The sad thing is that kids don't need "go-go juice". They have energy to run and jump and play. But the fact that she needed it shows how poor and nutrition deprived her diet was, and that she was so sluggish and fatigued is terrible for anyone but ESPECIALLY a child. Really sad, as I think we all know now.
What’s better than caffeine is music. If you had kids who always jumps, runs and plays when it’s daytime. Play some clean pop music or children’s music to help them get up and move around. Which is good exercise. Never feed them caffeine! Feed them with music.

How Alana still has teeth shocks me, there’s actually a condition called Mountain Dew Mouth that a lot of poor kids have sadly here in Appalachia where they’re missing half their teeth from drinking Mountain Dew
@@Silver_wind_1987_ My younger daughter actually performed a science experiment for her class showing how much damage soda can do to your teeth when she was in elementary school! She used eggshells that were soaked in Coke, Diet Coke, ginger ale, and water to mimic the effects of soda on teeth (I know, eggshells aren’t teeth, but they were a reasonable substitute and easily obtained!), and the results were quite clear! We didn’t think to soak any in Mountain Dew or energy drinks, but it’s easy to see how she could revamp and expand on this for her classmates now-she’s in high school now, and so many of her classmates practically mainline this crap on top of vaping like there’s no tomorrow. Frankly, they need a serious wake-up call!
@@dragondancer1814 I like gingerale but that's basically it. I like ice tea...as a treat once in a while. Coke can clean rust off metal....its insane. And that sounds awesome.
I think it's because she still had access to running water. In Appalachia Mountain Dew is cheaper and safer than water and they're forced to rely on it.
@@Silver_wind_1987_ Coke is also used to clean crud off of car battery leads too. And yeah, I encouraged that project-in fact, hearing about the car-battery trick and how bad soda is for our health got her wondering what it does to our teeth too. I have to tell her about “Mountain Dew Mouth” for that very reason.
It gets worse. Mama June lost custody of Alana due to her substance abuse and "taste in men", so now her sister Anna(?) has custody of her. She's also dating a 20 year old, at 16. Poor girl didn't have any good role models in her life. She has her sisters, but they're not much older than her and frankly Alana needs someone she can consider a parent.
"There's a lot of closed minded people bashing this show because they don't agree with the lifestyle" The close minded people: _concerned for the well being of the small child_
I think it should be illegal to put children on any kind of reality show. They can't properly consent to that invasion of privacy, and growing up is already hard enough as it is.
Does anyone know if children on reality shows have financial protection like child actors are supposed to? Child actors are supposed to have their earnings put into a trust that they can access when they turn eighteen; this is to prevent their parents/guardians from taking all their earnings and leaving them with nothing. Sadly it doesn’t always stop their money from being stolen, but it’s meant to provide protection. I wonder if reality show children have that too or if the producers think different rules apply to them.
It should also be mentioned that during the height of June’s addiction, Alana’s sister Pumpkin/Lauren had to get emergency custody of her. She’s only five years older than Alana but now has to take on the role of her mother while she already has a young daughter. And even though June is “sober” Pumpkin still has to be the head of the family and have everyone relay on her and she’s admitted it’s a lot for her to handle.
@@sarahamira5732 No, even at 16, a child is old enough to handle certain responsibility like helping around the house and getting a job. I know it’s hard to believe, but TLC USED to have educational programing. This was a long long time ago though. Back before sensational programming took priority. It makes me sad since educational shows can actually be really interesting; you just have to use a good premise.
The fat shaming and general hatred for Alana was shocking. People were flat out calling her ugly. How can you look at a sweet little kid and call her ugly? I also think June failed Alana when they appeared on an episode of Doctors, just to discuss Alana's weight. Imagine having your weight broadcast to the whole world like that. She never stood a chance.
@Jamal Ramadan Well you were probably closer in age when you treated your brother that way. June is an adult. She should know better. We’ve all treated our siblings shitty at a young age, don’t worry.
@Jamal Ramadan Kids do that to their siblings, it sucks but it's understandable for a child/teenager. You don't yet get how your actions affect others, and how small remarks can build up to insecurities. But grown ups putting their kids in pageants and national TV shows about obesity are doing lasting and public harm. I also blame the doctors on the show for not understanding what this could do to Alana's self esteem.
Your videos are so comfortable to watch. They feel like hanging out with that friend who's very passionate when it comes to criticizing things they don't agree on, and always in good humor.
A long time ago, back when reality shows hit it's peak, someone told me that the reason they were so popular is because Americans love watching disaster families or people who are worst-off than they are so they can feel good and not feel guilty over their own faults. At the time, I didn't understand what that meant but after watching this video and seeing the drama around the movie Turning Red, something in my mind clicked. People, or rather adults, are so stressed out and repressed that they don't want to hear criticism on their lives so the media grabs the worst kind of people and put them on the TV so audiences can say to themselves: "At least I'm not like these losers." If they are faced with criticism, they lash out.
That's how reality shows have always been. Hells kitchen for example doesn't focus on the culinary aspect, it focuses on Gordon freaking out on people for their mistakes, shows like biggest loser mainly focus on the fat people throwing a tantrum or breaking down into a crying fit when trying to lose weight, nobody is really concerned about the actual progress of them going from fat to thin. People have always liked to laugh at others misery
Interviews with cast members on shows like Jersey Shore show that producers purposefully push people to extremes for camera fodder. The Jersey Shore cast members were stuck in a house where no outside communication was allowed, and there was, quite literally, *nothing* to do in the house but drink the copious liquor that was supplied and encouraged. They wouldn't get any contact with the outside world until they were unleashed to public venues, where fans would do cooky shit and further stress them out. Having a team of people film and edit your entire life to make it watchable by millions of people *fucks* with you. It's like you're constantly in fight or flight mode, because you never know when it's all going to spin out of control and ruin your life.
Continuing this, with game shows that require puzzle solving skills or strength to get to the end, you can be turned away for being too good because it wouldn't be entertaining. People love watching people fail
That’s how reality tv has always been. And tbh it’s not just Americans who watch reality tv for this reason. Humans, regardless of culture love drama. Psychologists did studies on various social media sites and found that humans are naturally drawn to negative content because psychologically it makes us feel a certain way, so we go out of our way to see more negative content even though by doing so me just make ourselves more sad or even enraged. It’s pretty interesting.

