Awesome timing! For couple of month we in Ukraine are living with constant daily blackouts so this is helpful info. Also I want share some "knowledge" - buy everithing in advance. Everything. Powerbanks, ecoflow, candales (thick, not thin!), gas for cooking (if you have electric stove) and a fuel for your generators. You don't have to buy it all in a large though, just as much as you need. Because the main problem gonna be not shortage but price. Also contact your internet provider and ask if they have batteries on their hardware so you can acces internet even without power and work a bit on your laptop and if not - ask them to install them. I realise that this isn't ground braking advices but if you waited for a sign - this is it. Also grab some warm blankets and clothes and visit your local tourism shop and ask them about a camping gear. It`s really nice to be prepared
UPDATE: Also buy light reflecting stripes or clothing to help drivers see you when it's dark. And try to keep a few thermoses with hot water for tea or coffee. Boiling water takes a lot of gas.
P.S. Thank you all for your wonderful and kind words of support. It means A LOT to Ukraine and for me personally. Love y'all!

It's actually okay that we're looking at having rolling blackouts as a large portion of society here can't afford the energy bills seeing as they have shot up 500% recently with no sign of the costs decreasing, rather the opposite. Oh, it's all the fault of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has _nothing at all_ to do with the £100 BILLION in profits made by the big 4 energy companies over the last 9 months.
But hey, at least we have food banks, along with the newly introduced "warm banks" where we can all huddle together, located in our local libraries... except for the fact they've all been shut down after 12 years of Tory austerity, that is.
But we're all in it together over here, many will freeze to death if it's a particularly bad winter, especially if they're waiting the (now typical) 10 hours for an ambulance. However, even our Prime Minister is suffering, too, apparently; he's had to turn the temperature down on his Olympic-sized swimming pool, the poor sod.
You're spot-on about the channel, though, it's very good indeed.

My favourite battery worklight is the 'Smallrig Vibe P96L', which I nicked from my mum's studio. Repeatedly. I guess she loves it too because she got so frustrated with my thievery, she ended up getting me my own, lol! It was somewhere around $50 Aussiebucks? It's basically a miniature panel LED for fill-lighting. I whole-heartedly recommend looking into it as an option.
It's only a wee thing but it packs a heck of a punch (it's about the size and shape of an average smartphone, which also makes it very portable). Light quality is excellent! My understanding is that it's intended for filming/photography so it has a built in diffuser and adjustable colour (as in actual colour -- if you want to fill your room with purple, go for it XD), light warmth in Kelvin, brightness, etc. And on the back it's got a neat little LCD display with the battery, current brightness %, current kelvin, and an estimation of how much time it's got left at current settings before needing a charge. Got little dials for making all kind of adjustments, comes with a cute little tripod, brushed-metal body... I was surprised it was so cheap when I asked mum what she paid for it. It also won't go above 60% brightness while on charge so it won't overheat, but I found even at 60% it was brighter than other desk lights I've tried out.
Only trouble I can see with it, the included tripod's as wee as the light. So if you haven't anywhere higher than your worktop to put it, its practicability is more limited. That said, its aforementioned size and shape is a big plus, because it perfectly fits my gooseneck smartphone holder and I imagine it'd easily fit any other type of smartphone clamp as well.

Also a very inaccurate one. What Guy is saying about rolling blackouts is BS. Most recent reporting is showing that it's still unlikely to happen, and at most there is a scheme to pay people for willingly turning their power off. He's also trying to blame the current government for what is almost entirely an external issue caused by the Russian fuel embargo and war in Ukraine. He also ignores that we're so reliant on natural gas because of a left wing supported green energy mandate. Honestly this video is just weirdly political for no real reason.

Just get a Bluetti or Jackery battery unit. A lot more expensive obviously but you can plug any existing lamp into it, it'll last a long time, and you can use it for other things besides just lighting.

Maybe a portable battery and a small lamp and heating blanket would be good for the few hours with out power. For the States a Jackery system would work but would cost around the cost of a small 40k army. I don't know if there is a UK or Euro version that puts out 240v. A USB powered lamp might also work and USB battery packs are cheaper. This is an interesting topic just not for this here dark times, It could be useful if you are on vacation and don't have power. Having some kind of back up power is very useful. Also if you have to resort to candles please be careful. There are more than 1000 candle fires each year in the UK.

Fingers crossed green nuclear is not too far off, let's hope they don't bung that up. Tip if you can insulate, find every air leak and use a little spray foam. The less you loose the less you need to maintain.

Due to issues with gas supply, it's possible the national grid will have rolling blackouts between 4pm-7pm on really cold days, unless better supplies can be guaranteed. The big question though is how the tories are making money off of it, because they don't do anything if it doesn't personally enrich themselves.
