One of the great things about the sim dial is that you can set some baseline mods to clarity and tone and WB and grain etc and then cycle through each recipe while carrying the foundation along. It's very versatile. The people complaining have legitimate concerns sometimes but they don't understand that this camera isn't catering to them.

For street photos, use a cheap manual focus small lens like a 25mm f2, set it on F8, hyperfocal zone focus and go nuts shooting all day.

    • @kevinl.3826
      @kevinl.3826 3 місяці тому

@@YouSnoozeYouNooze That’s absolutely not how it works. Zone focusing is mainly a daytime street photography technique (in my opinion, the only street photography technique because even Sony's AF isn't good enough to rely on streets). On digital cameras, it's easy-just set the aperture to F8, the shutter speed to 1/500, and let the camera automatically handle the ISO. It’s fast, efficient, and works beautifully for capturing street scenes.
On film cameras, though, it’s a bit trickier since ISO is fixed once you load the film. For example, with Kentmere, you're stuck at ISO 400 unless you push it to 800 or 1600, and that setting applies to the entire 36-exposure roll. If you check out Paulie B's channel, you'll notice that many film street photographers constantly adjust their shutter speed and aperture when moving between light and shadow. However, none of them would drop the shutter speed below 1/250 or use an aperture below F5.6, as that wouldn’t be fast enough for shooting on the move or would result in too shallow a depth of field, requiring more precise distance judgment.

Um, that's the whole point of hyperfocal zone focusing. You don't need to focus.
Besides, focus peaking, heard of it? Works just fine on an LCD display, especially using one-button magnification punch-in.

I'm amazed, I expected much lower specs. It's not targeted at me, I'm 63, I like a viewfinder for obvious reasons, and ibis is always helpful. However 20 years ago before I needed reading glasses everywhere, I would have been interested, with my f2 and f2.8 lenses. Seems to target the same market as the s9, but with apsc and a wider range of small lenses. Interesting decision by fuji to go that way... I will stick with the chunkier xt5, xt50, and xs10.

10:22 consider the Voigtländer 18mm f2.8 and 27mm f2 pancake lenses. They are manual, but built so well, that they are a joy to use and actually focus to infinity. At 18 f2.8 you get a new pancake focal length that barely ever has not enough depth of field to miss focus, and you can always stop down.

Isn't the stabilisation too bad for videos? Especially content creators who like to vlog will suffer from too much shakiness I fear. But you tell me if it can beat smartphones or action cams in stabilisation.
I mean the tech is out there and could be used especially if it downscales 6k to 4k it should have enough playground plus gyro data to stabilise directly in camera as improved EIS.
The only reason they are not doing it in camera is the processing power not powerful enough. I wonder when this will change.
For photos I think that might be quite good. Though I like the manual control on my X-S10 a bit more.

This, coupled with an inexpensive normal lens, would make a great evidence camera. It's compact size makes it ideal for stuffing into a duty bag, it takes nice images, you can add a hot shoe flash or connect it to a more extensive external flash system, and you can put it on a tripod/monopod. Additionally, if you need to video record a crime scene, you've got excellent video possibilities in the palm of your hand. And one more thing, you can keep it charged in your vehicle between uses by just plugging it into a USB outlet.

It looks like a fantastic option for a full-frame 6K 10-bit pocket hybrid camera, perfect for B-roll while hiking. I might pair it with a Ronin gimbal. While the iPhone 15 Pro Max is an amazing camera for a smartphone-especially when used with the Blackmagic Camera app (which, by the way, is free and incredible)-I’m looking to transition to something more specialized.
I need a compact and affordable secondary camera to complement the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It also looks like a good solution for a teleprompter camera and would likely excel as an interview camera when paired with a tripod. I’m particularly impressed by the F-Log feature for color grading in DaVinci Resolve. Overall, this feels like a great interim solution until I can afford or justify investing in the Ronin 4D. Great review!

Do you own xt30 or xt50? Would love to see a physical comparison between these cameras.

I’m with you on the pancake lens cravings. I’d love a wider one… I’ve got the 16 2.8, but I’d love something that’s a bit flatter.

No IBIS, hmmm… but no viewfinder, that’s a no go for me, unfortunately. Looking promising on the autofocus front, though.
Love your style, thank you for the great video!

Do you have a review, comparing xt30ii and xm5? Which one to buy for 2025??

Great review. How would this be for 4k green screen shooting? It's got the 10 4:2:2 which I'm told is important. Would the Sony ZV E1 or FX30 be much better, if at all?

