show a significant difference between the two.
That's when people smoke it. I did at 14 and I still do today at 60. People can't handle it and you know if you can or can't. It's a tough subject for some
It can cause panic attacks in some people..... it should be used medically. We know in medical patients none of these things are happening. I love how the first kid was drinking alcohol and smoking, but nothing is said about alcohol psychosis. Which is real.
The result of plants bred for maximum THC without taking any other cannabinoid into consideration. For instance, a 1:1 THC/CBD ratio is far less likely to produce negative effects 30% THC, 1% CBD. Not to mention the other ones that contribute to the overall effect. As soon as we move away from THC% being the only thing that matters, that’s when we’ll have good weed choices without sending people directly into psychosis because of THCShock.
pot lets me eat. im on chemo my food intake would be none i can go for days without eating. i smoke pot and i can eat. it is not easy to find a strain that works and they keep switching what they have available but it works for me where nothing else did.
All the defense over weed is crazy. Maybe you guys should just understand its not for everyone. And maybe it is bad for some peoples mental health. I know i cant smoke anymore because it scares me. I feel like im dying every time i smoke. I used to smoke in HS all the time. Im 30 now and have panic attacks every time ive done it since hs basically .. Ill never do it again. 3 years ago was the last time i smoked weed.
First of all, Randy Jr here… wasn’t just high on marijuana. Nobody talks the way he did over a “weed head” state of mind. You see all the alcohol in the video. So where’s the stuff you don’t see?In the “music scene “/mindset you don’t have a normal sleep habit. There’s a reason he “NEVER got diagnosed” with psychosis of marijuana. The boy was under one of two things. He had metal problems alone and used drugs. Or it was a combination of drugs and bad overall physical/mental conditions. I don’t vote one way or the other. In my opinion you somewhat opt out of “free will “ the moment you believe you need to vote for your permissions.
Marijuana isn't killing anyone. I rarely smoke anymore. I used to smoke daily when i was younger, but quit when i turned 23. I'm 37 now, and smoke on my birthdays. These kids have some other mental problems, obviously, I'm sure weed doesn't help that.
My 27 year old son has fallen victims to this. He has been using since the age of 14 and been hospitalized for Marijuana induced psychosis, also Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. I wish he never picked up this habit 😢
My son started using marijuana at 15, maybe younger. We couldn’t protect him from it as we lived in Washington state and it’s legal. Most of the kids use it in all the public schools. He’s 21 now, has had psychiatric episodes and even a seizure while he was driving and woke up in the hospital. He has been trying to quit but so far has been unsuccessful. As of now he has gotten his medical card, which was very easy for him, he’s in Utah now. Today’s legal cannabis is killing our children. Any one that disagrees with that I pray they never have to learn the way that I have.
making it illegal again wont do anything.... i smoked everyday as a teen .... buying it on the street from shady people.... so if your kid wants to smoke .... they are going to smoke legal or not
If it was not illegal, people could just grow their own plants. It's just a plant... But if the plant was legal then the government could not make a profit off of it. It's all about the money.
I'm 67. I used to smoke weed everyday in the 1970s and 80s. I used to get really stoned, but it took a lot of weed to get to that level. Bowl after bowl, or one joint after another. I quit for 20 years. Fast forward to 45 years old. I smoked a tiny joint with a friend and got way too stoned. I had to go lay down til it stopped. Age 50, I took two tokes off of a joint. I was so blasted I had to stay on the couch for hours. Age 55, I tried again. ONE small toke! I got so stoned I felt sick. I thought I waS going to die. I was afraid. Today's weed is WAY TOO STRONG. I'm afraid for my daughter and her husband. They each carry a one hitter in their pockets. They smoke all day every day, they never stop. Everytime their son looks away, they are sneaking a toke. Weed has gotten deadly.
Pot is not what it used to be. THC vapes are awful. My grandson is basically going to rehab for a year, due to these problems. He has ADD and anxiety, self medicating…it is horrible. I am so sorry for these parents💕
I have to say that in my 20’s ( 1980’s) and I had a adverse reaction and psychosis episodes and have tried edibles and topical remedies for pain, sleep and anxiety over the years and have decided to be abstinent for Cannabis, so it is definitely subjective to each person and should definitely not be used by anyone under 18-21 years of age.
Then we could sit down and figure out how they think 70% of Americans are calling 911 about pot EVERY year... LOL This whole story is full of shit.. The kid was on anti-depressants to control his demons... and unfortunately, they're blaming his death on the wrong shit and making up fake statistics.