The part about Honey Boo Boo making friends later in life reminded me of a lesson from King of the Hill, a show of great substance and quality by contrast. I really feel bad for Alana. I can't imagine how bad it feels to see stuff like an entire South Park episode and even movies referencing her making fun of her. She's funny and charming and talented and deserves to get attention and fame but I just wish she hadn't gotten it through the avenues she had to and at such a young age. TLC was in its earliest days known at "The Learning Channel" and was truly educational. Even endorsed by NASA. I remember seeing commercials for this show when I was 11, and it infuriated me to no end every time. The personality of everyone and how loud they are, but now as an adult it is sad seeing how the kids had to grow up in this situation.
My only real experience with the show is from that one South Park episode, “Raising the Bar;” and while the skits were hilarious, this video really does make me realize that it’s easy to forget how much negative influence stems from the parent, and how much stems from the executives behind the camera.
I remember having this show having a strange grip on me when I watched it when I was younger. I didn't know how to feel about it yet I kept watching it on youtube for some reason. Same with a lot of tlc content, unfortunately.
Years ago I actually saw someone try to excuse the show by claiming, “You can tell that they love each other.” That was not love. Exploiting your children and making them a laughingstock is not love. Buying fancy clothes for strangers to ogle instead of proper food and nutrition is not love. I wonder what that person feels now.
1. If Georgians were smart they'd group up, get their guns and protest the making of that show, because nobody should ever see that. 2. Any one who firmly believes a tv show can accurately represent a community is quite naive. It can represent some people, But not all. Due to society being made by individuals.
I wish that was the case in Canada. My middle and high school classmates would often buy packs of energy drinks at lunch, multiple times a week… surprised they’re all still alive.
Not to mention how I feel like the show contributed to her mom’s dealings with drugs and becoming less involved with her family, and even so far as Honey BooBoo dating an adult as a minor. Their show played up their lives for the drama, and I feel like there’s a possibility that that mentality got stuck with them somehow.
You gotta love the advocates for this show, it is clearly a case of child neglect and bad family customs, and instead of being portrayed as what it is, a sad case from a southern family who are vulnerable to all kinds of ailments, both physical, and mental due to their lack of knowledge, yet they sell it as some sort of funny skit. Keep in mind this is a well renowed TV channel that mocked them and submitted them to public shaming for their expected behaviours, truly disgusting.

