Hey Omar! I don't often comment on videos - I'm a bit of a serial lurker. But I just wanted to stop by to say that I love your energy. Despite this being a fairly basic comparison between two lenses, I was entertained throughout. Keep doing what you're doing!
So few youtubers show the pictures they've taken they _don't_ like; I think this is so valuable as it helps with developing as a photographer. Seems like too many people keep hold of too many pictures. I keep thinking about going back to fuji as an ex pro1 shooter, but just not enthused by their later cameras.
The 35mm f/2 was my first Fuji lens because it was the one in stock. I enjoyed it but it felt a bit tight. I ended up getting the 23mm f/2 and it felt right. That is part of the reason why I enjoy the x100vI so much. I recently bought the 27mm f/2.8 pancake and enjoying that on my x-pro3. But my favorite x-mount lenses are the Viltrox 75mm and 27mm f/1.2 lenses. Bulkiness is the only con. Thank you for the video Omar and for sharing your family’s memories with us.
thx for your honest videos, Omar! If I shoot in streets I choose one thing to show in blury environment, that's why my favourite is the XF33/1.4 ... Please go on, I do like your work and in the way you show and talk about your family, I see how much you love them all 😊 greetings from 🇩🇪
I'm still very happy with the 35mm f2.0 lens on my Fujifilm X-T4. But in combination with the 16mm f2.8 it works fantastically. These lenses complement each other perfectly and make handheld photography a party.
Hi Omar, I love your shot of the man walking past the Blondie mural! Also love the self portrait on your bike :). Enjoyed the photos overall. I have never owned the 23mm. I have always preferred 28mm for all my street shots except the less frequent portrait. I sold all my Fuji gear apart from the X-E2 which I find magical. I kept my 35mm and 27mm only. I think the 35 is superior! I've been through a plethora of Fujifilm bodies but wish I had kept my X-T20. When I first got it I started watching your channel! That was back in 2018. How time flies...
Fun video, Omar! I always learn something from your videos, and I appreciate you including photos that you consider not-so-great and talking about why you don't like them.
Very entertaining video Omar... Loved the examples and your frank comments on each one. This helps me to evaluate where I'm at in my own personal photography journey!
Hi Omar! Nice to see are you rocking the original 35mm 1.4 @ 22:29 I thought you didn’t like the quirks like the sounds and slow focus etc. I still love it btw. And nice video.. So true about all the reviewers just showing the lens without showing images.
I loved my Fuji 23mm f2 and 35mm f2 lenses but have since sold them for the Voigtlander 23mm f1.2 and 35mm f1.2. Fully manual, dreamy glow at f1.2 to f2 close up again but from f2.8 sharp and contrasty. It’s a hackneyed phrase but they are very filmic too. They just feel right on my Fuji XT5.
Great to see the comparison between the two, and also to show us mere mortals that not every photo is great. I find myself preferring a 50mm equivalent focal length as find it easier/more natural to cut some things out rather than try and get everything in. But that’s just me. On a recent trip go Stockholm though I only took a standard f2.8 zoom. I set it to 50mm as default, but it was nice being able to back up or close in a bit if needed.
One time I went out doing street photography using a full frame and an 85mm. True story. But honestly the APS-C and 23mm is my weapon of choice. I like listening to you talk cuz you basically sound like the voice in my head every time I'm getting ready to leave the house... trying to figure out which lens to carry.
Thanks for video! 23f2 is my all time favorite lens. My first love in Fujifilm 😀 I didn't glue with 35f2. Replaced it with 30mm f2.8 macro. Super sharp and character full lens 👌
When I’m out wandering like that in “tourist” or street shooting mode, I just carry the X-T2 with the 35mm f/1.4 and the X70 (18mm f/2.8); then i just use whichever better captures my intent for the scene in front of me. That X70 barely weighs more than another lens and slips into side pocket on a small bag. Too bad it was never upgraded with a better battery but it still produces great photos and is super easy to carry. I prefer the 35 on APS-C and so, like you, most of my shots are at that focal length but it’s nice to have the other option.
Really enjoyed this video. Feels so casual, like talking to a friend. Helping us to decide. Now I am convinced to grab a X-T and my 33 1.4. Come and get some air little lens!