My younger brother started to smoke mary jane in high school. It destroyed his life! He's a 45 year old man without a job that lives at home with our mother. 💔 This was from the 90s w33d!! I can't even imagine what todays w33d is doing to our youth. 😢
Dr. Phil, can you please talk about suicide concerning young people, ages 14 and up. My grandson killed himself a couple of months ago. We took him in to our home because he was not living in a stable home. Long story short, we got him in to a good school, a better life, or so we thought. The pain is so unbearable. What are grandparents to do?
It's not talked about enough, that if you use prescribed anti-depressants and take one drink of alcohol- this can be a trigger for extreme psychosis. Especially with a co-occuring mental health issue that's been long overlooked by everyone in positions to recognize it.
I think many things are addicting, I do agree the strains are being tweaked to be stronger and maybe should not be recreational and study them more. I don’t believe it’s a schedule 1 drug and alcohol is worse. I’m cool with a 25 year old age limit for alcohol and cannabis.
Everything changed for me for the better. Better grades, more calm. Always held a job since 16. I now lay carpet for a living. And I'm a form Carpenter and plumber/ electrician
I think a big question here is "should Americans have the CHOICE to use marijuana?" Most answer "yes." 68% is referenced in the video. It breaks my heart to see the parents in this video. I have a 16-year-old son and would be inconsolable if he died. But the lady with the counterpoint is not FOR children using it. I think people are quick to jump to that conclusion. She seems to be simply saying that it can be a good alternative for adults who don't want to take benzodiazepines and/or anti-depressants. As Dr. Phil said, it is not a good thing to use when your brain hasn't fully developed yet. But does that mean that adults should not have access to it?
YOUR MISSING IT !!!! What you need to regulate is the amount of THC allowed in the product. Set one low safe level and lock it in with law. If you HAVE TO GET BAKED, smoke a second joint. This is not rocket science.
They also said 240 million 911 calls about pot every year.... That's total bullshit. That would mean every American adult calls 911 about pot every year.
Weed today is way stronger than it should be. It should go back to a lower level of thc and children should not be taking it unless it’s really necessary, like for kids with cancer or anorexia. I don’t smoke but I have. I also know some ppl can’t handle thc.
Over the summer this year I’m 2024 a 16 year old boy died smoking weed he didn’t know was laced with fentanyl. I think that’s why it should be legally bought like alcohol.
Smoked in the 90’s myself.. I just can’t believe why anyone would need 96% THC..?!?! Or the dab pen..?? I believe it’s okay for medical reasons.. but even a doctor surly wouldn’t prescribed 96%..?!?!
We have weed stores on every corner in Canada and it was pushed as safe....my 2 young adult kids use it and it changed them drastically. My brother has psychotic episodes from it. It seems like everyone uses it. IT IS DANGEROUS.
They're obviously no good at that.... The kid had mental problems and they're using fake statistics to blame it on weed. Weed is low-key and safe... Anti-depressants and metal problems are the most likely cause.
So sorry for the family’s loss, but it was NOT marijuana that killed this child, as a matter of fact, these parents should be blaming themselves not a drug.
With alcohol being legal I cannot take serious any people complaining about weed. The numbers alcohol does on damage on people and their families, are nothing in comparison to the exception cases that weed has. Everything you do too much is bad! Even healthy things! Not saying weed is healthy, but it’s 100 times better in any situation than alcohol. Proof me wrong!
I smoke on a regular basis there’s been times I’d get a little paranoid but nothing like this, I was just mostly worried someone knew I was stoned i hardly ever happened and it definitely helps with menopause symptoms great
Jane definitely presented some logically flawed reasoning in her statements. If cigarettes, and even food, can be addictive, so can marijuana of any type or THC level. Furthermore, I don't know of any feel-good or mind-altering substance that isn't addictive. If it's addictive, it's going to harm health in some way, and a reliance on a drug to solve otherwise solvable issues just teaches laziness and an avoidance of working through life's struggles.
What about this of us who need a 4:1 THC to CBD ratio to assist with cancer pain and healing. I can't stand the smell of Marijuana and yet I will have to make a proper 1 gram dose per day. Taken rectally and orally as RSO it's doing so much good for people who use it wisely? I am not prone to addiction, do not drink, won't smoke or vape but would like it properly regulated for cancer and chronic conditions. It's not for children or anyone under 2 and for addictive people. Clearly, Dr Phil has bias due to the awful consequences it had for his own life where dad was an alcoholic. I take issue with parents who become passive about their addictive children's use. I would put these children on early rehab and they can hate me for giving them purpose filled lives. No phones, camping out, working the fields, clean out stalls, eat fresh food and get away from enabling parents and environments. If they're still addicted after intensive retreats, then so be it. You can try once more and then, as a parent tell that child "we're done, you're on your own now, I love you. Take the consequences of your actions. You're welcome back when you are sober."