Now it's stuff like this as well as teen pregnancy shows, kiddy pageants, and unstable relationships as well as broken marriages The fact that an educational channel had subjected itself to showcasing absolute filth just says quite a lot these days, also, no child should've gone through what this one did, and this whole thing in its entirety is both a tragedy and a monument of how far networks will go to get RaTiNgS, even if it means literal exploitation Also, on a side note, the reality television genre was a mistake

I'll be honest that it's shows like this that basically caused me to have a major preference towards animation for the longest time. It took until _2021_ (about a decade) for me to get into some sort of live-action shows again, and even then I mainly just watch tokusatsu shows (Super Sentai specifically) as far as that goes.
I'm the same way, as I mostly watch cartoons and anime. For the most part, the only fiction based live action show I keep up with is Power Rangers. Aside from that, I'll sometimes watch some documentaries.
I relate to this so hard, like I'll be in my 50s and would still rather watch spongebob or some other cartoon instead of reality TV shows cause they're cancer.
UGH...the first time I changed channels randomly and saw "Toddlers in Tiaras" on the screen I was like "What is this, the Pedophile Channel?". TLC USED to be "The Learning Channel". Not its just junk. Actually, it is worse than junk. I would throw a party if TLC just stopped existing.
the only memories i have of this show is some vague fuzzy flashbacks of comedy channels making horrible copies mocking it and i still don't know if they were worse than the show--
We actually have a similar game in my family of Doorknob but instead of farting, we only do it if you frequently quote over a movie and we all get annoyed. You get tackled and held down until you can touch a doorknob or call uncle. And calling uncle means you’re the Fetch Monkey for anything everyone wants until the movie is over or we go to bed.
When this show first aired, I put it in the same category as Jersey Shore; a pestilence of our time and a sign of humanity's decline I've long since softened that position; I still think of Jersey Shore as a stupid show, but a harmless one overall. And honestly I've come to understand at least some of its appeal. So I thought "maybe I was too hard on Honey Boo Boo as well" But watching this video? OH. MY. GOD. I might have been right the first time.
I heard about it first via South Park and was immediatly disgusted this was a true thing. I just can't think of what to say about the hatred/anger I felt this was real.
It's funny how many of the same problems with these reality shows can be applied to family vlog channels, you can almost 1:1 compare the two formats to one another.
The only reason the world didn't just straight up explode in 2012 is because the evil of honey boo boo was balanced out the holiness of port of morrow.

It gets worse. Mama June lost custody of Alana due to her substance abuse and "taste in men", so now her sister Anna(?) has custody of her. She's also dating a 20 year old, at 16. I think it should be illegal to put children on any kind of reality show. They can't properly consent to that invasion of privacy, and growing up is already hard enough as it is.
100% always thought that and surprised it's never brought up
Does anyone know if children on reality shows have financial protection like child actors are supposed to? Child actors are supposed to have their earnings put into a trust that they can access when they turn eighteen; this is to prevent their parents/guardians from taking all their earnings and leaving them with nothing. Sadly it doesn’t always stop their money from being stolen, but it’s meant to provide protection. I wonder if reality show children have that too or if the producers think different rules apply to them.
True, but only if the child doesn’t agree to do it
@@karaoconnoraliasraidra in most US states, no.

People, or rather adults, are so stressed out and repressed that they don't want to hear criticism on their lives so the media grabs the worst kind of people and put them on the TV so audiences can say to themselves: "At least I'm not like these losers."
If they are faced with criticism, they lash out.

