As a kid I was scared by the idea of people on the Internet finding me in real life and now it's the otherway around
This is more of a
“How to piss a furry off.”
💀
I know I'm in trouble if my parents call me by my full name,
But if they call me by a furry name, I'm straight up running and never looking back.
If they somehow find my furry name ima be like *I plead the 5th and want my lawyer present*
Do not call a furry zoophile, they are not.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I mean, sometimes they are
I have to say the first time a furry friend gave me their real name it was really nice. We had given eachother some emotional suport via chat, and I had thinked him with his screen name and then he gave me his true name.
I'm a bit of a fanticy nerd and giving someone your name in a number of stories I've read is a show of trust, and it really feels the same way when it happens with a furry friedn.
That being said I'm more than happy to call someone by their sona name. Heck even people I know IRL I will call them by their sona or D&D character name.
Me realizing that I’m a furry and that I can’t escape it no matter how hard I try:
The DnD character name hah. None of my friends would call me by my DnD characters name lol
As a socially awkward furry, I feel like I need a series where beta describes, in detail, how to interact with anybody and make friends online and at a con
I recommend you not to try this
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) even Said in his Sunnah, “Call people by names or nicknames that they like, not names and nicknames they don’t like.” Thanks Brother Beta, for reinforcing Common Decency.
very well said 👍
So Flashgitz was right, calling a Furry by their Human name causes them... to behave "erratic".
I mean uhh quite litteraly, but yeah without the context your comment sounds extremely uhhh ummm... I have no idea what to say.
the animatronics do get a bit quirky at night 🐻🐰🐔🦊
It's more like "you don't know me like that 😒"
I love how Beta actually used “Steven” as the example.
Well, I guess I should had use "unpredictably".
Also by "erratic" I meant it get on their nerves to the point their actions are no longer normal.
Can I apprechiate the thumbnail for a second?
Maverick's fursuit head with that “you crossed the line, man” expression *just works* here and looks absolutely perfect with the text.
Don’t call a furry “the furry.” If you can’t refer to a furry as a unique individual then you’re probably not a furry and probably not a good person.
But that means that your also a bad person for being a furry lol 😆
@PancakeOWOTM being vague as a starting example because you aren't thinking of a particular furry doesn't mean it's disrespectful 🙄 I don't know how to word this better sorry
Me, a new furry who’s fursona is a saguaro cactus porcupine hybrid:
My fursona, zona, the saguaro cactus wondering what an parallel universe version of himself would look like:
*both of us suddenly get an idea and realize something, that we might be just well, the same, two exact consciousnesses just in wildly different universes*
And just to be clear, no I don’t think this actually is a real theory, I do believe in the many worlds theory, but when it comes to fiction, that isn’t based on real life, it’s not exactly going to be true. Being an Arizonan, I’ve always been fascinated with saguaro cacti, even roleplaying as one on Reddit. And now that I’m a furry, and realize there’s no going back, i think we all know what happens next, though some may consider their fursonas as simply well, extensions of themselves, I like to consider mine more of, an alternate universe version of myself, thus, not exactly breaking a mold or whatever. Look I just wanna comment but I just can’t come up with any ideas, ok?
YES THANK YOU
if my friends cant get my attention they call me by my furry name and i hate it.
omg that's hilarious
Damn 😭😭
The fursuit vs fursona name is an interesting conundrum. For me, my suit's name is Spice but the name I go by in the fandom is Bahamut. When in suit, I'll answer to either (or hey furry /snow leopard / cat... lol ) but when people ask for my socials where I post pics/vids in suit, it's not under the suit's name.
I'd be horrified because I never exposed my name on the Internet
That,s what is creepy about calling a furry by their real name
Ok jack we know your name
reminds me of a internet thing "we" did in school. the teacher is like. "everything you do on the internet can be easily traced back you. type in your name into the search engine and see how easy it is"
yeah, like virtually 0 results with legal name because User names exist.
i could look up the user name though and see what they mean to an extent.
back in my day~ inter net was still new. *waves virtual stick* but "we" students were already ahead of their internet lesson.
@@omosav yeah right dave
@Kittsuera there's a somewhat famous person with the same irl name as me so I'm safe lmao
‘call me anything, so long as you don’t call me late to dinner’
-Frederick Marryat (1834)
Never call a furry "cute"
Call a furry who denies their cuteness cute.