Kids shouldnt have weed because their brains are not done yet. Most people who develop issues with grass most likely did it a lot when they were young.
This episode is a reload from a few months back. I will say the same as before. Alcohol was obviously involved, it was shown on the clip. It seems like Maryjane could of been laced with something else. Dr. Phil, please view Marijuana in someone else's eyes. Interview Charlotte Fiji's parents on this subject.
Where the hell does Dr. Phil find these overdramatic idiots. These people cant be taken seriously. I'm legitimately surprised Dr. Phil is platforming these losers. It's almost so fake it's unbelievable.
Well I have to say , unless u have experience you cant judge Wèed is the lesser of the drugs. Sorry , that dude that says he has a problem.; is NOT SMOKING REAL WEED
Exactly. I have experience with a good bit of substances, and Marijuana, (even the really potent bud they have today) it's not destroying lives, killing people, or addictive. It's so far down on the list of dangerous products. I'd argue some kind of chemical in our food is more harmful than weed.

Scripture says it's immoral for people who don't do it to judge those who do.

Too much of ANYTHING is not good for you ....... even water
Correct....puff,puff,pass...🙏
Who's to say that these kinds weren't undiagnosed schizophrenic?
They could be... schizophrenia doesnt come out until early 20's

As soon as we move away from THC% being the only thing that matters, that’s when we’ll have good weed choices without sending people directly into psychosis because of THCShock.
People just can’t handle it. If you can’t hold your own don’t partake
pot lets me eat. im on chemo my food intake would be none i can go for days without eating. i smoke pot and i can eat. it is not easy to find a strain that works and they keep switching what they have available but it works for me where nothing else did.
Thank you, Dr. Phil for classifying the obvious: this is a psychosis. All addictions are a psychosis, not a disease.
The issue with weed is its perceived harmlessness. People view it as helpful and so don’t fear it enough.
Yep. The weed these days is way too strong and we don't know what chemicals they're putting in the soil.
Everything isn’t for everyone - stick to the flower, my friends 👌
and smoke instead of eating it
@ good point 🙏
I will never ever ever talk another pill or let a dr. Touch me ever! Weed is is love and freedom.
21 and older
That’s the point
Crazy this is what meth dose to me not weed. Glad they never got ahold of real drugs
The kid was obviously doing more drugs than pot...
Anti-depressants are most likely what caused his psychosis.... DEFINITELY wasn't weed.
@TheHolyGhost777 sounds right! My sister had a crazy reaction to the pair. It was not ok!
THANK YOU! It only took a few hits for me in the 70s & 80s and if anymore I became paranoid. Herb is now tampered with, not good!
The pens are even more dangerous. That’s concentrated. They’re at risk of cannabis hypermesis with the pens.
Pot is not what it used to be. THC vapes are awful. My grandson is basically going to rehab for a year, due to these problems. He has ADD and anxiety, self medicating…it is horrible. I am so sorry for these parents💕
He was a little boy with a young mind and doing high dose carts all day? This aint weeds fault. Stop this.
I don’t think kids should smoke pot. I believe it is medicinal and recreational and should be controlled like alcohol.
The problem is that every kid that hears the pro-marijuana lady speak is going to listen ONLY to that.
I want some of that 96percent
Then we could sit down and figure out how they think 70% of Americans are calling 911 about pot EVERY year... LOL
This whole story is full of shit..
The kid was on anti-depressants to control his demons... and unfortunately, they're blaming his death on the wrong shit and making up fake statistics.
My heart goes out to Randy's parents :
I am so sorry 😢🥺
My younger brother started to smoke mary jane in high school. It destroyed his life!
He's a 45 year old man without a job that lives at home with our mother. 💔
This was from the 90s w33d!!
What are grandparents to do?
i've been smoking weed since was 16 and i'm 32 now. I'm fine. Never had any issues with my smoking whatsoever.
It's not talked about enough, that if you use prescribed anti-depressants and take one drink of alcohol- this can be a trigger for extreme psychosis. Especially with a co-occuring mental health issue that's been long overlooked by everyone in positions to recognize it.
its not weed, its HIS BRAIN
Nah the way I cackled when bro said they ate pot brownies and think they’re dead 😂 that cannot be a real call
Some people cant handle weed, the dangerous thing is when you dont realize it.
