They do a great version from the Cave of this song and it shows who's singing the vocals and you can hear all the instruments much clearer. Lzzy Hale saw that video and reached out to them to join her on tour. It's one of my favorite endings to a song by them of many but Pau's fills and drumming is next level on every version I've seen. Thanks Mike. 🤟🔥⚡🔥⚡⚡
Ale's bass is slammin in this song ! Thats why I love this concert so much because the bass and Ale's performance. Definitely my all time favorite Warning song but it's way to short !
Dull freaking Knives! This is a perfect song, and for me, the best song they have yet to write. It is powerful, and concise. The arrangement is impeccable. Every note is perfectly placed. There is nothing wasted, or superfluous. LOVE IT.
@@juanjosearnedo9000 Ale was like 1 when her sisters started piano, and like 3 when her sister got the rock band game? Too young to play so she would just 👏 clap 😃
Please make sure you also check Cave De(Tour) version as well as Teatro Metropolitan. No one's life should be complete before they watch Dull Knives from The Warning Cave. IMO 😆
Dull Knives is definitely a crowd favorite. They have a version performed in The Warning Cave (their basement) during covid which is awesome. Also, a few of the QOTMS songs are performed at Teatro Metropolitan, as you know, and they are all interesting upgrades because of the band being 4-5 years older and the great sound and lights quality. Would love to see you react to them as newer versions. It's kinda' part of their story, how they've improved, that The Warning army loves, so I'm sure there'd be lots of us tuning in.
Dany has turned into a tease when they play this song now. She hits that first note and lets it ring out then stops it to evoke a crowd reaction. She'll do it three or four times which get the crowd going. And then melts everyone's face.
Just a freaking fantastic song from start to end. The thundering bass, breakdown at the end, and a crowd favorite. I would still want this on set list 20 years from now.
Too short? Just put it on repeat. Pau IS singing. There is a whisper effect in the background on the vocals, that is her. IDK if she is doing it live or if it comes from the backing track alone when they perform it live, but it adds a huge creepy effect, especially knowing the Queen is mentally splitting apart.
AHHHHHHH Dull Knives the best 3 minutes in Rock history they tried to make guitar leads for it but the song begged them to leave it alone. They said " If it's to short just play it again" When you get done with QOTMS there is a series of 3 vlogs where the girls explain how they wrote this album, and as a bonus you really get to know them better see how these wonderful young girls really are. Warning vlogs are 23, 25, 26 trust me you'll enjoy the writing process explaned.
This is the song that originally got Lzzy Hale's attention during there Dtour performance and ultimately lead to the open in for The Pretty Reckless and Halestorm. The same tour that Lzzy gifted Dany with the white explorer on stage mid set.
I am plucking roses but keeping the thorns...Pau at her darkest metaphorical best. I can not claim that I have heard every poetry written so far in the couple of languages that I know in depth. To me it looks unlikely that any poet has ever prioritized thorns over roses. Pasting below an excerpt from my reaction to this song earlier "Take Dull Knives (Cut Better) for example. We know that sharp knives cut better. Why dull? Because the poet, in this case Pau, wants it to be a messy affair. A sharp knife will cut clean but not a blunt one. Next comes the use of the word "dull". In English "blunt" is the adjective used to describe a knife that is not sharp. But Pau used dull to make us think & relate to bluntness of a knife. Intellectualism at its best!!! And then she goes on to write - "I am plucking roses but keeping the thorns". We have come across numerous references to thorns in a bunch of roses in literature. But seldom had any poet said that she preferred to keep the thorns as a prickly reminder of her misery & desperation. How dark is that poetry!!! How dark is Pau's mindspace!!!" I never thought that it will be possible for a great hard rock song to be composed in this millennium. Pau & her sisters proved me wrong. If ever a song is needed to introduce someone to hard rock then this is it. Unbelievable that a 15 year old girl going through her emo phase in middle school can write such metaphorical poetry about a person contemplating suicide. "The rush that's in my veins, I can't control it Tell me why This voice that's in my head is getting stronger Tell me how The aching in my bones is taking over Tell me why My blood ain't spilling red I'm freaking out!" What a start to the song!!! As the Spanish will say "locura" or madness. Roger Waters mused over despair, death & lunacy in Dark Side of the Moon exactly 50 years back from today. In 2017-18 three sisters from Mexico aged 17, 15 & 12 repeated that darkness in Queen of the Murder Scene. And the world haven't heard about them 😥
Great ears and great reaction/analysis! I never noticed the church bell on this video before. It's not on the album or on the Teatro Metropólitan video (which is awesome). Instead, there's a clean break, which I really like. This song is 3 minutes and 3 seconds that grab you so hard you feel like it was less than a minute.
A compact gem of a headbanger that's one of their signature songs. There have been complaints all along that this song is too short (including from their father). They tried some experiments, including a guitar solo, another chorus, and maybe some other things. They decided that none of them improved the song, so they kept it as it is, and said that if people think it's too short they should simply put it on repeat. To me, that demonstrates great wisdom and restraint on their part, demonstrating understanding that less so often is more. They had a bad experience with certain producers, whom they wound up not using, who decided that they knew better than three girls, who tried to force changes of that sort into the song. I think they learned a lot about trusting their instincts and sticking to their guns from that. That's not to say that they aren't willing to listen to advice -- far from it -- but no less than David Bendeth learned that they brook no disagreement with their fundamental artistic vision. I think this is the first song they played publicly from this album, at the Hell and Heaven festival in Mexico in 2017. This festival was a metal festival, which they only realized hearing some of the earlier bands, and were nervous that as a rock band they'd be chased off the stage. To the contrary, as they played their set more and more people filtered in. This song got a huge (positive) response from the crowd, who picked up on it very quickly. This song marked another important stage in their development. In 2020, a virtual concert (the (De)Tour event) was organized to raise funds for small venues that were unable to do business during the pandemic. This included top tier artists such as Ringo Starr, among many others. This song was so popular that it was the only song repeated during the show. They played it from their basement studio at home (the "Cave"). This performance is considered the reference recording of this song. Lzzy Hale commented during the show that she wanted to take them on tour, which finally happened in 2020. Halestorm, Lzzy and Arejay in particular, are big fans of The Warning. Arejay sat in for Pau on Narcisista a few times on tour to enable Pau to front the song, and Lzzy personally gifted Dany a guitar on stage. There are fan videos of this moving moment. It was a complete surprise for Dany, who was shocked enough at what she thought was Lzzy loaning her the guitar and only found out afterwards that it was a brand new guitar that was given to her. There's an acoustic version with Pau on piano and Dany singing that was done as a Patreon reward many years ago. It has, to me, a strong Beethoven middle period feel to it, due to the singing and piano style in addition to the music. As so often with Pau videos, it's essential to listen to the *very* end. Dany teases the crowd these days by playing the first note (E, as a harmonic on the top string by the look of it) in isolation several times while she waits for the response to be strong enough for her, and then they launch into the song.