I was thinking the same thing
But all furries are cute (no exceptions).
Many furries like it tho
My thought before i clicked on this video
I think when you’re online, it’s just safer to go by a nickname.
I was at FWA 2023 and I was volunteered to do something during a panel and they asked for my name and I introduced myself as my real name instead of my fursona’s name because at the time I didn’t know what my fursonas name was. And everyone just looked at me weird and I literally just died after
the only issue w/ my furry name (kibbun) is that initially, when folks meet me, the interaction goes something like:
"hey ki- kye? kye-bun? kee-boon? kye-boon?"
(which, if you're curious, it's pronounced "kih-buhn")
I really had to laugh at "hearing my name and my mom whooping my ass"... I hear you bro... I hear you
Thank you for sharing this moment and lesson with us, "Beta the Life Jacket Furry." I don't yours or the other furries real names, but I'm okay with that. Plus, the characters names have already become easy for me to remember buddy, again, I'm OK with that.
I feel this so much because im a streamer and so are my online friends when i found out their irl names i still and always will refer to their gamertags unless given specific permission several times to remember i can
I ease into a friendship by wanting to know who someone prefers to be seen as and addressing them as such
This made me remember that one time I was checking an artist's page to see information about commisions. The page has/had his irl name on it (requirements of the site I'm guessing), and for whatever reason at the moment I thought "I feel like I shouldn't know this".
In school or military camp, hearing your full legal name shouted is terrifing

I have resorted to using my fursona name as the name on most of my accounts due to some of these issues because this is a legitimate problem in the fandom. thanks for this video, this problem really needs more attention drawn to it 😁
I totally agree with this video (Except that one time I almost told my mom to call me by my user name because I got too used to it... it was embarrasing)
My friend calls me by my fursona name every so often but it’s usually either a joke or bc he gets confused lol
XD Awesome video, very on point and i had a great laugh too lol. Gonna be sharing this 👍
If i know you at a convetion the best way to get my attention is calling me my first name
As long as you’re a furry you can usually call them cute
I remember for the longest time I had non furry friends, and they were the majority of my friends. That's actually how I came to care less about people knowing I'm a furry, that aside, I've always preferred being called by my real name. When I first hung out with a decent group of furries (more than 2) for the first time, they called me Avery, my fursona name. It feels strange whenever that happens still. It's probably similar to the feeling you get, but for me it's just reversed.
I've always gone by my irl human nickname in the fandom, but it was *wild* to be referred to my fursona's name during AC when I premiered his fursuit. Especially by people who I've known online since 2020. So I'm probably the outlier here, but it's pretty cool to see how people feel about this!
First name: Beta
Middle name: Eta
Last name: Delota
YEA. It would be awkward for someone to know me by my artist name/username, or just my fursona I have visible- And be like "Yo Jasper"
It just seems... More intimate? Than an acquaintance should have automatically??
Actually my nick is so similar to my name that I don't mind hearing Gabe (or any funny short for Gabriel) instead of Gambry. But I don't really like when pp call me by my OCs names (expect for one guy who still call me by name of my first oc, even if he speaks to his mom). Mostly bc most of my furry OCs are just anthro versions of my WarriorCats OC, and their full names don't sound that well in my native as in english. For example my furrsona's name is Patchfox whit is short to say and sounds like one word, but if I wanna say it in polish it automaticly is forced to be two separate words, Łaciaty Lis, where first word is adjective and second is noun whit sounds and looks much full name
Great points!
That shirt is adorable
Lucy you got some spaning to do... :)
The comment I hear in my head when I use my friends furry name at work..
Never call a Furry.
I prefer texting
If someone uses my "legal" name, well no worries, but I do use my furry name mostly. So Kat, short for Kataugh, and comfortably recognized as Kat, or cat for pickup, restraints etc. I suppose it is not unusual. Hell, twenty years in the military and mostly we called our friends and coworkers by last name or preceded by rank is one is being more formal. Using my furry name is a bit confusing for old people. I know because at 71 years, lots of friends are old people. :)
PS, great vid as usual.