I think many things are addicting, I do agree the strains are being tweaked to be stronger and maybe should not be recreational and study them more. I don’t believe it’s a schedule 1 drug and alcohol is worse. I’m cool with a 25 year old age limit for alcohol and cannabis.
I smoke a bit, but constantly over a period of time makes me realize, unfortunately what goes up must come down.
Lol. It's the person. I've been smoking since 10th grade, I'm 39. And I worked all Tru high-school and I was fine. Bologna
If someone takes their life addicted to any other substance we don't call it psychosis, so why in this situation?
YOUR MISSING IT !!!!
What you need to regulate is the amount of THC allowed in the product. Set one low safe level and lock it in with law. If you HAVE TO GET BAKED, smoke a second joint. This is not rocket science.
They also said 240 million 911 calls about pot every year....
That's total bullshit. That would mean every American adult calls 911 about pot every year.
Adults don’t need regulations. Children shouldn’t be smoking.
People with cancer need it strong. Hence why it should be medical use only. Also bring cbd cbn and cbc back in strains.
We don't have percentage limits on alcohol, I have severe pain and the high 30 percent thc flower helps alot.
@ These anti pot people don’t give a damn about our pain.
Weed today is way stronger than it should be. It should go back to a lower level of thc and children should not be taking it unless it’s really necessary, like for kids with cancer or anorexia. I don’t smoke but I have. I also know some ppl can’t handle thc.
I feel like this is mental illness. Not weed. He was also at the age that schizophrenia develops…. I can’t believe this was not addressed.
Over the summer this year I’m 2024 a 16 year old boy died smoking weed he didn’t know was laced with fentanyl. I think that’s why it should be legally bought like alcohol.
Thank you for shedding light on this dark topic…..
Right... God's flower is real dark.
bs.
Hash has been around for 1000s of years! High doses aint nee at all!
Kolby on something else!! 💯
Im sorry but there son was mentally ill, almost the other dude
Smoked in the 90’s myself.. I just can’t believe why anyone would need 96% THC..?!?! Or the dab pen..?? I believe it’s okay for medical reasons.. but even a doctor surly wouldn’t prescribed 96%..?!?!
Im.pretty sure he was doing meth not weed.lol ive got plenty of stories about this wanna go? 😅
We have weed stores on every corner in Canada and it was pushed as safe....my 2 young adult kids use it and it changed them drastically. My brother has psychotic episodes from it. It seems like everyone uses it. IT IS DANGEROUS.
You don't get psychotic from smoking pot.
You get that from the other drugs... Like amphetamines and anti-depressants.
So what about the parents? This is a perent problem. Learn to raise your kids!
Gross
You probably smoke it, and are ignorant or just lucky it hasn’t happened to you YET!
If you abuse anything it can kill you. Teach people responsible use.
I smoke on a regular basis there’s been times I’d get a little paranoid but nothing like this, I was just mostly worried someone knew I was stoned i hardly ever happened and it definitely helps with menopause symptoms great
Weed dumbs you down, a lot…..
Sorry sister, but no teen, whose minds are still growing, is better off smoking weed.. and especially today..
I bet they aren't fighting to have the legal age of alcohol to 35.
I hate my weed addiction
35:16 you cant prove it when its still scheduled as a 1.
Im 69 and have never seen fentanyl of any kind
Freyed ends of sanity hear them calling me hear them calling me haha.
Good observation, Dr. Phil. This ain’t your father’s Mexican ditch weed.
Started at 14 no big deal honestly
Wow 25:03 just wow
These problems weren't caused by weed period!!!!!!
Yall must be getting way better weed than me.
13:24 marijuana is not addictive. At least not physically.
Tobacco 2.0 is a good label for today's pot.
If you grow it yourself you dont have t o worry about all the additives that street weed or bought from a weed store has in theirs ..
Is this a fake episode? or am I really high right now?
How often was he drinking alcohol? And was he mixing it with marijuana? This story isnt quite right if he was adding other substances.
Another thing, many young people including those 21, and over.. who are already on head meds.. are smoking marijuana.. hmm
Where the hell does Dr. Phil find these overdramatic idiots. These people cant be taken seriously. I'm legitimately surprised Dr. Phil is platforming these losers. It's almost so fake it's unbelievable.
WEED??? Y'all MADE THAT SHEET UP.
Not the real herb untampered with should not be judged..
She said he wasnt ok mentally...... not weeds fault.....
You are obviously ignorant or just lucky so far
@giabella901 lucky? Far from it. 😆
I been smoking weed since I was 8 years old. You can't od on it 💯 never have had anything like this happen and max %of the in plants is 29%
It's not the weed... he was dealing with some other demons inside..
That Cody dude was not on weed.