Been watching your videos on Fuji cameras for a long time. I am a beginner and looking to get a Fuji camera and pair with a compact lens. Would you recommend x-m5, x-t30 or x-t30ii. Also what lens would you recommend.

It looks really cool, I'm really hoping for an X-E5 or even an X-Pro 4, I love Fuji's rangefinder cameras and maybe someday I'll get my x100VI from Adorama I think I ordered it last April! The AF looked fine, it would be perfect if I still had 20/10 vision but...

I have an X-M1 which I usually use with the 15-45 - love it for small size. Focus and video not so good on the old one so I'm already looking up the price on this!

thanks!. am interest to hear your views on digital stabilisation. I am considering the S9 (I can get it similar price maybe 100 dollars more but dont like the lense choice) and ZF (not too much more and it has nice pancake lenses but its heavy).

I'm considering getting a camera again and looking at either the X-S20 or the X-M5. I used to have the X-T20 but sadly it got stolen. I used the X-T20 with my DJI Ronin SC which I still have and planning on keep using it with one of the camera's. I want to use it with an external mic (Sennheizer Stereo Shotgun) and some kind of SmallHD screen and I'm planning to shoot mainly Snowboarding and Automotive clips and I want to take a step into the more cinematic (travel) videos.
Which camera would you consider best for this setup and situation?

@ thanks for the reply! It sounds maybe weird but I feel like I’ve “outgrown” the GoPro’s. i used to shoot a lot on them but I don’t like the fisheye/wide-angle view and the almost infinite depth of view. I rather have a bit more narrow depth of view to have more focus on subtjects.

Fun video that is welcome from the usual early impressions videos. Now I'm wondering if one of those small camera gimbals would work well with the X-M5 for the times you want a bit more stabilization than OIS alone.

I have the Olympus E-P7. This camera is small with a MFT sensor. It’s actually incredible how Fujifilm managed to create an even SMALLER body with the larger APS-C sensor. Of course, IBIS had to be sacrificed to make it happen, but that’s understandable. The video specs are amazing for a body this small. I mean… Open Gate!? My A1 doesn’t even have it.

I was waiting for reviews on this as I’m torn between it and the E-P7. TBH, I’m edging towards the Olympus. Do you get on well with yours? I’m not into video so much.

Thanks. I want one. I’d mainly use it for video. I just hope that Fuji doesn’t throttle the production of this model, like with the X-E4 and the X100VI.

There is one more pancake lens in the 18mm f2. But that one doesn't have WR. I've been searching for something like the Ricoh Griii when I don't want to carry the Zf or Q3 so this is intriguing.

Can use the same rig for my iphone. Just swap out for the X-M5. 7" Osee caged monitor. Quad Hollyland Max wireless set. Run off of two battery banks. Shoot all day. XF-18-55mm OIS or yank it, in my pocket with a pancake.

I've watched Chris & Jordan's review and of course Fuji's official launch video, those video's only showed the silver version of the camera, you had the black version and it does look better in black. It's a nice little camera but a little expensive, however I think the big takeaway here is the open gate shutter, I think this is what can expect on Fuji's next two camera's that they teased at the launch video. A camera aimed at the more serious enthusiast , say a X-Pro4 with 40MP open gate, IBIS, traditional flip screen display, higher res screen and OVF, etc yeah I could see me trading in my X-T5 for that.

If this had a viewfinder ibis weather sealing it would destroy everything on the market in it's class. Does this have mechanical shutter?

i always enjoy your positive videos , but as soon as you said , no image stabilization , and its 2024 ? come on Fuji , i will stick with GX9 panny which auto focuses great with the no pulsing 1.4 16mm sigma , yes i know that lens is heavier than the X-M5 lol but there's always the great little 14mm 2.5 , but thanks for the review Omar .👍😊.
PS subscribed today . but yes that is a great walk around camera for photos as long as you don't need built in flash , chow

I want a successor to the Fujifilm X30.
Fixed lens with mechanical zoom, 28-75mm equivalent, constant f. 2.8, tilt screen, viewfinder, stabilized 26MP APSC sensor.
I will spend over a thousand bucks without even thinking or needing it.

It is an interesting little camera that's gonna check a lot of boxes for a lot of people.. personally I'm gonna wait and see what the X-E5 has to offer, I'd be willing to pay a little more and sacrifice a little bit of size for IBIS, ISO dial and tilty screen.. but this is tempting as a travel/walk around option
