This will definitely be epic. From what I understand there were a lot of practical sets/effects used, so it really looks amazing.

You should read the book and then see the play. You need to understand.
This is the PREQUEL to ‘The Wizard of Oz..’ how the Wicked Witch becomes wicked.
And the Good Witch (originally ‘Galinda’, later she becomes ‘Glinda’.)
becomes kind and good.
I wouldnt say reading the book is essential. yes, the play is inspired by the book. but it is a very loose adaptation. the book is very different