Great video Omar :) I always had the same question on which lens to bring 23 or 35 and then, at some point, regretting not bringing the other one. All of this got resolved with the 27. 27 has been working great for me
Hi Omar, Noraly started a new Turkey trip on a restored Yamaha Tenere. I'm sure you know that already. Also the new RE Himi has got more horsepower and highway legs, but with PO, you probably aren't looking for a new motorcycle.
Hi Omar, love the videos & you! Just wondering are you gonna review the Fuji 16-50mm 2.8-4.8? Kinda curious to see how it stacks up against the older kit lens and the sigma 18-50.
I bring the 23 f2 and the 35 f1.4 when I travel because I love both so much. I use then pretty evenly and they typically account for 80+% of the photos I take.
I liked this kind of comparison, especially with so many examples. I shoot a lot with my X-T3 and the xf 35mm f2, but when I want to "slow down" I put on the TTArtisan 25mm f2 manual focus. A little wider, of course, but the manual focus puts me in patience mode, almost contemplative, when shooting with it.
I'm like you, my first Fuji prime was the 35mm F2 and I love it. Some months ago I got a good deal on an X100S and took me a while to get used to the 23mm F2, struggled a bit but I'm getting the gist of it. I'll be happy the day when Fuji releases a 24-50mm F2 zoom lens lol.
Owning both Fujicrons 23 & 35mm F2’s I find myself preferring the 35 as I like the images it produces more. Also I find it more fun and relaxing to use yet I don’t know why.
I tried both, ended up keeping xf 30mm f/2.8 instead. Sure it's slower, but 30mm is just somewhat different in a good way + the focus starts are roughly 1cm from the front element, so get as close as you want. It does alright macro as well, but only on static objects as you really have to get close to get any respectable results.
Thanks Omar. I've already got the 23/2 and I'm now convinced (thanks to you) that the 35/2 is next (when my shop in Australia has another sale) Cheers and thanks. Sean.
@@michaelhall859 Thanks Michael. I've got my eye on the DD website. It's showing $559 right now but yes I've seen them for that price..... just waiting it out. Cheers.
Nice CB360 very rare here in the UK. With regards to the 23mm vs 35mm...... for me ; depends upon which mood I'm in. However my old 35mm f1.4 has that little extra..... you know what I'm talking about. I wish it was WR. But you can't have it all.
Great practical comparison. However, still love my 18-55 that lets me sit on the fence between 23 and 35. BTW, my thumb rest also fell off a few weeks ago on my XT20. A bit of superglue fixed it.
Missing my XF 35mm F2 so much, as I let it go along with a mint X-T2 to a friend. It's a desert island lens in my opinion. I LOVE the 35 f/2. It's my favorite lens. But unfortunately day-to-day life in tight spaces doesn't make it so convenient and I often default to the 23 f/2.
IDK I've always like the 23-24mm focal range on APSC, particularly if I'm doing street shooting. So for me, it would depend on what I'm doing, and ideally I'd own both (or at least some version of a 23-24mm and some version of a 35mm... maybe the cheaper 35mm f/2 XC lens which is still very good but very cheap like $200, just so I'm not going broke buying Fuji gear).
I have the 35 f2, hardly use it, don't know why. I have a 23 f1.4 LM R WR , really sharp, occasional use . Bought a Fuji 27 f2.8 R WR pancake, hardly ever off of my XS20. Love it. As UA-camr Roman Fox says, use the 23 for the scene , use the 35 for the detail. (XS20 & XT4)
Do you think for a lot of situations, f/2.8 is wide enough? Im looking to possibly get a couple 2.8 zooms, 10-18mm and 18-50mm from Sigma, along with a 56mm prime... at least thats my short list for now... someday after I get that far u will think about the 50-150 maybe...
It hits me. When I was looking for sample photos shot on ttartisan lenses, there were few on the net. Photo samples from smartphone cameras were more than that.