Love your classic Fursona I'm sure I said you're an Awesome Furry known to me in my heart with love as I got a hug with you at TTFC (Tails and Tornadoes furry con in 2021) in Sept. on a Sunday as Maverick the wolf Dragon that was a kick ass name for your costume and hybrid Wolf and Dragon animal just curious where did you come up with that name for your first fursona ? ❤❤❤🧡🧡🧡💛💛💛💚💚💚💙💙💙💜💜💜🐉🐉🐉🐉
BOOPS 4 EVERYONE IN COMMENTS!!! :3
that shirt is awesome, where can you get one?
The shirt is adorable!
I personally don't mind being called by my real name.
I do know a couple people who prefer their sona name and apart from a few jokes among friends here and there that is what I refer to them as.
It sometimes gets awkward, like when you meet irl and introduce your friend as "Void" and then instantly realize what you just said.
Maverick is back!
One of my online friends is exclusively known as his fursona and he accidentally gave me his non furry vr account name a few months ago and he still doesn’t know I know his real name bc I would never call a furry by their real name
well it seems that my extremely bad memory with names is a good thing now... i mean like during when i was at school i didnt even remember my classmates/teachers names for a whole year maybe 2 years... and after like 3 to 4 years later i cant even remember their names now.
Yep, I've been using my furry name exclusively since 1996, aside from with family and co-workers. The only place online I don't have my furry name is on UA-cam of all places. I have to get a UA-cam account with my furry name. I can't stand my non-furry name.
Thanks for a great video!
Okay, this was what finally made me change my UA-cam account to my furry name! I just did it!
I know most people pick names that look like usernames, Mine looks like a first name and last, just it is not my real name.
When I’m afk on a group vc with my furry friends, they’ll call me by my real name to catch my attention and I ignore the name nova lol
I never noticed that body pillow in the back, how long has that been there?
Honestly, I would prefer it if they did since I don’t think I could get used to getting called spepper and the only username I would get known for is either my name or “notafurry” because I was a die hard anti-furry 13 year old when I made half my usernames and never bothered to change it
also probably ties into people wanting to remain relatively anonymous creating separation between their furry life and their private life to avoid any confections between the two which is understandable considering the hate being called their real name would feel invasive like doxing or outing them
Yeah my ex would definitely just say my name online when talking to a complete stranger furry and I’d get mad, I mean that was a small reason why I broke up with him but yeah it makes me angry mostly because that name is dead to me :3
Ok, but where's that shirt from? 👀
Especiaily when they guess your real name and then get it right It always bothers me
I adore my first name and I usually don't care if people call me by it. But it still very much depends on the context. If the person has reason to know my name, it's great. If the person has no reason to know my name, ehhhhh.
I actually don't respond to my first/last name when im a "Character" of any kind. Unless I'm not in "Character" or its an Emergency.
Thinking about it, I don't know if anyone has ever reffered to me as Strawberry. But yeah respect people's boundaries!
That is Very True
one time, someone who commissioned me asked if they could call me by my legal first name. "i sent the money, can i call you [x]?" not only am i a furry, so like... no? but i'm trans and that's my deadname. no one can call me that. wtf?
i dont really mind, like irl no one calls me funky.
online, furry. yeah, thats one name.
legal name, thats another.
but like, my character name is more unique so its somewhat more personal.
got one friend irl who's first meeting was through another friend via online game. so, by default thats the one they use to refer to me irl.
sometimes it can come down to first impressions, the name you first associate with the given person.
but in either case, it can seem odd or out of place when you are in a different environment to the one you usually hear it.
but like, online, someone uses your legal name and some times it just doesnt register that they are talking to you. idk how the brain works. but both names register just fine irl. /thought
Meanwhile, my unoriginal ass with my real name as my furry name. 💀 My online name besides my real one has always been ThePsychicClarinetist though, so I'd answer to anything that resembles a name/nickname for me, LOL. 🤷🏽♀️ May change my furry/fursona name someday, my real name is just what I'm used to currently because I'm bad at naming. I hope others know that the same approach doesn't apply to every furry. I know you've gone over this a few times in previous videos, but it's a good thing you made it into its own video, Beta!
