  • Knowing I had a long day ahead of me, I woke up early and left Burton Freshwater. Leaving the campsite I climbed up Burton Cliff and along a flat cliff top path onto Burton Beach which was empty apart from a couple of fishermen. I climbed gently out of Burton Beach and on towards Cogden Beach. The path at Cogden is along the pebble beach and is tough walking as the ground shifts under your feet. As I approached West Bexington I was hopeful that would be the end of the pebbles, sadly after passing though the carpark I was met by another stretch along more pebble. Thankfully this did not last for long and I soon was walking parallel to the beach along Burton Road. After my legs had recovered from the strange sensation that the several miles of pebble walking had given them, I was able to set a good pace and cover some distance along Burton Road onto Chesil Beach, where you can find toilets and a cafe.. I walked a short section of Chesil Beach, yes more pebbles, before turning inland. Chesil Beach runs all the way to Portland but as it is a nature reserve and a SSSI the path leads instead inland to Abbotsbury. After Abbotsbury I passed the Swannery before climbing Linton Hill which provided great views back toward St Catherine's Chapel and down to Chesil Beach. The path at this point feels like a long way inland, but I soon made the turn south though a valley which lead me to Fleet Lagoon. I followed the edge of the lagoon for the next few miles until reaching Ferry Bridge and the end of my days walk.

That beach was awful to walk on. Thanks for reminding me! Nice few videos again. Look forward to your next installment.👍

It seemed never ending with hardly a soul around. My legs felt strange by the time I started walking on firmer ground again.

That godforsaken beach. The cafe was closed at the car park when I was there. I wanted to cry

I didn’t stop at the cafe at West Bexington, I was then 40 mins too early for the cafe at Chesil. I actually ran out of water towards the end, I found this section to be quite remote in terms of places to fill up water etc.

Nice one Paul! I've walked some of the Ridgeway but most of that coastal path is new to me.... it looks good but yeah, those pebbles are like walking through water, minus the wet, gets hard going.

Some lovely views from the Ridgeway Jon. It will be a long time before I forget the miles over those pebbles 🤣

Really getting towards the end now Paul. I seew you're over the 1K subs - very deserved. Excellent video yet again - you've built up a great resource for those of us due to follow. (Probably starting in September. ATB, Roger & Linda

Thanks both. September is a good month for the path. Still warm, hopefully, without being too hot. Look forward to watching how you get on with it.

Ah the dreaded pebbles, like Portland & Porlock - sent to test our calf muscles.

Ah yes I remember the pebbles at Porlock causing me to stumble several times.

Hi Rob. Yes I am aware of some of the hills as I walked the Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike last year from Weymouth to Corfe. It’s a stunning section, so I’m looking forward to walking it again.

You have the knowledge of each step I am taking having done it yourself. I always say “we” on the videos as I do feel like I have walked it with everyone who watches.

That looked tough! Seemingly no alternative route!?! Out of interest, what time did you reach Ferry bridge? I work it out as roughly 20 minutes a mile, without rest breaks. 5hrs 40…..sorry, totally geeky 🤦‍♀️

The beach was a bit tiring but not as tough as some of the cliffs in other parts of the path. I can’t remember the exact time. My train was 17.50 and I got to the station with plenty of time. I would guess I got to Ferry Bridge about 15.30. I was walking for around 8.5 hrs including breaks and filming etc. if you have a lighter pack than I did you will prob walk it much quicker.