My favourite lens of all time is the Fuji 35mm f2 (made in Japan og these have character) and then I sold all my Fuji gear to move to the Nikon zf and miss that 35mm f2 😢
Boricua! Excellent Video! Please keep doing this type of video. This type of review is very hard to find! I will create a new account and subscribe again! 😀
Ive been a professional photographer for over 30 years and I've never owned a 35mm lens😳 I am a 28 & 50mm guy. BUT, I finally received my X100vi and the focal length is staring to grow on me😀 I think I'm still going to get the 50m conversion lens though😂
I have both the f/2 and f/1.4 versions of both the 23mm and 35mm Fujifilm lenses and use to play mental games on which to use for a one lens only walkabout. Either focal length can work in many situations and a venn diagram would have a lot of intersecting area. Still it would be paralysis by analysis deciding. Problem solved... for last year, 100% of my images were made with the Voightlander 27mm f/2 on an X-T3. Perfect compromise with the in between focal length and the ergonomics of the tiny lens with focus tab and chipped interface with the camera's manual focus aids makes this a lens that I could use forever.
I’ve done the same but with a Viltrox 27 f/1.2 on my XT5, sadly for professional reasons 😂. I do find it a bit too chunky for street photography but such a joy to use when it comes to sharpness and background blurring. 27mm it’s the way to go and in spite of me loving manual focus lenses, it’s a league I prefer to use in my xpro3 with lenses such some from TTArtisan, SMC Takumar or Helios. But my favorite manual focus lenses curiously is a Chinese brand with the model Mitakon 35mm f/0.95 II and I like to call it the Summilux of the X Mount system considering the stunning images I get from it, specifically with Acros+R profile. I got to know this lens curiously in a video of a photographer and UA-camr I admired for his devotion to Fujifilm in the past (yes Omar, I love you too) called Gajan Balan and the guy was the only reason I bought my Xpro3 with that Mitakon. Gosh what insane portraits this guy was taking. Nowadays he is one more that switched to Leica (kudos to Leica marketing).
@@ZZ.91 But those are so big... I actually have the XPro3, both those 35mm lenses, and the X100f. The X100 is on another level. It's not even close. Hopefully they are done releasing flagship hybrids and will can focus on diversifying the X100 lineup starting with a 35mm model.
It's why I live 40mm to 44 Viltrox 27 and Lieca Q43 is where it's at Thanks Omar There is some small amount of distortion in the 23 on edges of frames ...easily foxed with auto distortion tools If you don't pixel peep your lying ha ha 😂
The 35mm f2 is great- really a standpoint lens. After I sold my Fuji cameras I actually kept that lens (sold the zooms and the 23mm) in the hope they would come back with a body I could use my lens with. It’s been 3 years and it’s sitting on a shelf!

I feel you Omar. If you don't show me images on your lens review, I'm out.
Isn't anyone going to comment on what a great family Omar has?
Street photography is good with 24-40mm. Portrait and more is 50-135mm. Easy peezy.
If fuji ever releases a version of the X100 with a 35mm I'm buying it instantly.
Same here
Just go buying an X-Pro2 with the 35 1.4 ;) or f2
@@ZZ.91 But those are so big...
I actually have the XPro3, both those 35mm lenses, and the X100f. The X100 is on another level. It's not even close. Hopefully they are done releasing flagship hybrids and will can focus on diversifying the X100 lineup starting with a 35mm model.
@@samhuntress agree, in this case you can grab the 27mm. But the 35mm f2 is pretty small. A pancake version of this one could be great
Why not just buy the teleconverter for it? Boom, done!
Nice Bike!!
Or get an x100vi and simply turn the lens ring to go from 23 to 35 in an instant, both at f2!
Hey dude ... top of the screen ... sometimes it says you're shooting the 18-55 at 23 mm.
Yes. Some were. This was 43 minutes edited down. Must've cut.
these fujicrons need a refresh and some older lenses like the 18mm f2. It badly needs an mk2.
It's why I live 40mm to 44
Viltrox 27 and Lieca Q43 is where it's at
Thanks Omar
There is some small amount of distortion in the 23 on edges of frames ...easily foxed with auto distortion tools
If you don't pixel peep your lying ha ha 😂
I prefer the 18mmf2 and 27mm for street photography
The 35mm f2 is great- really a standpoint lens.
After I sold my Fuji cameras I actually kept that lens (sold the zooms and the 23mm) in the hope they would come back with a body I could use my lens with. It’s been 3 years and it’s sitting on a shelf!
Put 15-45 and feel all the beauty of street photo. yes no f2 but what are the possibilities of sharpness and weight.
35mm starts at around 15:00 if anyone wants to skip ahead
