The devs have stated multiple times It's an Action RPG that wants to Target ALL Audiences, casual and hardcore. That is why when you die, it's very forgiving and you only lose small amounts of EXP. That is why you gain another health bar when you transform, it's the same reason why magic is so strong. It's to cater to everyone. Despite only having One difficulty level, it's there to help players who are not used to action games get hits on the boss, learn, and have fun without feeling that it's hopeless. For hardcore players who crave a challenge, if you can beat the boss quick, they might have a secret phase 2 that is even harder so you are able to get that challenge or secret bosses that are much harder but in the same zone accessible through secrets. A casual player can ignore them til they get stronger but a hardcore player can tackle these bosses earlier. The method of story telling is also closer to God of War. With Cutscenes and focusing on dialogue, emotions, relationships between characters that might have nothing to do with combat.

This preview mainly shows the transformation system and alchemy system. There are two types of transformation system one is to kill the boos and get a weapon to use the transformation for 90 seconds. The other is to kill the boos and use the gourd to collect souls to get a skill mode transformation Skill mo shi transformation has only one move and can be integrated into a combo After using it, it will immediately change back to the original form Alchemy system Players can collect herbs to make pills with different attributes

This is going to be GOTY 2024 and may inspire more Chinese developers to bring more Chinese mythology to the world of gaming. And that Buddhist hymn "南無阿彌陀佛" or Namo Amitabha is fire! I feel this developer is really paying attention to details while trying to stay true to the story & cultural aspects for the game. Fun facts: Game Science chose to release on August 20th because it's said to be the birthday of Sun Wukong. The dope buddhist rap/music is actually adapted from "往生咒" or Wangsheng Mantra or Pure Land Rebirth Dharani which is a real Buddhist mantra for releasing souls from purgatory to western paradise. There were 72 changes/transformations "in Journey to the West," or better refers to as 72 spells. The 43rd spell is called transformation, which can transform into anything. All transformations in the game therefore should belong to the 43rd spell. The story of the game seems to happen sometimes after the end of "Journey To The West" story, where the power of Buddha and the other gods are gone, instead the Yaoguai and monsters are taking over the world. So we as players, are not playing as Sun Wukong the monkey king, but as the "天命人" (the English name maybe "Man of Destiny," notice at the end of the final trailer, it writes "confront destiny on Aug 20,2024"). This "Man of Destiny" will be another monkey king trying to bring order and justice back to the world by re-walking the path that Sun Wukong has taken. But there are also other theories going around, so we will find out soon.