I can’t tell if I got this in my reccomended because I watch analytical videos about celebrity tragedies or the lego star wars gameplay going on in the background because i’ve been watching vods of the game here
These people thought reality TV is unscripted??? How naïve are these people?
Not to Hot was a guilty pleasure for my mom and I. It was kind of like a morbid curiosity for us and we couldn't believe how much June's show and life twisted and how horribly she treated her family, especially Alana.
Remember when The Learning Channel was actually about learning stuff and the Magic School Bus? Yeah..................
Now it's stuff like this as well as teen pregnancy shows, kiddy pageants, and unstable relationships as well as broken marriages
The fact that an educational channel had subjected itself to showcasing absolute filth just says quite a lot these days, also, no child should've gone through what this one did, and this whole thing in its entirety is both a tragedy and a monument of how far networks will go to get RaTiNgS, even if it means literal exploitation
Also, on a side note, the reality television genre was a mistake
I rember when the history channel had hisrory on it
Yep, used to get off the bus and watch both. History Channel even had a documentary I referenced in a school paper.
Now?...I think we're suffering from 'old'
"I'm 6 and I've already had 3 heart attacks!"
My mom used to watch _Toddlers & Tiaras_ until I pointed out how objectifying, exploitative, controversial, and just plain stupid it was. She stopped watching it. To this day she still can't believe that she actually watched and enjoyed it.
3:16 excuse me is that a child dressed in a festival top and mini-skirt? What in hell? How is this legal?
I mean, there aren't really any laws as to what children are allowed to wear. While I agree that this is beyond weird if laws agains underage people wearing certain things were established there would be outrage.
That's pagentry for ya.
@@justafurrywithinternet317 yep, your username makes sense now. let there be outrage, there's no excuse for this.
@@LaverniusTucker2410 Please elaborate.
@@LaverniusTucker2410 How is my username relevant?
This show was awful, my mum used to watch awful shows like this and teen mom but she couldnt stomach this show
I'll be honest that it's shows like this that basically caused me to have a major preference towards animation for the longest time.
When this show first aired, I put it in the same category as Jersey Shore; a pestilence of our time and a sign of humanity's decline
I've long since softened that position; I still think of Jersey Shore as a stupid show, but a harmless one overall. And honestly I've come to understand at least some of its appeal.
So I thought "maybe I was too hard on Honey Boo Boo as well"
But watching this video? OH. MY. GOD. I might have been right the first time.
As a Jersian I was so embarressed about Jersey Shore. I was so afraid people would think this is how Jersey really is. Spoiler...it is NOT!!!
My mom & I used to love this show. I was a kid (this is important) but now we find this show absolutely stupid.
Well, I'm glad you at least have good hygiene. 😏
@@boomerangmonkey8263 well, I mean we live in the South. But we didn't act utterly ridiculous
@@boomerangmonkey8263 I actually saw I guess a spin off of this show. It was the same but different. It just as stupid as the original
@@erinthedemonhog2090 Sounds about right.
There was a girl in my 4th and 5th grade class who called literally everyone including me Honey Boo Boo as some kind of name like "honey" or "sweetie." It always confused me why she chose THAT name of all names. She could've called me cracker and I would've been like "yeah alright" lmao
edit: just thought of something. Savantics has been saying TLC really needs to change their name, I have a name idea: Trash Life Channel instead of The Learning Channel.
How the hell does TLC deserve the title of The Learning Channel?
Having been born and raised in Georgia, a family and lifestyle like this is common. Me and my family religiously watched the show and my aunt and step uncle visited their house once (after they had already moved out of it). It’s interesting to hear other people’s point of views of this.
The worst part about being "the star" of having your own reality tv show is your own lifestyle being shown to alot of people for entertainment
my sibling told me about a show they watched an episode of a long time ago. about these kids on nickelodeon (i think) that were shoved into a deserted town and forced to live on their own. one kid ended up drinking bleach because an adult put bleach in a pop bottle, they weren’t give almost any food, and a bunch of other things happened
There's media, then there's corporate media. Remember, profit, not quality is the creed corporate media follows now. They will sacrifice principles, and people if they can get away with. Children are sacrificed on the alter of the god Entertainment, like some modern day Moloch...and yes, TLC seems to have all the worst shows I've seen. This show is arguably The Worst, but my runner-up of for the title of Worst Show Ever and a distant second mind you, is 90 Days to Wed. That was the show that made me give up on so called Reality television. At this point I just want to see how low you can go legally 😮💨. It seems to be seemingly terrible people preying on each other cash, infamy or a green card.
Corporate Media has always been like this, but we’re just more aware of it nowadays.
The fact that this was ever a thing completely justifies my transition into the Joker
Why so serious?
I completely forgot about this show and am just now realizing how gross it is as I have a better understanding of the world now. How was this okay???
Fun fact: Honey boo boo and Mama June appeared in masked singer S6 as Beach ball in 2021 and their performance is............ let’s just say screaming brat mouses
8:30 oh I thought you started to talk about the Kardashians for a second lol
I'll give the show this: the idea of beating up someone who farts until they reach a checkpoint sounds like an amazing idea
The only TV show I've ever seen them in is Masked Singer. They were the weird beachball and season 6 I think. They were literally kicked off the same episodes they were introduced because they were so bad
And it’s based on a South Korean reality tv show.
They were the worst. Though I was surprised how good Alana looked.
5:35 imagine having a superiority complex because you watching Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Dude thinks that reality shows aren’t scripted
My mom sadly and annoyingly watches Mama June From Not to Hot and I try to tune it out. But the humorous thing I heard (and I hear from all these other reality tv shows) are them complaining about not wanting everyone to know their business...when they're making their business public by being on a reality tv show.
This was a great retrospective about the show, I even learned some things like June's new show. There isn't enough sarcasm to express my distaste with the whole concept. I used to be a fan of the Honey Boo Boo show until learning about June linking up with her daughter's abuser. It was such a guilty pleasure watching this country white family from my state cutting up and sliding on a buttered up kitchen floor. Of course there was plenty negative about it from the exploitation to the stereotypes, but it was also so addictively hilarious every episode and I think that's such a dangerous combination for television
whenever you upload i feel like an old friend came back to visit me and it's always on a day where i need it