I’m planning on making a new fursona. It’s gonna be hard for my friends to adapt to the new name😅
wait wth why do i have the same office chair-
But what if your dyslexic and can't read the bage/name tag
Unless They Want You To Call Them By There Actual Name Then You Can But When You Just Call Them By There Actual Name They May or Might Get Ticked Off or Just Be Unconfortible For That Matter.
Okay I didn't know and now I hope I don't forget it
For me its the complete opposite, I'd completely flip if someone calls me by my fursona names being Mint or Delta. I'd rather go by my online nicknames (Jinx, Ak, Iso) or if I know you enough and have a good relationship with you, by my first name.
I have a question what of my fursona is base of myself?
This has happens to me I have three names my real name Cory and Gabe and in my Yt bio I have Gabe listed but Gabe is for in person because I’m way sifting in irl compared to online and someone reconsider my username in vrchat which sated Cory and they called me Gabe instead and I was just pissed off by it
100%, I will only acknowledge if my close friends if they call me by my hoomun name if you or someone find outs my true name I won’t bother or give you the look
I got here I don't know how... but what is Furry?
In college I learned English
but in college they don't teach American and English slang...
could someone explain to me? I know what furry is...
but not the slang
Bruh I just go by my initials everywhere.
With all the respect and love in the world I’d never refer to you as Mr. Delota in a New York ish accent. Hopefully someone you know well and a good friend, does exactly that with straight faced conviction. Then you both just run with it in a vary public setting because you could. As usual it’s probably just me and my lack of sanity. And thus may even make this post weirder then usual, but I always think you have to have fun in life. Lastly it helps me laugh, and that’s never a bad thing. For what sense that may or may not make.
this will be the biggest issue for me, my brain is like on monkey level type of stuff
my furry name is my real name so ive never really minded it, but my bf lives with me and i have to use his real name when im around family and it feels sooooooo weird XD
I have nicknames for all my irl friends (all non furries) i dont think ive called any of them by their real names in years
I pick my own name for them and am like "nope! Thats your name now, i have decided"
So funny thing is my fursona name is my first name but it wasn't always. Basically I named my sona Rika first and then I found out I was trans and really liked that name so I stole it from my sona and now we share a name.
Fascinating
while listening to all of this i was fr just watching your fursona plushie on that bed
i love it
i want to squish it
That's why my fursona name is also my real name 😅
My parents use a blend of my birth name and stinky horse XD
They are really chill and supportive 😊
I'm gonna say this can be just as weird when your friends have internet handles and someone or they themselves says their real nane. The only time it isn't weird is when they're handle is their own irl name
I always thought beta's full nickname was EtaBetaDelota
me and my boyfriend call each other by our fursonas name all the time
The name you choose for yourself is "Your name" the name you were assigned is a name someone else gave you. Which takes precedence? For me it's my chosen name in all cases. Eventually I'll even get a legal name change so using my assigned name will eventually be dead naming me.
I’m still a little confused about this. I’ve been in the fandom for 6 years, but I’ve had limited interactions with irl furries, so I’m still not used to some of the social conventions. To me, it makes the most sense to refer to a furry by their real name because they usually have multiple characters. The only constant is the person representing those characters. When I walk up to someone that doesn’t know me personally but that I’ve heard of, I might say “Hi, is this Mrs, Laurence? Nice to meet you, I’m John”. Why is this seen as offensive in the furry fandom?
My friend calls me by my fursona name on his streams, but when we meet irl he calls by my name. I like it. Somtimes he calls me by my fursona as a nickname
Lmao x3 yes pls not my real name 😂 hope you have a good day beta good luck to anybody else reading this and may you all find peace in your domains :3
My characters name is Ashe, and my real name is Ashley.
But I also go as random, furry, faceless, etc etc.
Can you say, "Lois, Brian!"
Honestly I would be more upset and freaked out if my parents or my coworker called me by my fursona name. Since I'm not "out" as a furry to them.
All depends on the person I suppose! I've never really had a furry nickname. I don't want to be called my social media username or my fursona's name - I'm just Mary Rose! :)
This seems both confusing and annoying. So basically they just LARP?
I love your shirt
Been going with my sona name for over a decade never call me a irl name god
Huh, I wouldn't mind much being called by my first name. I don't really have a fursona though so maybe that's why
