- Der Kaiser, Franz Beckenbauer, scores on his debut with the New York Cosmos on May 29, 1977, but his Cosmos would lose to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 4-2 in a North American Soccer League match.

I was at that game and have photos from it; it was great to see Der Kaiser score in his debut. What a class act both on and off the field, just like Pele! Great times in a great era in the U.S.
That is a super awesome goal in this NASL soccer classic!!

Just now i noticed beckenbauer was once in the mls!!! I been a fan for sometime but just noticing it! I knew pelé played before retire but never knew bout beckenbauer! I know raul is now in the team! Big names, huh?

@@jlea7979 What's odd? The Cosmos did lose occasionally back then. This is merely Franz Beckenbauer's goal on his debut with the club. I'm not sure what you were expecting, exactly. People score goals.

If you took lebron james (pele) and Dwayne Wade (franz beckenbauer) und you had them play in the norwegian basketball league (norway has 0 Olympic Basket gold medals because noone plays basketball just like USA has 0 World cup medals becauuse soccer isnt so popular.) You would probably think that lebron and dwayne wade would win pretty much every game in norway.
